That was fast:

"Thanks for writing to us. I’m sorry to hear there was some confusion about the sign. We actually decided to remove these signs from all our restaurants and I apologize that the sign was still up. I just called our team and spoke to George. The sign you are referring to is actually a sticker and George (or someone on his team) will scrape it off the door today. Of course, we will still follow all local laws regarding guns—and we will ask that our guests do the same—but as a company, we do not place any restrictions other than those required by local law.

Sincerely,
Shannon

This is good news from Chipotle. My wife, who has "liked" them on Facebook, has told me of a few of their customers who have either been asked to leave or those turned away by the "No Guns" sign that have left comments on their Facebook page. Up until recently Chipotle has not stated anything about a corporate policy, but has occasionally asked people to defer to the preferences of local management regarding these postings. As often as the wifester tells me about these postings, I've left comments under her account noting that "we can't figure out why a company like Chipotle would choose to get into the gun control and disarmament debate when successful businesses like Starbucks and many others choose not to discriminate against those who carry sidearms", or "I don't understand why Chipotle would ask their customers to give up their means to self defense for a burrito, but a meal is not worth risking your life", or similar. There are some who don't agree of course, but it's been interesting to see how many people agree with our sentiments in these postings.

Only recently has the wifester indicated that Chipotle posted to state that it has chosen to simply follow the applicable laws and does not discriminate against customers who carry sidearms for personal protection.

Should there be a thread here that could have cut/pastes of these kind of responses, so that for example someone could stroll through the thread to find the Chipotle response, or whatever? Frankly, having a single sticky like this would be nice (as search is iffy in finding these things) -- so if you walk in, someone decides that they are the new rule maker for a company and you pull out your iPad or whatever and pull that response out and show it to the manager right then and there. Issue resolved right then and there. Kind of like being able to have User's info in your phone/wallet.

Has anybody filed a FOIA. Think the mall management would have to respond as they are an "authority" as I understand it under terms of § 15.2-915.

Would request all correspondance, emails, memos and copies of purchase orders relative to "no guns" and/or "no guns" stickers/decals.

Agree, that's what I'm saying as well -- still think that this is malfeasance and if they've paid for this stuff and then don't cough up FOIA, then I think that we're entering very interesting territory. But regardless of who may have talked with whom (leaving no paper trail), someone paid for these stickers and there has to be a record of that. Government does nothing like that without a paper trail.
