OC'd again today to Superior Gun and Pawn in Hampton (looking for 10mm range ammunition, $41.00 for a box of 50 OUCH, guess I'll have to order in bulk :( ), Wal Mart again, and 7-11. Still no negative experiences, no comments or questions this time either. I had originally OC'd with the idea in mind that I wouldn't make it a habit and stick to CCW unless clothing made it irrelevant, but I think I may stick to it now because it has been going well, and frankly it is much more comfortable than having a gun inside of my waist band. I also really like the Blackhawk holster that I use, and I have much more faith in it than the El Cheapo IWB holster I have. Are there any events coming soon near the Hampton area, like an OC dinner or something? I looked through the forum and didn't see any but I could have missed it. Willing to drive an hour or so.

Usually when a dinner is scheduled an administrator will make it a sticky at the top of the page. I don't know of any dinner locally right now but anyone can schedule one.

OC-ed to ACT, Food Lion, Exxon. No issues.

I found this great video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ln56Zp22res

Walmart OC encounter

So I stopped at Walmart about 30 mins ago to pick up some ammo for the range 2morow and when I walked up to the sportings goods counter there. So I walked down to the electronics section to ask for some help and I meet these 2 nice guys who are also OC'ing and talked guns with them for about 20 mins or so. Most likely the best time I have had a Walmart .

Got my XD 4 days ago, since then I have OC'ed to Walmart, Harris teeter, dick's sporting goods, lynnhaven shooting range, the armory, 7-11, wawa, Panera, k mart, and several other places.

OC'd yesterday to walmart on P.Anne, GI Joes Military Surplus, and Bass Pro Shops over in Hampton without incident. I did encounter another OCer, the man behind the counter had a 1911 Springfield on his hip. Some big boned little dude had a double take:shocker: at Bass Pro but didn't make a scene.

Haha, might want to re-read the title of this thread, Airframer :)

While working today at Dicks Sporting Goods I saw a gentleman in my department, "Lodge" (the place with guns :) ), and noticed he was open carrying what looked like one of the slim Taurus 9mm or .40 pistols... might have been a S&W...didnt gawk at it.

Anyways, as I walked past him, I stopped and thanked him for open carrying and that we need more people doing that these days.

We had a small conversation about it and he went on his way. I then realized I forgot to tell him about OCDO, so I stalked the aisles until I found him and told him about the site. I hope he comes in!

Anyways... I wasn't OC'ing.......but I cannot say if I was carrying or not ;)

hey, question for you...
i recently noticed at my local dick's in c'ville, that there's a fairly small posted sign on the inner set of entry doors, near the push handles, that says something to the effect of "all firearms must be checked at the customer service desk". is that current policy or an outdated sign? what's meant by 'checked'? i'm sure i've oc'ed in there before noticing the sign, but no one said anything to me.

thanks!

For our store, and I would ASSume that means all, the firearms that have to be checked are the ones that are being serviced (bore-sighted, scope mounted, etc). Carry firearms are not in that category.

interesting, thanks. does your store have a similar sign?
i don't seem to recall any specificity on the sign, but i'm going to go look at it closely tomorrow.

I dont think our store has that sign, but we do have a "door greeter" who is in charge of that sort of thing...to make sure it gets taken care of.

I believe the whole reason behind that policy is to make sure that any firearm that is to be handled and fondled gets a trigger lock (provided at customer service) after being verified that it is unloaded. That way little timmy doesnt catch a .223 football with his face as he is walking past the Lodge dept. with his parents.

our store recently (christmas of 2011) was allowed EBR's (evil black rifles) and since then we have had an increasingly larger inflow of EBR's and EBR accessories including Federal 5.56 cans of 420 rds for 170 or so. We also carry American Eagle .223, remington and wolf (barf)

By the way... our store is very 2a friendly for responsible owners.

Planning on going for a hike this weekend, well more of a ruck really, probably around 10 miles with a heavy pack and as usual I will be openly carrying my Glock 20 SF. The ruck is going to take place in a state park. I just want to confirm that I should be good to go? From what I've been reading the ban on firearms in Virginia state parks was struck down, so I assume I'll be within the law?

A bit off topic for this thread which is for our past experiences OCing. Nevertheless, quick answer - yes carry is legal in state parks subject to the usual, standard exceptions.

OC Dinner Idea, Pasta Bowl Va Beach

Hello All,

Its been a awhile since I've chimed in. I'm wondering if there is a Hampton Roads OC dinner in the works for this or next month. I'd like to recommend the Pasta Bowl on Independence Avenue in Va Beach, south of Towne Center. It's a family-owned Italian place that serves great food and I've had the chance to get to know the owners. It's a newish place and I highly recommend it for a visit in general but I think this may be a good opportunity to patronize an up an coming local restaurant. I will feel out to see if they'd be open to having a group of us visit their establishment so stay tuned. Thoughts?

Welcome back, just post it in Virginia, a mod will sticky it. Best to plan it out a week or two so people can see it. You will be here forever trying to pick a date and time. Just set one yourself in a week advance or two and you should have a good turn out. We just had a dinner a few weeks ago and had 20+.
