Sunday, we had some errands to run.
First we stopped by Sam's at the Auburn Supermall/Outlet Collection to get gas and then jaunted across the parking lot to Wal Mart to get a few things. Spent a good 20 min in Wally World, they were very busy and as many many many times before there was no issues. Greeted by the door greeter, checked out by the cashier, passed on several aisles by employees.

Then back over to Sam's to pick up about 5 fresh items. Went in grabbed a cart and showed our card to the door greeter, William. William is an older heavy set guy, he had on a Washington ball cap. William, after greeting me, informed me that I could not go in with my pistol. His tone was a bit abrasive and like he fancied being able to tell someone that they couldn't do something.

I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I politely smiled and looked him in the eye and said thank you William. I let Rene go into the store and I returned to my vehicle in the parking lot. I covered my Sig with my t-shirt and re-entered the building. William again greeted me and looked at my hip. He then blurted out, "you still have it, you can't come in here with your pistol" I ignored him, not stating if I had it or not and walked to find Rene. I could here William get on the radio and frantically call for a manager....
I walked past several employees and no one said a word. It did not appear that anyone was looking for me either. I found Rene, finished our shopping, got in line and paid for our groceries. Waited for the clerk to validate our receipt (just across from William's view) and left.

Yes, I know that there is a thread here for Sam's and that we have a rebel manager (Sam's doesn't prohibit firearms, just this manager at this location) who has rested his view on the Outlet Collection rules. Although Sam's is in the same complex and most likely in an agreement with the OC, there is no direct access from the interior mall.

My approach is not always the hard line (no guns = no money) as in modern times with these big corporations a boycott is a near impossible task. Sometimes I like to carry OC until I'm discovered. Sometimes I carry CC in and OC on the way out as a way to visually normalize. Sometimes I carry CC, because concealed is concealed.

I will be writing corporate about my experience....

As I stated in my thread about Sam's club it's not a rebel manager. Corporate called me and said this location doesn't allow firearms period.
I would not be surprised to find Walter is the very same employee I dealt with.

Asked to put my "gun" in the car whilst conducting business at OBEE credit union in Lacey "as this is a ... (wait for it)...GUN FREE ZONE". Replied that no I'd be leaving and taking my business elsewhere. Contacted the head of OBEE who confirmed that they are in fact an unsafe place to be.
Anyone know of a "gun" friendly credit union round these parts . Thanks

Can't help in WA, but in WI all of the Credit Unions are GFZs and the banks are hit and miss. I used to be a member of a CU, but now use a bank because of this reason. Three banks in our little town, all allow firearms. One CU, GFZ. Good luck finding a CU that will allow OC. They probably exist, but not the norm from my observation. I've lived in 4 different places in the last 10 years and the same all four places, all WI tho.

I've gone into other obee locations without a problem. Twinstar I've used much more and never had a comment there.

Thanks I'll look into Twinstar. It was just funny when she smugly said "gun free zone" like it was a good thing.

So I work at the Auburn Dodge dealer and saw someone open carry and tried to make small talk. Didn't have much time but good to see more carry.

O'Reilly's in Puyallup

After getting back from visiting family, I discovered last night at 6pm that the water pump on my wife's minivan had gone out. I OCed while making 2 trips to the O'Reilly's on E. Main in Puyallup to get the antifreeze and RTV I needed to install the part I've had sitting around for the last year (I promise I meant to do it sooner!).

One of the clerks asked me "What do you have on your hip?", pointing to the Sig P229 I was was carrying. That led to a great discussion about 1911s (his preferred gun, and my other carry gun).

Water pump is installed and the wife is happy again. :)

It has been a while for me but I had someone tell today that I could not OC at the local city park. The gentleman had told me that he had been ticketed by Lakewood PD a few years ago for OCing (not sure if he was telling the truth or not) because the city does not allow that. I told him that the city has no such law on the books since it would violate the state preemption law (which he had never heard of before) and I have been ocing for years and have nothing but good interactions with the Lakewood police. He then told me thanks for the info and we both went on our merry way in the park.

Sounds like he was full of serial misinformation. Direct him to this thread....

If I ever see him again.
