Evil and I were out to the pit yesterday.

We stopped at Rally's in Lapeer. Evil went in to get food, and had an interesting conversation with a heavy cannon gunner from WWII or Korea.

I stayed in the parking lot to crack open a Thai coconut I never thought I'd find in this state, but did over in Rochester. A car full of 4 locals was right next to where we parked. They were very interested in the coconut I had, and it must have looked strange, me with my .45 on my hip, getting out of the car and slamming the coconut on the pavement, then resorting to stomping on it to crack the shell, finally digging in with a small pocket knife since I didn't have a fork.

I ended up giving them half of it, and we had a big conversation about how coconuts aren't supposed to be gross, they're supposed to be delicious and soft, but people in the midwest don't generally know that, and so we mostly only see hard and nasty brown ones. Never during this conversation did anyone even bat an eye at my gun, or evil's when he came back out.

The nice thing was that we were able to go from the back area in our favorite secluded shooting spot, over to the actual pit for some long range shooting when it started raining. Everyone else was afraid of the rain, whereas we had rain gear and a .22/45 we don't care about beating on.

Went to Granddaughter's graduation in New Buffalo this weekend and OC'd in several places. Talked to a table full of veterans having their morning coffee in McDonalds. Good men every one.

No problems anywhere including places stopped at during the trip down and during the trip back.

Oh.... my Camaro got 28.9 mpg on the way home.... nearly all of it on the freeway at ... ummm... well.... I'll just say.. freeway speeds.

2nd reaction with AAPD

Well s###, had the recorder going and left it at the table. I have OC'd (W/CPL) in Ann Arbor schools, before tonight. She said nothing at the teacher conference a couple weeks ago. Tonight was an awards dinner, I hardly had a chance to get a bite in my mouth. Then a hand on the shoulder, the school officer wanted to "talk" about it, in her office. I put my hands above my head, cause I was armed and she was not, And bring down my heart rate. Well after she talked to the Sgt in charge, I talked to the Sgt, I pointed out the legal update 86. Apparently after the sgt agreed with me... she was not happy,

Follow through with the schools if need be. The Waterford thing with me started in a similar manner.

OCed today at Petes Coney II with Yance while meeting with Representative Eileen Kowall. Went well, but some lady came up to me, asking if I thought carrying a gun was funny or something. When I explained that there wasnt anything at all funny about carrying a gun, she claimed that she supported it, and that her husband carried, so she knew about it. The conversation was odd, to say the least, its like she was coming at me, and when I held my position, she started backpedaling. Even Yance found it odd, he tried to give her a trifold, but she refused it, saying she already knew about carry.

Yance and I hung out in the lot for an hour or so, just BSing, he's a 1st class guy.

Thanks for the kind words.

I agree, the conversation with that lady was odd, all in all I guess she supported it.

We did speak with another woman that was there to speak with Rep. Kowall while she was away from the table, she didnt understand why someone would need to carry a gun into a store or a restaurant and she stated she had a fear of guns which was only increased after receiving some firearm training. She said its because she realized the ability someone has to take a life. I explained it is a huge responsibility, she stated she was weary about other people carrying because she doesnt know what the state requires for someone to qualify to buy a gun and she is afraid that some nut will end up with one. Stainless mentioned that for the same reason she is afraid of some nut getting a gun is the same reason we carry. Which seemed to make her stop and think.

I also explained several situations where in these locations (stores and restaurants) people have been killed, beaten, stabbed, robbed, mugged, all these places where someone thought "this could never happen here" and I told her thats exactly where I want a gun. In the end I think between Stainless and I talking to her she kind of opened her mind a little more, I'm sure we left her with a lot to think about from the gun carriers side of the table. Its a lot different for someone who is talking to individuals who are armed and carry regularly say they carry for the same reasons she is afraid of people with guns. She however was very polite and pleasant to talk to and she didnt seem scared or get up and run from the table.

The restaurant we were in was very busy but we had absolutely no problems. Like Stainless said we were standing outside chatting for a while after speaking to Rep. Kowall, while doing so a kid that works at the restaurant was walking the trash out and asked if we were LEO to which I replied "nope just exercising our rights" the kid just replied with "cool" and a very approving look.

It was a good day.

Stainless is a pretty stand up guy himself and I had good time chatting with him.

So you weren't told to leave? How long was the discussion with the Sgt?

10 min's or so on the phone, I am guessing that he found the legal update 86/ No, I was not asked to leave. She was creeping in the corner and would go across the room from time to time. I would call it Stewing.

Finish out the night. To add to my earlier post there was a statement "That is unnecessary", I replied "I hope it never is"

"That is unnecessary"

"Why, because we have you here to protect us? That's just great, I'm sure my family feels much safer now that you're in here dealing with a law abiding person instead of being out there protecting everybody. You've not only removed me from a position where I can protect them but also yourself....great move Kojak."

Recently OC'd into a couple new places (for me, at least) - Jimmy John's and Schlotzsky's Deli, both in Westnedge in Portage. At Jimmy John's the fellow behind the counter asked "Are you some kind of under-cover cop or something?" I chuckled (at the ignorance of the question) and replied in the negative. He then asked "So, you just like carrying a pistol around?" So I gave him a simple "Yep, pretty much", and left it at that. As for the ignorance of the question, I wouldn't think an "under cover" LEO would be OCing, for one, and secondly, I was wearing a black t-shirt with big bold white lettering that read Springfield Armory: The first name in American Firearms and big graphics on the back of the shirt..... yeah, real low-key LOL

Then at Schlotzsky's, no comments or anything, even with it being obviously seen by the employees and patrons.

Just OC'd (again) at my 5/3 bank. No one behind the counter batted an eye, as usual, but I must say - it's always entertaining to watch the facial expressions of incoming customers upon seeing an armed civi in a bank lobby. Eyes bulge and, on occasion, jaws drop. Priceless.

Thanx fellers, ya I've been doin nothin but readin, and when I bought this pistol a yr. ago I down loaded the mich.gov-gun laws "pdf" file and have read it over & over & over & over and I have good fundamental understanding of what I can and can't do and the law overall, but I don't have a camcorder, I have a digital camera that I think has a video mode but I'm tooo stupid to dig out the manual on it,-mental note- (add it to the list of chores), but ya, it's something I need to do, oh, and a sorry if this is all OT(off topic). So fer now I'll just leave ya'll to it and just keep readin bunches more. RH

I, too, live in a manufactured home community and have OC'd for the past two weeks after I was assaulted while walking my dog. I was informed by the manager today that it was not permissible to OC or carry w/ a CPL since it is "private" property. Is this true or is it BS?
