After action report

Just finished dinner with Southernboy and Roscoe13. Good time was had by all, and we have another place to put on our list of restaurants to visit. Food was good, salsa was great, chips were so so, company was outstanding. There were 6 from Oklahoma and one other local, my cousin.
I look forward to the next time we are in the area and can do this again.

Damn!! I tried to get there, but first got hung up finishing stuff up in W.Va.; left barely with enough time to get back, had a full tank of gas, and started driving. I'd just about gotten to the top of the ridge at where Panorama used to be at Thornton Gap on Rt. 211 when the car died. Out of gas. A guy from the Luray area showed up, Harold Lawson, an avid re-enactor who gave me an education on effective cleaning of muzzle-loaders in the field. He drove me to a gas station in Luray and back to the car. If anyone has a chance to do Harold a favor on my behalf, I'd appreciated it. But the long and short of it is, I got back to Fauquier at about 9:30. Phooey.

Well, sounds like y'all had a good time, anyway. Glad it worked out.

Btw, there's a great Northern Indian style buffet restaurant in Centreville. And I sort of had the idea that there wasn't much over on the other side of Manassas other than the Peruvian Chicken Barbequeue thing. I'm always up for new gustatory experiences, however.

Do you know the name of it? I love Indian food and I'll be visiting my family in Manassas in a couple weeks. What does "northern" indian mean?

Northern India is the region around Delhi. India isn't really one nation, it's an empire, and has been since the Sixth Century. Lots of disparate groups of people, all with different preferences in cuisine. So West Indian / Pakistani is one thing, Punjabi another, etc. Northern Indian is generally somewhat spicy and relies heavily on stewing - traditional things include curries and tandoori barbequeue, meats include lamb, chicken and goat, with vegetable stuff made of spinach, home-made cottage cheese, lentils, split yellow peas, and the usual imports: potatoes and tomatoes which are now ubiquitous worldwide. Served with nan, traditional flat bread.

The place I like is called "Rasoi of India" (rasoi means, like, "taste of"), located off Centrewood Dr on the S. side of Lee Hghwy. Sort of between Grand Mart and the Fairfax Library. It's an "eat all you can" buffet at a reasonable price.

USER - we don't have plans for tonight, so if you think you will get back in time call me, and we can have at least 2 of us to join you for dinner. I am flexible, so if another location is better for you, we are good to go. PM sent with my number.

Here are two very good Indian restaurants in Prince William County well worth a visit (I've been to both).

Masala Magic Indian Fusion Restaurant &
14313 Potomac Mills Road, Woodbridge VA

Taste of Tandoor
13836 Smoketown Rd., Woodbridge, Virginia

And there is always Jaipur on Lee Highway fairly close to Fairfax Circle.

My wife and I are regulars at Rasoi -- go at least once every month or so. Last time we went, they had a chicken vindaloo that was right up there with my cooking, for hotness.

Southernboy - do you live out that way? I almost never go to Woodbridge for anything. That's the other end of the world, for me. Would Centreville be a legitimate halfway point for such events, you think?

Oklaccer - I enjoyed meeting you and your co-pilot yesterday evening. Let us know next time you're going to be in town, and we'll try to schedule another event around your appearance.

No, I'm closer to you. I live pretty close to Gainesville. There's a few good restaurants in the Woodbrige/Dale City area I'll visit from time to time. I really like Indian food but can't take any food that is very hot/spicy. I'm going to have to try the one in Centreville. The only one I knew about there was Preet Palace which I've been to over the years several times (but not for maybe three years).

I will definitely let the group know the next time we have plans for Manassas. It was fun.
