Had dinner with my wife and a neighbor last night over at the Neighbor's Place and was OCing as is usual nearly everywhere I go. I stepped away from the table for a moment to hit the restroom and while in there an older gentleman noticed my sidearm and asked me if it was a Glock. I told him no, it's a Kahr and gave him a little information on it. As I turned to get a towel he noticed my spare magazine holder on the other side and said "Hey you got extras over here! You really are ready for it!" or something that effect. I smiled and said "Yup, if I'm going to have the one I may as well be plenty prepared to use it, but it's my hope I go to my dying day having never had to." With that we parted company and I went back to the table. Occasionally I get questions regarding what kind of sidearm I've got, but since I had this in mind I figured I'd report it. Otherwise no problems OCing, even in some new places including Chestnut Hill Hardware and Chestnut Hill Bakery and no problem at all in any of the old ones.

Reminds me of Leslie Nielsen in the Naked Gun movie when 'Frank' forgets to turn off his lapel microphone.....

The wife and I went down to the VCDL meeting in Roanoke on Saturday and then decided we were going to do lunch at Joe's Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant ( http://joespizzasml.com ) down by Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta. The restaurant was recommended to us by an acquaintance whose husband runs the place, so we figured we'd give it a try since we were already out and about. Although we missed the lunch buffet, the dinners we ordered off of the menu were tasty enough we'll be going back as time permits on the weekends. The wife and I both OCed and had no issue at all, and frankly didn't expect one either.

Last weekend we ended up back at O'Kelly's Deli at Wards Rd & Candlers Mountain Rd for lunch after I locked myself out of the house and had to retrieve a key from my wife at work. I OCed as usual and had no problem there either. Other than these couple of newish spots we've just been hitting up the same ol' spots as usual and of course have no issue OCing or much to report otherwise

Not much to report that's new in the Lynchburg area, other than some new spots and re-visit to some old spots. OCed without issue at the new Salvation Army Thrift Store on Fort Avenue, which is a new spot for me. We've also been to the new La Caretta on Timberlake, but La Caretta is always friendly at all of the locations. We headed back to Joe's Pizza & Italian Restaurant in Moneta on Saturday and OCed without issue again (this is another newish spot for us). Some old spots we've re-visited recently were Benjamin's Restaurant and Advance Auto. Like always, no issues anywhere, which is just as expected. Other than that we've stuck to many of the same ol' spots like Kroger, Texas Roadhouse, Vinny's, Robin-Alexander's, Arosto, and various others.

Open Carried all weekend long during my holiday travels around Lynchburg.

Went to lunch with the wife to Al Ryan Mediterranean Cuisine downtown. Very friendly.

The hill city continues to be a wonderful place to open carry. :)

Went to Burger King on Timberlake yesterday for dinner and was stopped by a mother and her two kids. She was very polite and just wanted some education on open carry. Her children were nice and wanted to know the model of gun I was carrying.

Very positive interaction.

BK or McD?

I get the same questions from the police when I eat at McDonalds on Old Forest Rd.

The wife and I were out looking for plants at the Lowe's up in Madison Heights yesterday and I noticed an older gentleman (maybe in his 70s) inside the store a carrying a smallish revolver in a nice leather holster. I didn't get the chance to say hello due to the flow of traffic in the store, but it was nice to see one of the older generation OCing as well!

In the past week we've tried out Andy Chang's China Grill, where China Royal used to be in Forest. The first time (Sunday afternoon) I was carrying concealed just because I didn't feel like changing out holsters, but I OCed when we went back on Thursday and there was no issue at all. The food was quite tasty and they seem to offer some other offerings than you might see at take-out or buffet Chinese restaurants. If you read Chinese (don't know exactly which language) they even have menus for you.

I think we ate there some time in the winter and it was not posted then. I hope you have notified the management of your disappointment.

What did the notification say? I've seen a small typed paper before, but never noted any sidearm prohibitions.

This past week the wifester and I hit up many of the same spots we usually go, and a few newish ones. As mentioned before we've now gone to Andy Chang's a couple more times where we continue to get good food and no OC issues. Although we usually go to the La Caretta on Wards Ferry Rd, we've taken to going to the new one on Timberlake where we've had no issues with OC either. Of course many of our regular spots like Texas Roadhouse, Vinny's, Robin-Alexander, La Taqueria Mexican Grill, Monte Carlo Italian, Blue Orchid Thai and others remain friendly with good foods.

This weekend we again went down to Homestead Creamery and had lunch. After leaving there we dropped by Lowe's in Rocky Mount to see what different selection it had versus our local stores. While there we chit chatted a bit about carry guns with one of the guys in outdoor tools. The guy normally carried a Glock, but wanted my opinion on Kahrs seeing that's what I usually carry. We left Lowe's and then headed on down to Roanoke where we ended up having dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse, where we ran into a gal who used to take care of us at Vinny's in Lynchburg. She was glad to see us since she had some firearm and carrying questions and wanted more info on carrying openly. She apparently has a revolver she wants to carry, but needed some more information and had no desire to get a permit to carry concealed. We happily filled her in and gave her a VCDL carry card and made sure she could reach us again later. Finally we stopped at Target and of course had no issue there either. All in all, a pretty good week and weekend.

Clueless.

I just received an e-mail invitation for a Friends of NRA banquet to be held in August at one of the few places in Lynchburg (Phase 2) where carry is actually forbidden by the proprietors! I'm not exactly sure who set this up and picked the location, but when you hear people state that the NRA is clueless, the choice of a "no-guns" facility for a NRA support banquet sure doesn't do anything to counter these complaints.

I sent a reply to the organizer to see what gives. If I get a reply I'll fill y'all in.

If that were not so sad, it would be funny.
