I also seem to come off as VERY OFFENDED.

I didn't get that you seemed to be offended. Offensive, yes.

I have been referred to at various times as a redneck; sometimes derogatorily, other times not. I wasn't raised in this country and when one was called a redneck it simply meant someone who did manual labor for a living. That could range from farming/ranching to working on the roads or railroads or in sawmills. Work of this type commonly meant sunburn on the back of the neck, hence "redneck". It had nothing to do with being rural or uneducated. When we say we are proud, or at least not ashamed, to be known as a redneck it means we are unconcerned with labels others put on us. Labelling only shows the arrogance and ignorance of the labellers.

Now, can we go get a cup of Starbucks?:D

Thanks Ed for your thoughts on Starbucks

Ed helps to set the record straight on Starbucks' stance and how we can express our thanks.

When someone uses language such as was used in the article linked here it does not cause me to assume they are a redneck. It didn't read as redneck to me, it reeked of something of an entirely different nature...

I can't help but hold opinion that people who choose to use that kind of unnecessary and foul language must be uneducated and simply cannot find a way to adequately express their passion for the subject being discussed with use of proper English. I suppose the other option would be that they were raised in a home that did not teach them manners.

In any case it is completely unnecessary and offensive to find it linked from this site that is usually so careful to show the world that we are not ignorant of how to properly conduct ourselves in society. I don't care how 'informative' something is intended to be when it is wrapped in filth.

You'd be labeled a terrorist and executed for employing a WMD ;)

I dont think so. When a vessel containing a vaccum (like the cranium of the average rabid "anti") fails, it would implode, leaving very little mess, just making a loud POP...

I downloaded the "leave-behind flyer" from NGAC's website, and I'm currently working on one for "our side" that thanks Starbucks for respecting our rights, tells them that as law-abiding citizens we won't threaten them with boycotts and acts of economic terrorism, and also corrects the lies and misinformation on the NGAC flyer.

I'll be posting it in the next few days...

I thought you could OC in Ohio? Why go with an empty holster?

You can and I do sometimes. It will make the point well enough to have an empty holster and when one of the boycotters goes to bickering at me I just say "I'm not even carrying a firearm. Why are you so upset and getting in my face and behaving in a threatening manner?I'm showing you and you're views respect by not being armed on this day of yours while at the same time expressing my own respect and approval to Starbucks for letting me just be me. I thought you were all about peace and non-violence and stuff. GOD BLESS YOU and have a wonderful day"

Now maybe that's over the top but I'll lay money that the ones who (whom) show themselves to be loud and angry will be the boycotters. The OCers remaining layed back (Which I believe most will) will show any media that reports the facts properly that OCers and CCers are simply good decent people going about THEIRE OWN Bussiness.

Especially if a few OCers have a friend hanging out nearby with a video camera to document such possible events, and then post these encounters on YouTube, because you can believe that the Mushroom Media won't cover such a "non-event"...

BTW, Ohio is a "one party consent" state. So record away!

Thanks for the replies.

You can indeed OC in Ohio. Looks like you need a permit to OC in a vehicle though. Plus, they also have a stupid "must notify" law. Maybe that stops folks from OCing?

Looks like Washington is much like Ohio, except we have no "notify" laws.

I understand your viewpoint and thanks for taking the time to explain it. I carry into Starbucks regularly well everywhere I go. I have found that even most the anti's are willing to engage in polite conversation, the ones that aren't just make themselves look like fools and I quickly disengage any interreaction with them.

Just yesterday I ended up sitting down with and having about a 40 min conversation with someone very anti at Starbucks while OC'ing. I hope that our polite calm conversation dispelled many of her myths of gun owners/carriers. I think that since I seem approachable/amiable she felt comfortable talking to me.

Something we agree on.

I will also OC at Starbucks on other days. This day with the boycotters there they will know what I'mabout with just the holster. I bet most of them seeing that alone will consider I'm carrying and make remarks without chcking to really see. I'll spend some 2 dollar bills and as I'm leaving I'll call out "GOD BLESS STARBUCKS".

Thought it might be good to point out that this latest campaign against Starbucks is not limited to demonstrating just on Valentines Day. The negative pressure (what there will be of it) is scheduled to begin on that date and be ongoing. It is not simply a one day/time effort that is being pushed.

As we withdraw our support from those that do not permit the right to personal defense, so too must we to show our appreciation all year long to those establishments that are friendly to the cause.

Great advice and something we have done over the past few years in Washington. In my county we have weekly cups Sunday morning 10 am. Other areas do it monthly, and it has become a convenient spot to "break in" newbies.

We often have others join our table to discuss issues, sometimes even the anti's it makes me think of what may have happened at the pubs during the early years of this country and prior to it's founding.

Just in time for our "Buycott" of Starbucks, the FBI and BJA have issues another one of their funny little flyers to coffee shops and internet cafe's, telling them that people who pay with cash are "potential terrorists", and that employees should REPORT THEM to the FBI...

Gee, thanks, Mr. Holder. We love you too.

Speaking of which, I need to get to the bank this week and get more $2 bills... ;-)
