So does anybody in Cville actually do OC dining as a group... If not lets get it together. I haven't seen anybody else here OC. I've only had one LE ask to see my permit and heard a few people mumble some things to their friends. I don't know why more people don't do it.

#1- Thank you for your service to our country!!!

USAF, I open carry quite often in C'ville but mostly in the north end of town. I don't get downtown much. I'm up for an OC dinner so let me know when/where. thanks.

You know... I just now thought about that. I had it open carry, helping a guy that was passed out on the side of the highway. And it was when I had just had myCCW a few days. I didn't know that open carryI didn't even need to show him that. I thought you had to have that to carry open or concealed at the time.

The funny part about that is that I went to pick up the CCW from the courthouse when they finally finished it and I was running late for an appointment (still on the job for the day). So in a hurry I ran in, glanced at it, ran back out. Never gave it anymore thought till my g/f was looking at it and began laughing. I looked it over once more only to find it has I'm a female.... Needless to say, mr cop found it quite humerous too.

So can someone explain what the laws are dealing w/ UVA.  My g/f is a student there and lived in the dorms last year and i always just put the gun under the seat when i would go see her.

There are no "laws" for firearms at UVA. It is public property, and covered under Preemption. The administration has made policies, enforcable only to students and staff, that prohibit firearms. The Attorney General has also stated that guns can be regulated in dorms, classroom buildings and at events. See AG OP. NO. 05-078 for details.

I carry in cville almost daily, was on the Corner and DT last night. I'm in for an OC dinner, let me know when and where.

Next weekend would be fine with me if anybody is interested. I'll be at the DDay Memorial next Saturday but sometime Friday after 5 or Sun would work. You guys let me know where you'd want to go because even though I've been here almost a year I still don't know the restaurants that well.

What kind of permit did he/she wish to see?

I hope you explained Virginia law to him/her.

my concealed handgun permit. and unfortunately i didnt explain it. i didnt know at the time that you didnt even need anything to open carry. i wasnt even sure if it was legal. i was just driving by and saw the guy laying on the side of the road and figured it to be more important to help him instead of hassling w/ putting my jacket back on. at first i gave him my military ID thinking it would get him off my back and then he asked for my drivers license. I wish i had've known the laws at the time so I could've passed it on to him

Sounds like he/she didn't knowthe law as well. I hate to say it, but I would have enjoyed seeing them falsely arrest you. We need a good false arrest to educate all these snot nosed rookies in the area.(They will most likely never bother me. Most of them know --ortaught --that I will hang paper on them for wrongdoings in a heartbeat.)

haha Sounds like it. I wish I had've known at the time. Honestly, he seemed kind of pissed. He's probably one of those guys that just wanted to become a cop for the gun and was mad when he realized civilians can have em' too. lol BTW I read back on you're whole incident. Sounds like some small town BS that would've happened back in Danville. People are always trying to pull a fast one.

Sounds like you were in the county, as opposed to being in the city. Most of them don't want people carrying firearms BECAUSE of their own attitudes. Combined with the fact they're scared topush gun toting individuals around like they do other people.

The point being, if they would attempt the same foolishness they did to me on others, what areare they capable of doing to somebody that's scared of them and the criminal justice system, or somebody who doesn't have the money to cut 'em down to size? I have never yet notprevailed in any lawsuit I filed against rookie cops. And they don't pay just to make the lawsuits go away either, they fight all the way to the trial and settle as soon as a judge sets a definite trial date for a jury to hear my claims of their wrongdoings.

Hi all. I've been in the Charlottesville area for about eight years but I am brand new to carrying. I'm also new to the forum though I've been following this and many other topics for some time. I've been a bit nervous about open carrying in town since I hardly see anyone else carrying (just a few occasions) so I mostly carry concealed. I've got a new holster coming in soon and I plan to open carry a bit more. Anyways, it's good to join you all.

Definitely in for an OC Dinner if the opportunity arises.

I still get nervous too just because I'm new to carrying and I worry about getting hassled but I've been all over the corner area, pantops, down near campus, all over really and have yet to be bothered. I don't think most people even notice. And welcome to the forum.

Trust me, people do notice.

They simply assume you are a cop since you have a firearm.
This may be true. I tend to be at least fairly well dressed most times I carry so I can see how people would assume I'm in law enforcement. Just hoping they don't assume the other end of the spectrum...

I'm getting used to OCing now. I've carried most days this week to the grocery and a few restaurants without incident. Only one girl who's eyes got real big :what: for a second! It sorta feels like everyone's watching you but it's not so bad, actually. I assume that will leave with time?

Yep. As you get more experiencewith OC.

As for being mistaken for LE,a woman once addressed me as "detective."

I didn't know whether to be insulted that I was mistaken for a cop, or mortified that I look old enough to be mistaken for a "detective." :)
