One of the guys stated "My wife won't let me get a CCW."
<snip>.

This type of line always amuses me.

Same here. A friend of mine always tells me that his wife won't let him keep a gun in the house. She's afraid the 3YO will see it. Don't be shocked when I say they live in MD.

I usually ask him if he pays rent since he isn't an owner of the house.
Really.

I was a gun owner and user before I was a husband. If my wife had taken it upon herself after the marriage to try to put pressure on me to get rid of my guns, there would have been some real problems in the marriage because that just would not happen.

But my wife thinks of guns pretty much as I do. They're tools, much like a lawnmower or a drill.. they just have a different purpose, that's all.

Welcome to OCDO!

Not as bad as some states, but there are some things that need to change.

This thread is primarily for reporting open carry experiences inNorthern Virginia. Hunt around the Virginia forum. There is plenty of info.

After leaving the gymI stoppped by safeway to get a few itemsI forgot yesterday and ran into a neighbor.
We started chatting and he told me he was heading to the Gun Show:D

ME: :what:I didn't know you were into guns.

I invited him to OCDO range day but he has other plans but he did express interest in VCDL (he didn't know there was such a organization).

After giving him my other [shadow=red]Yellow [/shadow]gun laws card I invited him to the next meeting and asked him to visit the web site.

OC'd at almost every car dealership in Chantilly/Fairfax/Manassas with no problems.

one Chevy dealershipin Chantilly the Sales Mgr.did express some concern but didn't ask me to remove it, the salesman was cool and I turned him onto a source for Sig 225 magazines

at another luxury SUV Dealership in Chantilly the sales person was scared, she asked my wife so many questionon the test drive about my gun

the best response was from a female salesperson at a Dodge dealer in Fairfax.
it was close to closing time and I was shopping alone, I asked the sales person if my gun made her uncomfortable and if it did i would disarm(unload and put in a case but bring it)prior to the test drive, Blanche the sales personstated "no leave it on, I'd feel safer if you brought it with us."

can you guess what we bought?
a New Dodge Magnum SXT(wife refused to allow me to get the HemiV8, I have a need for speed)

11/06 originally posted in Chantilly/Centreville thread but I bought the car in Fairfax

Now THAT is a sales professional! :)

You'd look, too, ifshe hiked her skirt and said, "Not if you don't mind my .357 Mag. snubbie." :)

Seems like every story you tell, people are telling you they don't want to get shot...
You know, I just knew, when I saw Tomahawk had posted, I just knew. :)
Well, I mean hey, I'm just sayin'...

Here's one that turnsTomahawk's observationupside down! :)

I bought a lottery ticket Thurs., MegaMillions.

Today, when getting a coffee at a local convenience store, I saw the ticket tucked in my wallet and asked the clerk to check it.

He had trouble, I guess with the scanner reading the ticket's bar code, so he called the manager. As the managerheld my ticket to the scanner, the words, "$41 Million" appeared on the the green LEDdisplay promoting a different prize. Feigningmistakenexcitement I declared, "the displaysays forty-one million dollars!"

The manager turned to me, pointed to my holstered pistol and said with a smile, "Can I borrow that? I want to shoot you,and get the money."

Laughing, I said, "Whoa!I didn't even sign the back of the ticket!"

:D

Now, how's that for a twist?

I haven't OC'ed there, but you guys really must try out Chima near Tysons Mall.

It is a fantastic brazillian steakhouse. ~$45 a person but it is just amazing.

Just got back, bleary-eyed, and less than bushy-tailed from visiting the Kendo_Bunny family complex.

Stopped at Sheetz in Haymarket on the way up there, as my back teeth were floating at that point.

I pass a gentleman and his ~9 year old daughter on my (rather hurried) path to the bathroom.

Me: *exasperated sigh of relief*

The Dad: *steps into the urinal next to mine* So, uh... you got a permit for that thing?

Me: No permit needed for open carry. :D
(While thinking to myself, "Is this REALLY the time or the place to be having this conversation?")

TD: Yeah, it's just not too common to see people [open] carrying like that. What do you use it for?

Me: Target shooting. It's a nice piece of work.

TD: Yeah, I like target shooting with rifles and shotguns.

Me: Yeah, I've thought about getting a shotgun for target shooting. They seem pretty nice.

TD: Yeah, I don't know about handguns though. They only have one purpose: To kill. But, I guess if you're using them for target shooting, that's good too. *finishes up, starts to leave*

Me: Yeah, I don't go looking for trouble, but I try to be prepared.

Thankfully, I still had bladder capacity to void at this point, so I had no need to follow this.... chatty guy out of the bathroom.

No reaction from the staff, as usual.

No reaction at Giant Foods when I OC'd with Kendo_Bunny, though we did run into some girl that could be described as her 16 year old clone, complete with Vietnam-era OD Army jacket. ;)

Kendo lacks a holster for her .38 Taurus Tracker, so I had to roll it alone. :D

You were in my territory when you stopped at the Sheetz station (though I do not burn their product in my vehicles). Too bad you didn't get a chance to see what state your inquisitor was from.

" 'Scuse me while I whip this out"...

Had to be said.

Went to MicroCentre looking for a steal on Vista. Got juked out by the black Friday ad. Walked around very busy store with no glares. Walked past Fairfax County Sheriff at exit without incident.

Went to Circuit City (off 50) and Best Buy (Fair Oaks), no Wii's, no stares, no comments. People too busy looking for stuff to notice or care.

:) Either start lying about the location of the encounter, or never ever make funny comments about my encounters again. :)

OC'd while grocery shopping in Springfield. Got a compliment from a young man, maybe 19-20 yrs old, "Nice gun." His buddy seconded the opinion.
