Had a very interesting OC day. Went to the Marshalls on Rainbow and Cheyenne and as I got to my car this man drives up in his truck and starts to compliment me. I, in return, say "thank you" and thought that the conversation was over. Oh...how wrong I was. I then noticed that he didn't drive off but continued to ask me questions..."Do you have a boyfriend?"..."Do you want a boyfriend?"... "Why is a beautiful girl like you not have a man?". So I just told him, AGAIN, that I'm not interested. Then it turned into "Well, I want to be your boyfriend." Again...I stated I wasn't interested. The he says " Well, how about a man that can just give you the best sex you ever had". At this point I threw my Marshalls bag and my purse into my car through the sunroof and I start walking towards the front of my car putting distance between us. The parking lot was not full so I had plenty of space to run...just in case. Then this yahoo begins to open his door and says "why don't we just talk for a little while?". At this point I tell him that he should just stay in his truck and leave (as I placed my hand on my gun). I guess THAT finally told him that I wasn't interested and he closes the door and drives off!!!!
While I understand your concern, you might want to be careful with that action. In some states that is brandishing = threatening serious bodily harm or death.

milady, i am extremely glad your event turned out so well...you might consider generating a police report just in case the man in the truck claims to the police out of the blue you threatened him by grabbing your firearm.

yes, Jeannette, i am one of the overly cautious types and truly despise they said I said type incidents...

again, glad you were OC'g and everything turned out well...

Yeah, that sounds like the start of an aborted kidnapping attempt. Only a defense attorney would try to argue it was nothing. Women and cops would see it for what it was; a creep creeping. Had she stuck the gun in the guys face, different story, but it wasn't criminal.

Given that (I assume) she was OCing, one has to wonder how things would have unfolded if she was unarmed? A scary thought.

Disparity of force. Women get to put their hand on their gun long before the typical man can get away with it.

That said, when he opened the door, it went beyond being just a creepy conversation.

That action alone upped the ante from conversation to action.

She was mere seconds away from being rushed and bodily harm,

Another case of defensive display stopping a possible criminal action before it started.

I am guessing he didn't see that she was armed because he had other things on his mind.

Way to go! Kudos to you. I find nothing more disgusting than rape. And no doubt this man wasn't looking for your consent.

Just another truly fantastic carry experience. The Great equalizer. Little lady, you were almost a typical victim...if it were not for your willingness to arm yourself. Thumbs up!

I'm linking to this article.

My cousin’s daughter lives in Mesa Az opens carries . Some years back returning to her car at a store parking lot not may cars in the lot noticed a guy walking at the same speed and appeared to be moving in on her at an angle. She then noticed another guy approaching from the other side of her as she got to her car they were getting close and still heading toward her. She positions herself to make sure they could see her firearm. They both saw it about the same time and quickly change direction like a dance move. She quickly got in her car and left with no more issues.
I say for you Job well done I do agree if reporting it might keep some other unarmed young lady from being his victim. Hard for me to believe your hand on a safely holstered firearm would be considered brandishing.
Unless a greater penalty is provided in NRS 202.287, a person having, carrying or procuring from another person any dirk, dirk-knife, sword, sword cane, pistol, gun or other deadly weapon, who, in the presence of two or more persons, draws or exhibits any of such deadly weapons in a rude, angry or threatening manner not in necessary self-defense, or who in any manner unlawfully uses that weapon in any fight or quarrel, is guilty of a misdemeanor. You definitely did not draw it and leaving it the holster as it is normally and legally carried is not exhibiting it.

It's a little sad that the majority of the locals that OC regularly are not active here, but I guess on some private Facebook group instead. I guess those of us who kept it alive through the Dark Ages don't get to hear about the experiences of the younger ones. But I digress.

I had a great experience yesterday. While it was at a regular spot that's never had a problem with it, one of the newer managers made it a point to come over and chat with us for a bit. He says he's seen a few others, and has never had a problem with it, including those of us who drink beer. I was able to ask about the corporate policy because I'd heard that some of their locations in Texas have posted against it, Texas being a state where OC was talked about a lot because it is a very new thing for them. He says the individual general managers are given the authority to make the call for each location, but that many stores, even in Texas, are not making an issue of it.

The family and I recently moved back to Sparks, NV. Had to spend the last few years in CA for personal/family reasons, but we're very glad to be back in NV. I haven't been many places yet, but I OC'd at Home Depot the other day while picking up an online order. A couple of looks from some women that were getting into a minivan with WA plates, but other than that, totally uneventful. Just the way it should be.

I understand the frustration. However the FB bunch is where many of our future supporters will come from. We can work with them and try to educate them to become an asset to open carry or we can let them run amuck with the possibility of reversing what has been gain. Often issues come up on the FB I know that has been handled on open carry dot org. I am constantly suggesting on the FB page for them to post or read about the issue on OCDO. Jeannette did post her OCday on FB open carry and received 25 replies and over 45 likes, FB works for open carry. I had not realized she had all ready posted it here I did encourage her to so, she is a sharp young lady and on top of her game as most on the FB page are. Most are very new and young to OCing and looking for seasoned opinions. Sure there is a few that are unwilling to listen however most are looking for good info. The open carry FB page can be a huge boost to the open carry movement. Some of issues I feel like a lone woof looking for that additional knowledge and back up support we see here, not able to win the battle on some of the issue due to the lack of tools on my part. Years ago on ocdo there was constant battles every day to clean up the know it alls, done it been there experts, Rambo I am the best, BSers good thing the poster back then kept pushing back with accurate data, group support, and the will to educate. It took some years to make ocdo nv what it is now.

Thanks!!!

Thank you all for the support you have given me. Since this has happened I cannot stop thinking of what would have happened if I had not been carrying. I OC 100% of the time yet I still wonder...if I was concealing would he have bum rushed me? And if I drew from concealment...would I now be facing charges? But the upside is that my story has been shared to others who think that nothing can happen in the middle of the day and I hope that they REALLY think about protection. But all in all I'm happy there was a happy ending!

Have you been in trouble before with the law? Does your demeanor strike someone who doesn't know you as someone looking for trouble? Do you come off as believable? Are you 6' 5", 250 lbs or are you an average woman?

After considering the answers to those (and similar) questions, ask yourself if the prosecutor in your neck of the woods would be willing to charge a woman who believably explained the fact pattern you've put forth?

Regardless (and forgive me for forgetting if you've answered this already), I hope you called 911 and reported what transpired. I've had students tell me that in similar circumstances, they didn't - and guess who called the cops saying that a gun had been pulled on them?

I absolutely agree about Facebook. Its reach is tremendous, but the depth of various posts leaves much to be desired.

I organize various open carry Walks and other events and nothing beats FB, but I've yet to find any FB group with the collective knowledge, experience, and willingness to share as OCDO.

This is why Nevada law requires that there be a presence of two or more people in order for you to be guilty of unlawful threatening with a firearm. It can't happen on a simple "he said; she said."

I wouldn't blame anyone for not calling the cops in that situation. All it's going to do, in reality, is take another 3 hours out of your day, and you will probably be disrespected (disarmed) while talking to them. Oh, yeah, and NOTHING will happen that can help unless you have clear video evidence that the other person committed a crime they care about and your evidence includes the information they need to find them EASILY.

I was thinking of making a report but I think because nothing physically happened that they would just hang up on me. Besides...he took off real fast out of the parking lot that I couldn't see his plate. My info that would have been given anyway would have been very vague. 3 hours Mac?! It probably would have been more!

I don't know Nevada law, but I have direct and indirect experience with various laws' "requirements" - and I think both of us are old enough to know that LE at various levels (including prosecutors) can and do ignore such particulars at various times.

Excellent story that needs to hit bloomberg's demanding mommies. BTW we met at the Chicken Shack.
