Open Carrying in California
I'm going to share a story as to why I moved from California.
This happened just before the 4th of July many years back.
A group of neighbors decided to have a get together for the 4th of July, and we decided to put on a mock shootout with black powder firearms.
We notified the sheriffs office as to our plans.
That in mind I will now share my story.
It was on a Saturday morning about 9 am. I went with a cup of coffee in my hand to my next door neighbors house to talk about the upcoming plans.
I had my 36 caliber pistol in the holster and unloaded, and my coffee cup in my hand.
I was standing there talking to my neighbor named Don when both of us turned our heads because we could hear a car coming down the road, and the carburetor was screaming and saying hey I am at full throttle.
We stand there and watch this Sheriff car go past, and slam on the brakes and slide around in a half circle.
One Sheriff jumps out and goes down on his knees on the passenger side behind the door, and has a colt Mark III trooper 357 pointed at me and cocked with his finger on the trigger.
The other exits on the drivers side, and walks over to me, and says --- Very carefully remove the gun from the holster ---
Now I am watching this guy pointing his 357 at me and I use my thumb, and first finger and I took the gun out touching only the end of the grips and had the barrel pointing to the ground.
I handed it to the officer and the other guy put his gun away.
Now you won't believe what he did! -- He pointed the barrel at his face and cocked the hammer!
He looks at me and says what is it. I told him --- if you will return it I will explain it and share anything he wants to know about it.
So now he hand it to me by the butt first, and still cocked and pointing at his chest.
I knocked out the wedge, removed the barrel, and laid the cylinder and all the parts on the fence next to me and explained all I could about it.
Now he proceeds to go into his macho mode telling me it is against the law to have an unloaded gun in the holster in the county.
That didn't go to well, so I corrected his lack of knowledge of the law
Well he was upset, and got in his car, and picked up the microphone and told them ---- Big Gun Fight Ha Ha --- and then they left.
So this is just one of the reasons that I have left Commiefornia.
I am now a concealed weapon instructor in Oklahoma.
I am for Open Carry here, I have always been for open carry, and having a badge does not impress me in anyway.
Sure there are good cops, and bad ones. However Bully cops can bite my butt.
I respect the law, and I respect those that enforce it proper. I don't have any respect for those that abuse others for their personal gratifications.
