Hello everyone. Been away for a while. dropped in to see how things are going.:)

True on Zaxby's. Have been in the Greenville and the new store here in New Bern. Nothing negative at either location. One customer comented that he wished everyone would carry. My question to him was, "And where is yours?". He just smiled and told me thanks for keeping the 2A alive.

New OC'er in Johnston County

Hello everyone, new to this forum but not to firearms
I just obtained my first pistol [Star Model A], and with the knowledge that I am within my rights, I have started to open carry (still really nervous though!). I've gone to the Food Lion in both Dunn and Benson, and the Exxon in Benson near I-95. Great experiences- most people just seem not to notice. A cashier at the Exxon (Who I know well) said, "Not coming to shoot me are you?". Smiles all around. I'm actually pretty surprised by the lack of reaction in general.

Positive experiences aside, is anyone else in the Johnston Co. area? If so, do you know something I don't about carrying?
Also, any business known to be unfriendly to OC?

Does anyone carry a printout of statues folded in their holster? It's an idea that occurred to me in the chance of trouble.

Thanks in advance,
wonderful community!

Welcome to OCDO and kudos on your gun choice, I have one also, I love it though holster choices are slim.

I know, it was a struggle to find one that fit at the shop! I ultimately went with a simple cloth/padding filled affair that holds it nicely, you have to drop it in a little though. The strap fights nicely behind the hammer so that it can't be cocked with the strap over it. Just fired it for the first time yesterday, unbelievably smooth.
Thanks for the warm welcome!

Did you get it at a gun shop or buy it online. I have owned a few of them over the years and talked out of them by LEOs. My current one I found at a pawn shop, it is ugly, the blue has a aged patina, and the grips are well worn. But I like guns with character, and it is very, very accurate for a military semi auto. I am planning on replacing the recoil spring this month as the one in it is probably the original.

I found mine at a pawn shop. Finish is worn in several places, mostly intact. Has the Armas Tropas Aviacion / Ejercito del Aire seal on it...the grips have DEFINITELY seen their day...one thing that does concern me is that the rear sight is beat up and has been drifted to the right a little. I, my wife, and a friend passed it around yesterday at two shots apiece- only one round hit the target at 5-6 yards!

EDIT: Not a bad buy at $225 with ammo though

Sarco used to have barrels for them, but that has been years ago. I know they still sell them, I don't know about parts. You might need to drift that sight back on target, mine is dead on, I have two barrels. One it came with was well worn, another that I purchased from Sarco about 10 years ago. What type of ammo did you get with it? Be careful not to use 9X23 factory loads they are way to hot.

I got 21 rounds of 9mm largo circa 1954...
will the sight drift back to center just with a punch and mallet?
Would you recommend a new barrel?
Last question out of the barrage,
Are there other ammunitions that I can use?
(My original plan was to buy surplus 9mm Largo, get reloading equipment, and keep the brass!)

Yes but use a brass drift. Not unless the barrel has a lot of wear, if it looks good your problems are your rear sight. Surplus largo is berdan primed and not re loadable. You can buy largo brass from star line online. 9X23 is slightly shorter then largo brass so it may not work in your gun, but the brass can be loaded to largo pressure and may work. Cut down .223 brass will work also, but that probably would be more expensive than buying largo brass from star line. Years ago I found the surplus ammo a tad hot, the primers flattened out more than my reloads did. I load to the low end of 38 super loads from Hodgon using Universal Clays powder. 9mm loading dies will work fine, though I use a 38 auto FCD die instead of a 9mm FCD.

Hello Zakn. Welcome to the forum.:)

Yes on the printout carry. After printing, I tri-fold them. I gave out a few this past weekend. Most people that you give them to have a look of utter surprise on their face. I do tell them that it is up to the individual to know and understand the law concerning whatever method of carry they choose, whether open or concealed, and that the printout is a guide to basic info concerning such.

I printed several copies of the flyer and trifolded them, as well. I carry mine in my shirt pocket - it's the pocket farthest from the holster and least likely to freak people out if I reach for one.

Also OC'd today to Tractor Supply (twice) and Southern States, as well as a little gun store (?Good Ol' Boys? - I can't remember the name) across from the DMV. One of the guys in the gun store seemed to make a point of staying directly behind me, about 6-8 paces, while I was looking and talking with the other guy, but nothing was said. Went home, unloaded the van, and then unfortunately, I had to disarm and leave it all at home since I drive a school bus in the afternoon.

Excellent point! Thank you!

In 2009 I bought some parts (extractor & spring - they sent me 2 or 3 of everthing) from a firm in Spain that bought the tooling and stock from Star after they went bankrupt. They cannot sell frames, barrels or slides by Spanish law. Problem I noticed tonight though is that there web-site has disappeared or been changed. Might send them an email if you need and internal part - see if they are still in business. I'm afraid this hidden jewel may be gone though.:(

Then there is this most informative site with references to where Star parts can be located. Check it out:

Wolff springs are prolly some of the best springs made and last time I bought two sets for my M40 Firestar:

Also found my post with holster information for M43 & M40 Firestar compact.

While I daily carry a 1911, this is my Sunday go to meetin' gun when I want something a bit more tidy.

My FireStar M40 is one of my favorite compact handguns - totally reliable and very accurate. Carry it in a Galico F519T AV218 holster.

Yea I was going to order them from wolf springs. I also am going to order new hammer springs for my PA-63 to lighten the DA pull for the wife. I love the star and normally carry it in a French police duty holster that I adapted to fit the Star. After I order some more leather scrap I will make a new holster for it, the pieces I have left from the last batch are too small.

When I worked undercover the Star or a 1911 were what I carried. No holster(criminals do not use holsters) just shoved behind the right hip in the belt. I did have a belt slide for the range. The Star's slimmer profile was perfect for concealed carry. The first Star Modelo I had was a 9X19 I took it apart and sand blasted it. Then a friend was the manager of a business that teflon treated industrial gears. He treated the Star and I took it to the range and sold it that day for 3 times what I paid for it, that was 35 years ago. I bought another one for $100, they were inexpensive then, and did the same thing. Same for Ballester Molina .45 ACP, once I got the bug I started buying them, and reselling them to other LEOs for a nice profit. I wish I still had one, but they are no longer that inexpensive.

Wolff Springs has a shipping backlog of a few weeks. I just got mine after long wait.

Little Ceasars PIZZA! PIZZA!

OCed in there the other day, it's my usual Lil C spot, went in, ordered, payed, when i went to get the boxes of pizza, the cashier told me almost in an almost whispering tone, "next time you come, leave the piece in the car" I said, "Is there a no firearms allowed policy here? because there is no sign outside." he said, yea we are not supposed to serve you if you have a firearm.... I've been there more than 50times OCing, and it took them this long to say something? Well I emailed their customer care center to see if its corporate or branch policy, I will post update when I get email response.
