OC in Nevada

Walmart, Home Depot, Jason's Deli, Denny's, Lowe's, Sam's Club --- ALL uneventful.

In Lowe's, saw an old dusty cowboy oc with a very chrome 1911. Would have said something to him but he was too busy chatting with the cashier. He was older than dirt, dusty, cowboy hat and boots with faded jeans that looked like a part of him. A Norman Rockwell image if I've ever seen one....except that he was carrying a 1911 and not a revolver.

Nobody ever said cowboys were dumb - just rugged.

Quoted from another site:

"The Texas Rangers and other western lawmen took to the 1911 early on, and the usual western lawman either carried a fancy Colt single action or a 1911.

Famed gun expert Elmer Keith was a working cowboy and he wrote of carrying a 1911 in a chap pocket. He said he ordered a case of .45ACP ammo every month since he was shooting the 1911 a lot.

I was born & raised in Detroit and a city boy for sure, but since living in Vegas for like the last 10 years I have occasionally come upon these old dusty cowboys. I love it. I've always loved westerns. Would have loved to have seen a revolver on his other side though just cuz that'd be awesome. He probably had a gun wrack in the pick-up. :)

New word?

Had someone wreck my pick-up once. It didn't have a gun rack in it though.

I also rack my 1911, but never my beloved Ram.

Jus' pickin' on ya :)

You can be arrested for a misdemeanor? I didnt know that.

Also to be noted, one of the workers for the event sae my girlfriend snapping the picture and commented "Yeah, it's a pretty funny sign"

Is carrying concealed without a permit a misdemeanor? My understanding was that it is written as a felony....

Happy to be wrong.

Carrying concealed without a valid, recognized permit is a "C" felony, yes.

But with a permit, concealing and/or possession can be a misdemeanor in some prohibited locations, like schools and day cares.

Because schools and child care facilites are safe due to having a sign, so no need to both having protection.

I also carried to a coworker's house for dinner. There quite a few of my subordinates there as well as one of my peers. At one point my peer turned to me and asked if I carried everywhere. I replied that I did, and told her about the laws regarding concealed carry vs open carry

^^^ I often don't post about such carry, but probably should as it may give others the confidence to do the same.

When I first started oc'ing to friend's and client's houses I was worried it'd freak 'em out, but nope. I only oc to those friend's and client's that I have a reasonable expectation that they are not bleeding heart liberals. And so far, so good. The ONLY issues have been with the occasional idiot that wants to get in a dumb argument over caliber or "are you expecting trouble here" or some other nonsense. BUT more times than not, someone will actually come up and say, "Thank you. I feel safer just knowing you're here with your gun and obviously prepared to protect us should something happen." Of which I often reply, "Of course. BUT, self defense is just that - SELF defense. The cops are the clean up crew only after the assault has happened and while I appreciate the kind words, you should count on NO ONE to protect you but YOU. You could carry too...." And then the door is open to clue them in on the legalities.

Btw, I oc'd to a new client's house that got my number from a fellow gun lover. Turned out the new client has NO guns and has never even shot a gun. But after I spent the entire day at his house doing work to help burglar-proof his house following a recent break-in, all the while with my oc, he asked about what gun he should get and so on. Maybe another Converted, hmm?

One mind at a time.....

I carried at the 2nd street Walmart in Reno tonight. I know there has been some question on whether or not it is ok to carry there because of the tribal lands and all. The hired security inside the doors stared me down as I went in and I am pretty sure their undercover security followed me around the store. (they stick out like sore thumb) I was prepared to argue the law with tribal police if they were called. Nothing happened, I bought my stuff and left.

The most I could find on the law regarding guns on tribal lands was that the Indian Colony does not allow guns but state law says they cannot deny constitutional rights.

BJ's Brewhouse on Sunday after the submachine gun match at DSRPC. Wound up finishing lunch, then staying with my friend talking about everything, through the next shift change and dinner again, breaking our old record of 8 hours by a good solid hour!

If they were ever going to have a problem with OC, you'd think they'd have gotten around to mentioning it.

The only problem we had was the first waitress kept mixing up the Hop Storm and Red Ales when she served them, but we are easygoing!

The next waiter was a former Marine and sat with us a few minutes and might start coming out to a match to shoot with us.

Hey what's the straight dope on open carrying in Clark County Parks? I mean I know that it is supposed to be legal with the State Preemptive Laws, but is the county ignoring that fact and arresting folks?

Reason I ask is there's an anti 2A protest coming up soon on County property that the folks over on Nevada Shooters are talking about crashing:
WHO: Moms Demand Action Nevada
WHEN: December 14, 2013 5:00 PM
WHERE: Hollywood Recreation Center
1650 E Hollywood Blvd
Las Vegas, NV 89142

I like the idea of crashing it oc, but don't have money for legal problems.

And for those of you concerned that I may have let the cat out of the bag about crashing the event by mentioning it here, don't worry. Closed minded anti 2A folks are NEVER looking for more information on sites like these. They like their "facts, news and info" neatly prepackaged from the mainstream media. They wouldn't be caught dead here trying to learn something as thinking can be hazardous to their cause.

I've not heard of any arrests. But that's probably because they KNOW they are in the wrong and do not want their actions to see the inside of a courtroom that will recognize state laws.

They are sure to hassle you and try to make you think they are trespassing you without really doing it officially. They will certainly create a scene and intimidate you and make everyone around think you are the bad guy.

So MAC I am correct in that it IS legal to oc on County and City property? Any idea why Metro is allowed to continue the illegal signs on the front doors of EVERY cop shop that prohibit weapons and the County's continued "rules" against firearms in County parks? I mean it's not like we don't have a gazillion lawyers in this town. Doctors do humanitarian work for free. You'd think a lawyer might.... hahaha. Sorry, I couldn't even get that out before laughing.

I wonder if I could call the Nevada Highway Patrol to defend my State rights when / if hassled by Metro. Hmmmm?
