Visited Lowe's (non-event, as usual) and Food Lion (also usually a non-event) tonight. While piling my stuff on the counter I noticed a man behind me eyeballing my GP100. He started the conversation with "Excuse me, but are you a police officer?"
"No, sir." and waited.
"Then why are you carrying a gun?"
"Because I am a responsibly armed citizen. I am armed for the purpose of defending myself and my family as needed. I also go armed as an affirmation of my right to do so according to the 2A and the NC constitution."
"Can just anyone do that?"
From there we spent several minutes talking about the why, where, and how of carrying. Seems he has just come from the IHOP and had seen someone there OCing and was curious. Meanwhile the cashier pretty much ignored us while ringing me up.
No, dern it, I did not have a flyer with me. But I did direct him to the site. I enjoyed having a worthwhile conversation with a stranger about carrying.

Took my mother out to eat at a fish house she likes. she is "uncomfortable" and against carry of a firearm of any kind. which is funny, because it is her mother, that my earliest memories of anyone carrying comes from.
anyway, no one seemed to pay attention to my OCing , and i have been in there before. As we were leaving, there was a lady seating in the lobby. as i pass ed by she asked "what are you carrying", of course i am always leery at first, but i looked at her and said " it's a Ruger, should be a 45, but this one is set on stun 9mm". she smiled and said she carried a Walther in .380. i didn't see one, and she verified she CC. her husband came over, since they were leaving too. and we all talked to each other as we went out. found out they were school teachers from Kannapolis, up to enjoy the mountains. i asked them if they were going into VA, which they said they were. so i gave them a law card from VCDL. Very nice couple. when we parted, i told my mother, "see not all gun people were crazy". she said "i know, i just think you are" :uhoh:

Went to kroger on six forks road at the heart of inside the beltline around 4:30 or so when it was pretty busy. Was doing my weekly grocery shopping with my fiancee and my 18 month old daughter, some double takes but all in all once again an uneventful experience. Raleigh is not as OC unfriendly as I thought it would be but downtown may be a different story.

Had to do some running around today, picked up a pay check for some temp work last week. Stopped at The Gun Vault in High Point, its become my gun store hangout. Went to finally order some trijicon night sights for my glock, was surprised that that had one in stock. Bought it and the gunsmith put in on for me. I had a couple leftover gift cards to Gander Mountain and Dicks Sporting Goods. Went to Gander first, stopped at the cash register to find out how much I had left on the cards. Picked up a new Gerber hatchet, flint steel sparker, and some waterproof fire starting tinder and then checked out. I talked with a few employees while there at a couple things and no one said a word. At Dicks Sporting Goods same thing, had them check to see what was left on the card, picked up a couple things and left. No one said anything there either. Good day overall.

Rode while open carry to carthage

Rode my Harley with my daughter to the Pik-N-Pig in Carthage from McGees. Open carrying all the way with my Glock. Took back roads 210 to 27 and 24 there and 15-501 to 42 back. Not one look that I noticed.

Took my 2 year old out for ice cream at Bruster's (by the paladium in High Point) while OC'ing my Kimber Tactical Custom II. Completely uneventful, as it should be!

Been there a few times, great ice cream. I spend a lot of time in the paladium area. Sadly most of the time I was there was in between classes and since I cant keep a gun in my car on school property I did not have my gun with me. Now that I have finished classes I don't spend as much time over there, but when I do I can OC now.

I escaped to the mountains 10 years ago. I count my blessings that I did everyday.

I remember shooting my friends .22 rifle in the woods/fields right off Six Forks Road past Sand Forks near North Haven neighborhood. There was an old barn there and we would shoot at cans and stuff. I think it is an apartment complex now but I haven't been back to Raleigh but once since I moved.

I was born and raised in Raleigh. I moved away to go to college a few years ago and I have no intentions on moving back. I will never live in Raleigh again. In fact, I'm pretty excited about leaving NC in a few months.

OC'ed at the bojangles off of 421 at the lewisville-Clemmons exit. OC'ed there several times before, no issues. Got my food and sat down to eat. Finished and was still hungry so I went to the counter to get another biscuit. While I was waiting on my order I heard the door open. The way this location is set up you cant see the door from the counter. As they gave me my food and I turned around to go back to the table, there was a Forsyth county Deputy Sheriff in line behind me. He never said anything to me as I went back to my table. Pretty sure he saw my gun as he was more on my right side, if he did not he is not very observant. So far the few officers I have carried around have never said anything, and that's we way it should be.

Just went shopping at Food Lion with my wife & my 3-week old son. Yes, this is the same Food Lion where I was accosted by the High Point PD last spring. Another couple with their infant and toddler (complete strangers) struck up conversation with us after the dude (who later introduced himself as Chris) commented on the gun on my hip. He too felt the urge to get a gun and a CHP upon becoming a father. I got the impression that he was unfamiliar with OC, and briefly told him about it, and told him about this site as well. He jotted down the website in his iPhone - so hopefully we'll have another High Point - Greensboro area OC'er soon :D

Hey all, been reading the fourms for a week or two now and decided to join today. I CC all the time and occasionally OC, going to start OC'ing more now that I've been reading here.

I was involved in a traffic accident this morning and it was rather chilly out so I put on my jacket prior to the Officer arriving. After he got there and I gave him my license I remembered I was carrying so I approached him with my CCW and said "I'm sorry I forgot to mention that I'm carrying" He laughed and said "No problem, good to see people exercising their rights. It's none of my business but thank you for telling me." After the accident report was finished and we were waiting for the tow truck to arrive we sat in his vehicle and talked about our handguns and what he carries while off duty.

Not a total OC encounter but all in all it was a fantastic interaction with CMPD.

You were right to tell him. They just charged a Mecklenburg corrections officer last week for failing to inform the officer that respond to his accident that he was ccing. And that is one of their own boys.

First time leo encounter yesturday. Albermarle rd Walmart.

I was shopping with a holstered Glock 19 and 2 spare mags. The 2 officers approached and the first one asked me why i was carrying. I replyed for my self protection. He then said "let me see some ID." I politely refused "I'm sorry officer, am I being investigated for a crime." The second officer stood behind me with his eye's locked on my Glock. I started to feel uncomfortable then. I then said " With all do respect officer. I would like to finish my shopping. Am I being detained or am I free to go."

They asked a couple more questions like. "Why do you carry 2 extra mags of ammo." I remanded silent. I then replied "Am i being detained officer or am I free to go." He whispered something to his partner then replied. "Your free to go".

First experience with a leo. Not so very pleasant.

Unfortunate that you had this encounter, but I believe your reponse was text book and right on. Great job.

I think you handled it well. I have been fortunate that I have not been in that kind of situation yet, but often wonder what I would say. Sounds like you have a good response for me to follow.

With "Hasan" and a few other recent incidents, I can understand LEO concern but I can also understand their apprehension to question you further.

Your demeanor and obvious knowledge of your RTKBA rights led to their decision to leave you alone. Do I think it's OK that they approached you in the first place? Yes, and no, due to ^^^.

Great job!!
