I've been OCing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Noland Trail where I do my 5 mile ruck three times a week. I have been getting a lot of weird looks but I still haven't had anyone approach me. Last Friday, my paranoia buttons got pushed. I was on the last quarter mile of the trail, which is actually a sidwalk going by some part of the museum or something, and a group of very well dressed people walked out and saw me. I guess I can see how it might give them a pause, an extremely sweaty dude in a brown shirt and brown TAC pants with a MOLLE pack on my back and a G20 SF on my hip. Probably not the usual sight for the trail. Anyway, back to what happened. The individuals gave me a very "concerned" look, I could tell they were uncomfortable, and then all of them went back inside. I just smiled and waved, and carried on towards my car. About two minues after I go to my car two police vehicles (didn't see the city), rolled up slowly on the road that runs by the parking lot I was in, and it was quite obvious they were looking for someone or something. I had already changed shirts and was behind my car door so they couldn't see my firearm. Made me a bit paranoid though. Those individuals' behavior when they saw my gun and the police creeping up about 10 minutes later, I wonder if someone called LE and said there was a crazy person walking around with a gun?

It may explain why "they" were looking for you.

For anyone who's been living under a rock, I've been building a new house and spending an inordinate amount of time at home improvement stores. Regularly between the Lowes on Virginia Beach Blvd (#1546) and Holland Road (#86) and the Home Depot at Red Mill Commons (#4643) and Salem Crossing (#4626) I have been to collect various sundry items and products to complete this project.

To date I have had nary a problem in either of these four locations, so bully on them all.

Anyhow, last weekend I was purchasing some electronics items to finish the installation of my home entertainment console at the Salem Crossing (Princess Anne Rd) location of Home Depot and ran into a gentleman wearing a VCDL polo. I made eye contact, pointed at the logo and gave him a thumbs up. He came over briefly and asked me what I was carrying (since I was OC, of course). I did not recognize that he was carrying so he either was not or he was successfully concealing. Either way, if that was you, "Hello" again. Always good to see other pro-liberty folk about.

As a corollary, I lost my orange "GSL" magnet from the tailgate of my pickup probably three months ago. Just fell off. When I got to my new house I was out front installing the number placards on my mailbox and noticed a dark grey circle laying in the grass just near the fire hydrant across the street where I had parked regularly before the driveway was installed. I don't know if I'd never seen it before or just never bothered to investigate it, but something told me to take a closer look today.

Wouldn't you know it, tt was my old "GSL" magnet, quite faded but still legible albeit somewhat worse for wear! So I picked it up, dusted it off and put it back in its proper place alongside my VCDL magnet on the tailgate. Huzzah.

Everyone have a great day.

Well, thanks for the heads up. To be honest I've been there four times now and have never seen a sign stating that I can't carry a firearm. I'll look for it again and leave the gun in the car when I go on Friday, but if I don't see any signs I'm going to carry. If I do see a sign I'll find somewhere else to do my thing.

EDIT: A quick check of their website confirmed what you're saying. I probably won't even waste my time now. If it's on their website, pretty obvious what the rule is regardless of whether there's a sign on the premises or not. Disappointing, but it looks like I'll be finding somewhere else to ruck.

"Lake and Park Rules for Your Safety and Convenience" - What part of not allowing law abiding citizens to carry a firearm legally guarantees my safety? What a joke.

That's a good point. In my head, I had pictured leaving it in the center console while I walked the 50 feet from my car to the start of the trail in order to view the sign. But you are right, really shouldn't be making little exceptions to the basic rules. That's like saying it's cool to keep my finger on the trigger because I know I won't be exerting enough pressure to engage the striker. My bad for being dumb. I just sent an email to administration@marinersmuseum.org asking for clarification on the policy and if there are any signs in plain view, and that I would not be patronizing their trail anymore (as if they care).

I had two OCers walk into my autoz0ne today. They were welcomed. My district manager was in today, saw em and heard our conversation, did not say anything. We talked briefly. Wrote down the web site and suggested they hop on-board. They hadn't heard of the site before.

i recieved a call back from Waffle House corporate. WH policy is NO FIREARMS unless you are a police officer in uniform.
the lady i spoke with was aware of the recent murder, and explained to me that the incident occoured outside thier restaraunt, so i am safe to carry INSIDE of thier stores.
i tried to keep it polite and said that i will forever miss the all star special.

my wife, father and I all OC'd today and stopped at the VA diner and enjoyed a meal. i caught a few long glances and made fleeting eye contact with others.

last week i met a guy from jersy in the checkout line at home depot. he politley asked me if i was a cop, and we spoke for a bit. gave him one of Ed's OC cards, and welcomed him to carry in VA.

Hassled at Walmart

So there I was, getting some baby wipes and some 7.62x39 ammo from the Walmart on Lynnhaven (Phoenix Drive location) while OCing my 9mm as I normally do. I got the wipes and proceeded to sporting goods (i know from getting ammo @ a plethora of different walmarts hundreds of times before, you pay at the sporting goods counter for it) and asked the guy for a few boxes of my ammo of choice and he immediately notified me that he couldn't sell me ammo while i was carrying. I immediately requested his supervisor and for a pen & paper so I could record names for corporate. He said the same incident occurred earlier today and the man that was OC'ing was allowed to purchase ammo but was "escorted out by a manager." I recorded his name and asked him if this was a new policy and if I could see it in writing and his manager arrived shortly thereafter. I listened to her fabricated policy and asked for her to spell her last name so I got it right for corporate when I talked with them about singling me out for exercising my right they promote. She said "I can't give that to you, just tell them {insert name here} assistant manager told you this." I told her that I didn't appreciate it being discriminated against and she quickly changed her tone, blamed the now "misunderstanding" on the new guy and then told me I'd be allowed to purchase the ammo. I asked if i'd be escorted out as a result, "No sir, he's new here and just getting the hang of it." I proudly got my baby wipes and 7.62x39 rounds and headed out the door without further incident. Still haven't seen it in writing. I kept my cool and was never asked to leave.

To the poor guy that allowed walmart sporting goods to create rules that singled you out, take names next time and they will treat you like an adult.

you have not seen it in writing and you will not see it in writing. It is not one of their policies.

OC'd at Smithfield Olden Days with a few other carriers (Nilla and Co.). I was asked a few separate times if I was a police officer (not uncommon for me) and I just responded with "nope, just an American Citizen". They all smiled and said they had no issue with that. LOTS of cool cars there, btw.

Later that evening carried at a car cruise in at the Hardee's on Jefferson in Newport News. Grabbed a burger inside and walked around a bit. No issues there either. More cool cars, too.

Good encounter

OC'd around here as usual today and while coming out of the walmart on p. anne, a really big Samoan dude approached me in the parking lot as I was putting the beer, burlap, and charcoal in my trunk. Upon initial glance, I was uncertain/alarmed by his possible intentions but on second thought, i was prepared for any intentions. As he approached, i stood alert, and he opened conversation with "Hey buddy, I got a question for you." I knew this was going to be about gun rights so i welcomed the conversation with a smile. He said he had seen like 3 people carrying in walmart and was curious because he was interested in carrying but unaware of the law. These situations I savor and welcome. I proudly informed him of the legalities of OC in public and handed him the sticky flyer from my glove box and referred him to OCDO for further discussion and questions.

i hope to see you here big Samoan dude but I'd rather see you armed in public even more!

Oh dear, were you OC'ing the AK pistol again? .

LOL! I looked back 12 pages of posts and didn't find it but I'm not the guy with the Draco pistol! (dude drove a bike if i remember correcty?) Although I support the justification of its legal to have it, I just can't fathom any other purpose for the Draco Pistol. I bought a full sized WASR-10 a couple months back, although I say "full size," the butt stock feels like it was designed for a 7 year old/oompa loompa. Going to replace it with an extendable Tapco when my piggy bank swells a little more. Only reason I could use for the wife was zombie defense/target shooting. Good luck with your miss's if you want one. Ammo is cheap.

Granted the practical uses of a AK or AR pistol may be limited but the capability and size are great factors. (with my CHP I "can" also conceal my draco pistol if I choose as well as legally keep it loaded in a car) :)

Having a 30 round magazine of a rifle round in a small package gives me warm fuzzies if and when the chit hits the fhannn. :) It makes a good truck gun and is a hoot to shoot. :)

I have yet to OC it anyplace other than at the range. My personal opinion is that if you OC a AK/AR pistol you are "trying" to send a message that may or may not be appropriate. After all it is scary looking!!!!! Oh my!

I love the concept and our rights, just seems to inflame the anti's stance when we are legally more armed than many foreign militaries can afford/are allowed to be. I fully support our rights, I just don't want to give the anti's any ammo they didn't pay for.

Thanks for the clarifications Grapeshot, and thank you for the stretch of rights DJEEPER! I thank you both for fighting for our unrestricted God-given right to bear arms. You can count on me to exercise and fight for our rights even after its cool online/tv.

I will stand for all firearm rights...even if some deem them as controversial. It....is.....my duty...... *pose*

haha :p
