Sir Grumpy,...

...no harm, no foul. We at OCDO are a Constitutionally conscience collection of minds, and wit. Our First Amendment Rights' allow for that freedom. When you mention that, "you missed mine", I assume that you refer to a post. Please be advised sir that I'm the smart aleck that chose to ponder the "totality of circumstances" one must maneuver through when exercising one's Second Amendment Rights, and that being said am fully responsible for the free flow of opinions concerning this matter, at this time. Carry on. boar out. :D

I think a couple things to take from this thread is that many people, from those who prefer fists to those who use equipment to fight, we have to keep reinforcing what constitutes a fight in the gravest extreme.

I think this is partly because people like to fight and will often do so with very little motivation. When we're driving and get steamed up, if we could many people would punch out the driver in front of them. Humans have a 'fight or flight' response to things.

We have to TRAIN that instinct or whatever it is that there is only one type of 'fight' where you can use your firearm and that's life-or-death circumstances. You have to keep reminding yourself 'a traffic altercation is not life-or-death (now)', 'a parking spot is not life-or-death', a slight to your girlfriend is not life-or-death.

We also have to remind ourselves (and each other) that we are not vigilantes, we are not LEOs, we must not 'INSERT OURSELVES' into a situation even if we have the courage of Sgt York or Audie Murphy. We must be calm, polite, set a good example, deescalate, apologize (even if not in the wrong) and we must walk away if possible. In short, it's a 'mastery of self' that is the goal of responsible firearm carrying. Just because we 'can' does not mean we should. Anyway, you don't need to base your self-esteem on any situation you encounter (while armed). Be a good witness, call 911, warn off others, get the innocent out of harm's way. These are important things to do and when you're armed you can be prepared for a sudden counter-offensive.

BTW one thing I think that makes people want to use warning shots might be watching old westerns where the guy would say 'lay down some cover fire and I'll flank him, Tonto', and other shows where they didn't really want to show the good guys actually shooting someone. Heh, the best shots were where guys got 'winged'. Now, as adults we're told to shoot center-of-mass and we go 'wait, that's not what the Lone Ranger would do, he'd 'wing 'em'', lol.

Thanks, once again, for offering up $0.02 that is worth more than silver or gold.

Great googly moogly. Where do you live/hang out so I don't accidentally go there?

My sentiments exactly. I don't know anyone who "likes to fight", nor would I choose to associate with such. I will defend myself or others if need be, but I DO NOT go looking for fights.

Liking to fight, and looking for it...

...are two different things. Liking to fight doesn't make you an aggressor, IMHO, It simply means you are capable, and willing to engage another at close quarters, hand to hand. Some feel just as apt in several disciplines. I am not touting any ability's, that would be foolish, It boils down to personal fortitude. boar out :D
