Near as I can tell, a "march" is up in the air. I agree with the idea of "putting ourselves out there" but not so certain I want quite the amount of attention a march would bring. I'm all for the media & law enforcement, but the idea of a march is a little intimidating for some reason. I suppose if it happens, it happens,I'm just conveying that I'm not sure how comfortable I am with it. There's a first time for everything, I guess.

Also, I'd love some OC pamphlets. Is there someone who's got a stockpile of them, or do I need to pull up and print my own, or (?)

Rain, rain, stay away, don't rain on my gunsthis Sunday! ;)

If anything happens, it'll be a stroll down the Kalamazoo Mall, perhaps a stop at a coffee shop or Irving's market for something to wet the whistle.

It's not like we'd go rank and file, straight lines, step-in-time. It'd be a group walk for a few blocks, and a stop here or there for something to drink.
Fourth Coast Cafe on Westnedge is excellent, locally owned, and open carry friendly.

I'm in there at least twice a week.

Be sure to PM SpringerXDacp all of their information so that he can add them to the OC friendly list in his scheduled events thread.

Generally, you print your own.

I'll have my stockpile with me, but there's only enough for people to take one or two for themselves. I have them printed and folded at Kinko's for about $.15 per copy, 100 at a time. Others print them themselves. It's really up to you.

I haven't checked, are these prices for normal paper or glossy type?

I use normal paper, black/white. I used my umich discount and got them for $.11 apiece (obviously paid myself).

Heh, I'm too damn lazy, I tried printing one up, but guessed wrong on which way to orient it in the printer and haven't tried since, thusly forgetting the right way :p

I think I'd opt for the glossy colored, but I don't know how much that would be, I should try printing it again...

Le bump.

I'll have a box of OC info cards there. HOWEVER, to avoid possible prosecution for solicitation, I will not be able to sell them there.

[P&L Code § PL219; amended 8-21-2006 by Ord. No. 1811]
A.
The following words and phrases apply to this section:

SOLICITING
Asking for money or objects of value, with the intention that the money or object be transferred at that time, and at that place. "Soliciting" shall include using the spoken, written, or printed word, bodily gestures, signs, or other means with the purpose of obtaining an immediate donation of money or other thing of value or soliciting the sale of goods or services.

B.
No person shall solicit in or on private property without first obtaining the permission from the owner or person in lawful control or possession of such property.

C.
No person shall solicit in or on a public place:

(1) While under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance;

(2) In any public transportation vehicle, such as a bus or train, nor within 20 feet of where such a vehicle takes on or releases passengers, nor within 20 feet of any bus stop;

(3) At the intermodal transit center;

(4) In any public parking lot, parking ramp, or public building, including under any open-air structure such as a canopy;

(5) Within 20 feet of a public toilet;

(6) Within 20 feet of any entrance or exit of a bank, credit union, or an automated teller machine (when an automated teller machine is located within a structure, the 20 feet shall be measured from the entrance or exit of the structure);

(7) From an operator or other occupant of a motor vehicle;

(8) By stating that funds are needed to meet a specific need, when the solicitor has the funds to meet that need, does not intend to use funds to meet that need, or does not have that need;

(9) As part of a group of two or more persons;

(10) After sunset nor before sunrise;

(11) Within 10 feet of an entrance to a building;

(12) From a child who the solicitor knows or reasonably should know is under the age of 16 years; or

(13) In an aggressive manner, which includes:

(a) Approaching or speaking to a person, or following a person before, during or after soliciting in a manner that is intended or is likely to cause a reasonable person to fear bodily harm to oneself or to another, or damage to or loss of property or otherwise be intimidated into giving money or other thing of value;
(b) Continuing to solicit from a person after the person has given a negative response to such soliciting;
(c) Intentionally touching or causing physical contact with another person without that person's consent in the course of soliciting;
(d) Intentionally blocking or interfering with the safe or free passage of a pedestrian or vehicle by any means, including causing a pedestrian or vehicle operator to take evasive action to avoid physical contact;
(e) Using violent, profane, or threatening gestures or language toward a person solicited, before, during, or after the act of solicitation;
(f) Conspicuously following the person to be solicited or who has been solicited;
(g) Speaking in a volume unreasonably loud under the circumstances; or
(h) Soliciting money from anyone who is waiting in line for entry to a building or for another purpose.

As such, I'll have a sign-up list for people who want the cards. If anyone makes a purchase in advance, I'll have them, and will refund your shipping charge (less the PayPal fee of $.74) if you specify in the NOTES or a PM that you'll be picking them up from me in person.

Rob and I are trying to find a friendly neighbor who will lend us a grill for today :)

We are bringing one of our neighbors and have invited several friends, so we'll see who shows up!

Hopefully the rain holds off until later!

We have 3pkgs of hot dog and 3pkgs of hamburger buns, and some Bratwurst and Kosher beef hotdogs to share :)

My parents are bringing BBQ pulled pork also! (for all of you goyem who don't eat Kosher lol)

Handgun-carrying advocates plan picnic
by Rex Hall Jr. | Kalamazoo Gazette
Friday June 05, 2009, 10:32 PM

KALAMAZOO -- Food and firearms will go hand in hand Sunday at Bronson Park during an afternoon picnic hosted by the pro-Second Amendment group OpenCarry.org.

The Open Carry Picnic, from 1 to 4 p.m., is meant to teach residents and raise awareness about the legal right to openly carry a handgun in Michigan, said Josh Tishhouse, a member of the national group.
The event also is in response to three incidents that, according to Tishhouse, have occurred locally in the last six weeks involving members of OpenCarry.org who were detained by either Kalamazoo or Portage police and later released.

"It's mostly to show we are a nonconfrontational group," he said. "We're just exercising a constitutional right."

The event will be similar to recent gatherings the group held previously in Ann Arbor and Hastings. The group also hosted a "meet-and-eat" event this year at Theo & Stacy's on South Westnedge Avenue.

Police don't plan to have officers at the event, but they do plan to monitor it as needed with on-duty personnel, said Capt. Brian Uridge of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

"From all the information that we have, we believe it is going to be a peaceful event," Uridge said.

It is legal to openly carry a loaded pistol in Michigan, but a permit is needed to carry a concealed weapon.

Tishhouse said between 17 and 19 members have confirmed they plan to attend the picnic, and some of them will be traveling from areas of the state that include Ann Arbor and Detroit.

The event is free and open to the general public and members of OpenCarry.org. Tishhouse said attendees are not required to openly carry a firearm to take part in the picnic.

Organizers are asking for anyone who comes to the picnic to bring a dish to pass, their own soft drinks and tableware.

Rex Hall Jr. can be reached at rhall@kalamazoogazette.com or (269) 388-7784.

What a great time! As you can tell from my post count, I'm new here. I've been to the main website before, but I didn't know there were forums.

Someone left a couple folding chairs and an umbrella, which I took home with me as I was the last local guy in attendance. If they're yours, let me know and we can arrange a time and place to get your stuff back to you.

I also had a great time. I'm glad so many people showed up, it was a lot of fun! It was nice to finally put faces to names.

What's the link to the photobucket picture(s)?
