I just sent an email to Dicks Corporate asking what their firearms policy is for customers. More to follow....

DICK'S "weapons policy" STINKS!

Their prices weren't that great anyway. They just lost a customer.

Been OCing a lot lately as I've been getting out and about more. Late evening walks on the beach in Yorktown, WalMart (Yorkown and Newport News), Target, Taco Bell (All locations in Yorktown/Newport News AOR), Farm Fresh, Food Lion, County Grill, The Marksman, Luigi's, McDonalds (multiple locations), Chick-Fil-A, Wendys, Dicks (Before I heard about the latest unpleasantness) and probably more places I can't recall. No Funny looks or Fuzzy Eyeballs that I noticed or cared about.

Newport News Public Library... Got some dirty looks from fellow patrons, but no MWAG calls that I know of at the Main St. Branch, but never a problem at the Grissom Branch anymore (since my Educational Experiences last year with them). I haven't been wearing my recorder lately. I better get back in the habit in the event something happens.

I can tell you that someone is not understanding what the true inquiry is with regards to this matter.

Never been an issue in my store, none of the managers have any issues with this.

I agree, I have OC-ed at Dicks several times and wonder if it is the phrasing of the question that is causing the answer.

Can you email them back and ask specifically if they are willing to follow VA State Law and allow customers to OC holstered handguns as they do everywhere else and specifically mention that you are not referring to guns being brought in for other reasons?

to clarify what i saw at the dick's in c'ville yesterday...
there is no "firearms prohibited" sign on the doors, only the sign i uploaded in post #5980 with the curious "check in" verbiage.

I replied in the other thread, but I'll answer here too.... in my original inquiry I specifically asked about the 'lawful carrying of firearms'... I don't see how that could have been misunderstood.

I did reply back to them again and requested that my question be forwarded up to a manager for resolution. Perhaps the Customer Service guy just got it wrong??

OC'd today at the Noland trail for a 5 1/2 mile ruck. I swear, I got more weird/dirty looks on that trail than I have gotten combined out in town. Stopped at Farm Fresh on the way back and got nothing bad, as usual.

bad experience at waffle house on North Hampton Blvd in norfolk

so i had the family allready seated and looking at the menu.
i stood up for a minute and the store manager, John Paul, spotted my piece and informed me that i could not carry in the restaraunt, unless i was a police officer in uniform.
i asked him if it was the store policy, and he said yes. i asked him if i could see it in writing, and he driected me to the one plastered on the large windows.
i read it from both sides for a total of three times and i didn't see it reference firearms in any way.

i turned around just as he was hanging up the phone with the general manager.
he re-affirmed that the restaraunt policy was 'no firearms unless you are a police officer in uniform'. i asked to speak with the general manager, and he replied that they cannot give out his #.

i swore to him that i'd never return to waffle house. he was fine with that.

i'll call the hotline and see if i can get connetcted to the general/district manager. store # 1245

Has any body else have experineced this at a local Waffle House?
i swear i've been to the chesapeake waffle house off Volvo Pkwy at least a dozen times last year, and never been booted out ....

yes, it is actually in VB. my mistake
i called customer relations today. i'm witing on a call back from the general manager.

I think that you actually mean Northampton Blvd in Virginia Beach.

I myself don't go there so can't tell you....but the emphasis is on NOT going there. A couple of weeks ago they had a murder there, knifing and as far as I know that is still an open case. But there have been a lot of problems in that immediate area, and there have been incidents at the nearby truck stop. I go to FedEx across the street all the time and when I go I ALWAYS OC and prefer to not go there after dark.

I think there was just a murder at that place.

http://www.wvec.com/my-city/vabeach/Suspect-in-Waffle-House-stabbing-identified-157517605.html

They say 29-year-old Terrence D. Henderson, who last lived in Norfolk, killed 23-year-old Leon L. Hymons II. Hymans was on the ground in the parking lot of the Waffle House on Northampton Blvd. around 3:00 a.m.
^ June time frame.

I suggest they get a big, or dozen post cards about the recent murder. Prehaps they need to chance policy.

I have been OC-ing around a bit to many usual places. Today I went to the Surfrider for dinner no issues.

The last couple days Exxon, Food Lion, Shell, Kroger, Japan Samurai.

I've been OCing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Noland Trail where I do my 5 mile ruck three times a week. I have been getting a lot of weird looks but I still haven't had anyone approach me. Last Friday, my paranoia buttons got pushed. I was on the last quarter mile of the trail, which is actually a sidwalk going by some part of the museum or something, and a group of very well dressed people walked out and saw me. I guess I can see how it might give them a pause, an extremely sweaty dude in a brown shirt and brown TAC pants with a MOLLE pack on my back and a G20 SF on my hip. Probably not the usual sight for the trail. Anyway, back to what happened. The individuals gave me a very "concerned" look, I could tell they were uncomfortable, and then all of them went back inside. I just smiled and waved, and carried on towards my car. About two minues after I go to my car two police vehicles (didn't see the city), rolled up slowly on the road that runs by the parking lot I was in, and it was quite obvious they were looking for someone or something. I had already changed shirts and was behind my car door so they couldn't see my firearm. Made me a bit paranoid though. Those individuals' behavior when they saw my gun and the police creeping up about 10 minutes later, I wonder if someone called LE and said there was a crazy person walking around with a gun?

Plausible, even probable. Would be a very good idea to acquire a digital recorder if you do not include one in your normal gear already.

Not that it would matter, but I'd bet you a box of ammo that the concerned gentlemen were from another state, probably one north of here. The Virginia Living Museum, despite its "tucked away" location, attracts folks from near and far. (My daughter works there). If you'd had the time and the inclination, it would have been interesting if you had stopped to chat with the 3 men. It probably would have prevented a needless call to the NN Police.

Considering what he's doing Grape, I'd suggest a GoPro camera set in one button mode. It not only gives him a record of encounters with PD but also takes great video and stills of things on his walk.

Lots of mounting options.

OC'd to GreatClips on VB boulevard (my little guys first haircut!), the Petsmart beside it, the cleaners down on Holland, ate over at the
Village Inn (PIE! WOO HOO:monkey), and then over to the Walmart near A&P- Mall Drive i think? No issues other than than the big dude in electronics told me that his manager told him that ammo sales stop at 10pm. I don't think this is law, maybe store policy or an employee being lazy? I didn't waste any time investigating, i have a reason to OC there again tomorrow!

Did see the gentleman over at the cleaners OCing a KelTec 9mm and we had a brief chat about guns.
