I am fortunate that the pit is practically in my backyard. I was just there yesterday. I will try to make it to the shoot in November. Choosing a weekday was very smart, as the PIT is near insanity on weekends that close to hunting season.

May i request that each person who comes please bring at least one large trash bag, fill it with garbage from the pit, and take it home with you. Although there is often a pile of garbage near the entrance to the pit, there is no garbage pickup at this location.

I've been to the PIT many many times, and yesterday is the worse i've ever seen it.

here is a video i took yesterday also.

In the top photo it looks like someone threw out a perfectly good female human. Shame really.

Dang it!

Shall all us Southern Gents, carpool? :monkey:

In! I plan on attending this shin dig! I have been looking to send some rounds down range with my new SIG!

I am so looking forward to attending this shoot out with you.

I look forward to attending the shoot with you also! Anyone ever see super troopers? We can have stainless run back and forth with a steel target! ( not really though )
I'm thinking the same thing. I usually am able to get out to the other side of the state at least a few times during the summer; this summer I was involved in too many things to do that... and I just noticed last week that I have way too many personal business hours at work to let something this momentous go by. ;)

Indeed! finally I get to meet the elusive creature Dr. Todd
:monkey
This event is NON OFFICIAL, it claims no ties to neither OCDO, nor MOC INC, there names are mentioned only as to invite there forum members to this NON OFFICIAL event. This is also NOT a family event. It is NOT suggest to bring children to this event, although while perfectly legal for children to use firearms at a shooting range, there is expected to be many people attending this UNOFFICIAL event, where firearms will be un-holstered and fired on an active range. To limit the odds of an accident it is HIGHLY suggest that NO children attend this UNOFFICIAL event. Also ALL LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO EACH AND EVERY PERSON WHO ATTENDS THIS UNOFFICIAL EVENT. NO LIABILITY will fall unto OCDO, or MOC INC. in anyway, or any other poster in this or any other thread on the subject, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOURSELF! YOU MUST FOLLOW ALL FIREARM SAFETY RULES AT ALL TIMES!
1.) Always keep ALL firearms pointed in a safe direction.
2.) Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
3.) Always keep the firearm unloaded until ready to use.
4.) Know your target and what is beyond.
5.) Know how to use the firearm your shooting safely.
6.) Check and make sure the ammo you are using is the correct ammo for the firearm you are loading/firing.
7.) Wear ear and eye protection when firing, and warn others before firing to do so.
8.) Never use drugs or alcohol while firing/handling firearms.
9.) ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS call "cease fire", and confirm with everyone at the range, before entering the range to change targets/clean/or for any other reason. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check the range and make sure NOBODY is on the range, and call "live range", and confirm with everyone at the range before firing.

Please do not bother coming to this NON OFFICIAL event, if you do not agree with these safety rules. They are not just for others protection but your own. It is imperative, that everyone that comes agrees, so everyone that attends has a good time!

if you "seize fire" you may get burned. i always recommend wearing gloves while handling fire.

Yup.

The Pit is normally a great place to take your kids shooting. 02 November 2011 from 10am to 3pm will not be one of those times, as there will be many people not only shooting but socializing. If this was purely a shooting or purely a socializing event, It may be a good time to bring the children, but its not. Because there may be times when no one is shooting and the range is "clear", and everyone is standing around talking, or instructing, or showing off there latest "toy", we don't want children to become bored or impatient and do the unthinkable. I understand the chances of this is very very low, and I understand that if you are an OCer that your children more than likely know firearm safety, and know NOT TO TOUCH, but children are slightly more likely to have an accident or become impatient than an adult.

If you want to take your child shooting, I have no problem what so ever with taking them to The Pit, put I respectfully ask that you do not do it on the date listed at the time listed. Please respect these wishes. Thank You!

Only issue I have with this is it may suggest that we as responseable gun owners can't be responseable while socializing? Seems to be somewhat circular logic and I do respect the Idea even if I don't agree.

On the off chance of that happening, I'm sure they will keep to themselves. If they are close enough for it to be a possible issue we can respectfully request that the adult keep their children away from our uncased firearms.

Hmm, logical even sound advice.

lol, seconded.

thirded? Is that even a word?

It's better then throwing mud back and forth like to kids in a sandbox.

Hmmm, dirt in a sandbox? I have been lead to believe that sand is the only active occupant of an "official sandbox". Unofficial sandboxe's could have other rules though....
;)
And Wright and 1adam whatever sure are trollish and are pushing buttons that remind me of another heavily warted creature like that 50 cal shrek like individual.......:banghead:

What? This is a joke, right?

Seriously?

I do my BEST to keep my child NEAR uncased firearms whenever possible! Seriously. If I am at a shoot, so is he. If he is willing, he is participating! Why you would want it any other way is beyond me. Anyone bringing family members to such an event is responsible for them.

I feel I should point out that this was directed at keeping some random stranger's children away from, read it again, our uncased firearms. I know I don't want some random kids I don't know poking around my guns... just saying, this wasn't relevant.

Anyway, I'll try and make it, Its been awhile since I've been to the pit. I'll try and bring a new friend of mine who is just getting interested in OC... :-D

So, people attending the event have children that are considered some "random stranger's children?"
I attend organized events where children are present. I never consider them to be some "random stranger's children." And, as they are there WITH someone who is participating, it is very likely that they are well versed in how to act. If they aren't, the parents are responsible for them. And, it is the same at non-organized events.

Again, you seem to be lacking the proper literary skills required for investigative reading.
The original comment was a response to a question about people who were unaware of the event showing up during the event, as it is public property. I'm not responding to your other argument-provoking childishness, as I have not provided my opinion on the subject one way or another. I was merely pointing out that you had taken another poster's comment out of context.

What if somebody shows up that was unaware of the "unofficial" get together and they bring their child(ren), will they be asked to leave?

------Back to the event,
I'm gonna bring my PSL... got one of those side mounting scopes, and my beef is that once it is sighted in at a distance, because its side mounted, its hard to compensate for longer/shorter distances by just raising/dropping the reticle, as there is left/right compensation that needs to be done too... anyone else have a problem like this with a side scope?

Hey Evil; good to see you back.

Yes I have experienced this with my model 94 lever action. Only two ways to handle it that I have found;
1. Remove the scope...:(

2. PRACTICE...PRACTICE...PRACTICE...:banana::banana:

No, the original comment was directed exactly at those people here who would choose to participate. I can see no other way to view the statements of the op.

The OP mentions "not suggest to bring children to this event." If you are simply there, you are not at the event, are you?

And, in spite of your claimed intent to "not responding to some other 'argument-provoking childishness," that appears to be the main content you have presented.

The statement in question was... know what never mind, this is pointless and stupid. I hope you realize the same.

Warchild:

Hey buddy good to be back...

Yeah what I might do is get a different scope mount for it and a proper scope... even though I like my PSO arrow reticle...
