All I can say is WOW. That guy was either on Angel Dust or just to stupid to die. But at least the LEO didn't get killed, and there were no bystanders hit. I would have thought a .40 cal should have taken him down faster, wonder how many rounds hit vital organs, heart lungs etc.

From what I read in the article, they found nothing in his bloodstream. I'll add to your WOW and make it a DOUBLE WOW.

Twenty-two hits from almost any caliber in center mass should stop a normal, non-drugged-up and non-inebriated human being. I'm thinking that we still don't know why one person will drop from a small caliber hit and another will keep coming, like this guy did, after multiple hits from a fairly large caliber.

Sounds like a good research project.

One word describes this- psycology. unlike an animal, a person knows that a bullet can kill him/her. It's the reason one person goes down after being scratched with a .22lr and another enraged (for whatever reason)person takes multible shots from a heavy caliber gun before going down.

Oh no, we are still going to call you BGL - kinda like calling the biggest guy in the room "Tiny". Think of it as JohnnyB's legacy -- the one positive thing he has contributed to the forum. ;)

*And I agree with ODA226 and Citizen as to the likely "real" identity of Mr Biggles. - I wsa going to call him on it in another thread but, um, I hate to admit this, I couldn't remember the user name JohnnyB at that moment.*

So "a..Stylze" thinks I am an "sovereign individualist" who wants to abolish the federal government. This guy "Biggles" won't lift his tin foil hat high enough to actually read stuff but he thinks I am some sort of Marxist anti-Christ.

SO while this is interesting I have no idea how a person can get to this place.

NOBODY has EVER called me a liberal in my entire life.:what:

Even my conservative friends think I am to far right.:banghead:

Will January '08 go down in the history of this forum as the month of cleansing?

This guy, mrbiggles, registered shortly after I did, and we happened to post in the same thread. I had to disengage from him almost right from the beginning.

I like the fact that online forums draw in folks with different points of view. I realize that this comes at the cost of some amount of disruption to the line of discussion. However, there are definite boundaries to what is acceptable.

I had monitored this thread for awhile, but had nothing of substance to add. I forgot it for a few days then came back to find page after page of this fellow's attacks on Hawkflyer, who has alway struck me as a positive asset to the forum.

...another thread bites the dust...

Ionly vaguely rememberedthe specter of johnnybuntil it was mentioned here. Finding the marked similarities wasn't very hard.

EDIT: Sorry...after I hit "send" I noticed his updated status. Carry on guys...

Thank you Sir for your kind words, and the rest of you as well (even you deepdiver:))

I too enjoy the variety of opinions and points of view in forums like this. I agree with you that there are limits to what is acceptable. In that regard it must be recognized that it takes two to Waltz., and I must accept part of the blame for the exchange that occurred. For that I really do owe this forum and its members my heart felt apologies.

I can see now that I stepped on a land mine that I did not know was there, but that is no excuse for not cutting it off sooner. My only defense of that failure is that I took particular offense at the unfounded accusations of unconstitutional behavior in my work. This guy has no idea the lengths I have gone to in protecting all our constitutionally recognized rights from the inside, and how difficult that is. Please do not misunderstand me. I am not looking for sympathy, or blowing any "holier than thou horns" here. As Grapeshot always says "we are equals", and I am no more or lees that any of you. I am just trying to explain why I failed in this instance to shut this down sooner.

With my apologies

Well, if the forums are not a better place for that little spat then I myself feel ever so slightly enlightened (mostly by your posts, but then again I must be the only person here who enjoys Johnny's input. To me, he's kind of like a libertarian version of bear, except not quite as abrasive. :p).

So, no apology needed at this end. I enjoy a little dispute, and as childish as we all like to accuse each other of being, most attacks actually contain real information rather than name-slewing. So, color me, at the very least, not bored.

I actually learn a lot and enjoy about 95% of the site, it's the 5% that I don't need the trouble from. I do get a good laugh from Sheriff's blatant lies, but that's about it.

Ok .... Lets just let it go. The guy said he wanted to leave, and I think everyone here should just let him go in peace. Harassing after someone says they are not going to post anymore is like "back shooting" them.

The guy has made a statement here asking to be left alone. If he leaves people here alone then he should be left alone.

It does not matter if he or anyone else lurks the forum, as long as he is not causing a problem, I don't have any issue with him reading the postsand nobody else should either.

I would ask those of you who may feel offended in some way by this post to let him have the last word. I can ask that because he doesn't like me much either so I know some of those comments were made to me. If I can let it go so can the rest of you. It does not matter if he is right or wrong, let it go.

Forum,

As a registered member youcan control getting PM's, and control getting e-mail notices about both topics and PMs.

Go to the top right of your screen and click on "My Account."

On the page that opens, click on "Preferences."

You can even go "invisible" by clicking a preference that turns off your name in the "who's on-line" list on the main page, even when you are logged on.

Wow, it's amazing how the topic of discussion can waiver so much in these threads. It reminds me of being in school and standing in line and having the teacher tell the student in front something and seeing how much it's changed when it gets to the end of the line.
Anyways, I had to interject something here. This thread was originally started with the argument that the .40S&W one-shot-stops was a myth. It made me laugh. I've heard of larger caliber handguns that were touted as One-Shot-Stop calibers like the .44, the .45ACP and others of larger size. I believe the second poster had it correctly when he was talking about how the article doesn't address bullet performance as far as expansion and other important factors.
Looking at this from another viewpoint, a handgun caliber could have the reputation of One-Shot-Stops, but that reputation is going to falter depending on where the subject was hit. Take deer hunting for example: If you have either a careless hunter or someone who, for some reason mistakenly takes a gut-shot, it's not gonna matter what kind of Mambo-Magnum he was shooting with. The deer will more than likely run a ways. The same will go for any shady, criminal type. If you're shooting a .357, .40S&W, .45ACP, .454 Casull or anything else, if you don't hit him properly it's not going to stop the individual every time.
Also taking into account performance of the bullet, that's always a factor. If using a larger caliber traveling at a high speed, the bullet is not going to reach peak performance if you're right up against the subject either.

I've taught many people about defense, personal protection, caliber selection and other subjects and these are all things I tell them to take into consideration when selecting a personal protection firearm!

Oh well, I'm rambling now. Just wanted to see if I could steer this back on subject a little bit and address some thoughts I had.
Have fun y'all!!

One of the reasons I carry 9mm fmj rounds, is that they have been used in combat in war zones around the world, the lethality is beyound doubt, same as the .45acp both PROVEN killers in real world combat for consecutive decades.

I'm sure the .40 is a decent round, but it has not been combat tested long enough to justify me getting one.

Maybe the guy was the first example of modern humans evolving into some kinda supeman type animal, least he's dead now.
