My personal plan is less ambitious than a large public display (which I am not averse to, it just isn't my plan). My experience has shown me that much of the fear about guns is born from ignorance. Every person, even those that were anti, that I've ever taken to the range and taught has come away from the experience with a better appreciation of firearms...and they had a fun time to boot :D

With this in mind I recently took the course to become a certified Basic Pistol Instructor. At this time my plan is to use this as more of a community outreach than a profit generating venture. I'm planning on offering the class to people I know for just the cost of materials.

That's my plan.

OUTSTANDING idea Sir. Winning over hearts and minds all while educating. Doesn't get much better than that.

Well, let me explain my focus:

Legislation will be coming down the pipe, and the media is spinning a lot of gun control rhetoric. What we need to do first, I think, is focus on public opinion. We need pro gun media, if this means a huge event somewhere, fine. We need to show politicians we're still here, and we need those who may be on the fence to hear both sides, because right now the general impressionable public is pretty much only seeing the anti-gun side of things.

Proposing our own legislation is good too, and I know Phil was working on some constitutional carry legislation, but in our current political climate, this stuff won't get passed. We need support first. We need to be in the public eye. If this gets swept under the rug, then our media voice opportunity will be gone, and all people will remember seeing is the anti-gun press. This is time sensitive.

So, I'm thinking a demonstration or event or something of that nature is required.
More meetings in front of the capitol will help! I'll be there!

Thanks. It's something I've been thinking about for a while now and when the opportunity to take the instructor's class came up I jumped at it. Now I'm just waiting for the certification to come through.

I doubt they are going to go after optics, but every dollar spent strengthens us.

True and they may not go after optics but supply and demand could raise the price to something I could not afford. I look at it as a investment. It helps raise the overall value of my AR and I will never lose money on it

Whatever we do one thing is certain: we CANNOT allow them to further infringe on our Second Amendment rights! If they do attempt to legislate away our ability to own certain firearms and products, then we need to STOP them! After this legislation is passed into law it will not be rescinded like some here suggest!

Look at the NDAA and how much OUTRAGE it caused! Was it repealed? NO, it was strengthened! This is an infringement that affects ALL Americans, and not just half of them!

When is the last time Congress actually rescinded oppressive legislation? Last time I checked they just keep adding to it, not taking away!

If we allow these bans to happen then we are a nation of cowards and nothing more! We will have allowed them to gut the Second Amendment by allowing them to legislate firearms from our hands and the accessories that are needed to use them! It will NOT stop here folks, it will only get worse like it has the World over!

If we allow these bans to happen then it will only be a matter of time before they legislate ALL firearms from our possession or future possession! We will be the generation that allowed the government to destroy the Second Amendment and our way of life (with freedom and liberty); the generation that allowed the government to destroy the United States!

I don't believe people are allowing themselves to see how incredibly serious this situation is! This will be the CERTAIN death of the Second Amendment and our way of life! It will not be just a ban on certain firearms and accessories! This will be a ban on freedom and an open door to legislate away the Second Amendment!

I bet most people will talk sh!+ but when it all goes down, will just roll over and take it.

http://washingtonexaminer.com/sen.-...-buyback-of-guns/article/2516648#.UNvGpneZaSr

Let us look at how that benefited Australia:

http://www.snopes.com/crime/statistics/ausguns.asp

http://www.ncpa.org/sub/dpd/index.php?Article_ID=17847

http://dailycaller.com/2012/12/17/why-im-against-gun-control/

That buyback may be the tipping point for all of the camp-toting diehards in our country.

3 pages... has anyone made a suggestion yet?
The only thing I can think of is calling our Reps in the Government. Sorry it is all I have.

maybe if we stop the BS back biting we can come up with a plan.

There have been many useful comments, if not many suggestions. This is useful discussion I feel. Though most of us are on the same page. Our brother from KY, I'm glad you see this is a national issue, thanks for reading this post and contributing.
Bronson, I like your idea, and I'm glad you want to educate people. I may PM you later if I remember to.

But, guys, as much as it feels good to preach the truth, we're preaching to the choir here. We all know what the ideal situation is. For those who are concerned that certain areas may be out of their area of expertise.... well, if you have a suggestion, even a vague one, make it anyway. Those who are capable will take it and run with it. If nobody is an expert, than I will. The media campaign has started on the left side already.

The comment was made about people needing a wake up call... and I agree that this tragedy may be that. This is very much in the public eye right now. Strike while the iron is hot, we owe it to those kids to spin this situation in the direction of freedom.

An event somewhere, well, we need to get as many people as we can. My Dad, previously opposed to such things, agreed to participate. Maybe someone you've previously talked too would as well.
Also, I'd like to work with everyone [ Phil I'm looking your direction ] at perhaps getting some... just PSA style info/fact sheets that we can disseminate. Stick to tack boards, mail to principals, if someone wants to fund a mass mailer I don't know what that would cost, but door to door, carry them like you'd carry the OC pocket cards and just leave them f***ers everywhere! AIR DROP PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN!!! Nah I doubt anyone on here is a pilot with air drop experience but you get the idea.

We need to act small while we decide what big act to do. Anything is better than nothing at all, we gotta get rolling on this.

That Idiot Feinstein said:
Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:

Background check of owner and any transferee;
Type and serial number of the firearm;
Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration
There are other things in this plan that are real gems as well.
...If this passes, I'm going to be organizing a large fishing trip in celebration. Hopefully the weather is good on the day we choose. I would hate for there to be a terrible boating accident.

I wonder what it would cost to have a gunsmith install a "bullet button" to a Glock?

*Attempting to avoid boating accidents*

Bullet buttons will be banned also, take another look.

...but lets branch this if we want to keep talking about it and get back OT.

ETA: Check out this attachment... lol

What are bullet buttons?

Forgive my ignorance. Google was mostly useless when I looked.

Never mind. Found it.

Stupid eh?

For everyone's benefit though anyway, a Bullet Button converts a detachable mag system into a system that requires the use of a "tool" or bullet, to release the magazine, like so:

ETA: They are calling this a 'loophole', when clearly it is just a 'does exactly what the law requires'. So if we do something completely legal by the letter of the law, but they simply don't like the manner in which we follow the law, they will classify it as a 'loophole' and attempt more legislation to make it illegal. In this context, we all agree its stupid.
In a context more OC related, it seems we had the same argument about OC /w CPL in PFZs...

In any context we need to stop these emboldened legislators.
