Hopefully we'll get an answer from the County's Corporation Cousel in a expiditious manner on this one. I can see how it can be argued either way by us simple minded folks. And sorry guys, my yard isn't big enough for all of us.
It could take weeks, unfortunately, and this is not something I'm prepared to fight in court. Whereas we would of had complete legal carry in the park before, our legality now rests on an interpretation of the word "Similar." Go figure. :p

I'm going to cancel the park reservation, as I'll lose half the money in a few days since it'll be under 30 days 'till memorial day. I do have an alternate, knowingly legal, location in mind...stay tuned for details.

I still think a Milwaukee park would make more of a statement.

At the least it would force the Chief to "put up or shut up" on his "I will instruct my troops..." comment.

Isnt there one Milwaukee park that is far enough away from a school and with ample parking? Mcgovern or Smith? Lincoln park is huge.

The school zone restriction is not what's at issue here. Read the last page again. :p

Most parks in the City of Milwaukee are County Parks but there are some city owned parks. Not sure if city park Vs. county park will help with this "similar" issue.

Another issue is the city parks may fall under the Milwaukee Rec Department which may be associated with the school system....Back to the school zone issue.

Hmm...that'd be a real stretch.

948.61(1)(b)
(b) "School" means a public, parochial or private school which provides an educational program for one or more grades between grades 1 and 12 and which is commonly known as an elementary school, middle school, junior high school, senior high school or high school.

A school would have to claim that a park is literally on school grounds for a park to become a school zone, from the way I understand it.

Wow. I pretty much figured nobody around my age cares about this issue.
Do we have any more peers around here?

Have you had a pistol since you were 18, or did you wait until you could buy one.

A few gun ethusiast friends around Milwaukee, no one as serious about the issue as I am, though. Most are at out of state colleges like myself as well.

I purchased a few before I was 21 privately, and a few after I turned 21, when I could purchase through a dealer.

EVERY statement from the AG's office and EVERY official FAQ regarding WI State law and the Preemption clearly expresses that these country, city, village, etc laws are currently void and have been so since the 1990s. State Law only regulates State Parks. If County Land or City Land laws were similar to and not more stringent, then the statement by the AG and the AG's office would make no sense. As it is, Counties may not regulate County Parks. Because the law is still on the books, there islittle stopping a cowboy from arresting you under the "law". You can beat the rap but you may not beat the ride. The reality of an organized picnic is that even the cowboys know their limitations. There is no way that even Milwaukee city or County would be stupid enough to arrest for OC with all of the guaranteed media coverage along with spectator filming and witnesses. The courtroom would be turned into a circus. Can you imagine hauling 100 people in as witnesses???

Just updated the rules with the new location of the picnic. I'm done fussing around with parks, and my family has a yard very worthy of a picnic.

Please note the new guest policy; due to space limitations, I've changed it to Opencarry.org members and their immediate families only.

As far as how much attention we may get, I'm outside with my firearms in my yard frequently when I'm home, and I've never had the police called on me. Then again, I was one man, versus the 20+ of us. We'll see.

This is a good idea, private property THANK YOU for volunteering your property !

This will be alot of fun, might want to think about a portapotty ? I am sure we would all help out with the cost, as one portapotty, for 1 day won't cost that much, just an idea. otherwise, I can't wait !!:D Where about is your parents land ?
