I've been working on her with the guns ever since she came to the States in '99, she's come a long way. The first time she saw me with my 30-30, her eyes got big as saucers and she didn't understand why I had it out. (I was just going to wipe it down and put a fresh coat of CLP on it)

Now I sleep with a loaded pistol on my nightstand and take my boys(16 & 11) shooting regularly, doesn't bother her a bit, although she does admit to never thinking her kids would be gun people.

I think with common sense and what I've learned here, her fear of a gun snatch is pretty much non existent.

went to Taco bell. the guy behind the counter asked about my carry. we got into a conversation about carry. he was from MA, and was surprised that no permits were required. he asked about CHP costs. he said it was about 5,000$, where he was from, even if you could get one. told me he had a child on the way and wanted to get something. i told him to contact me and i would be glad to help. told him about this site and GRNC.

another customer walked in, made a smart a$$ comment on me carrying, so i said it is here for your protection as well as mine

also went to wallyworld and asked the girl ( at the sports desk) about carrying laws she got the CC law right. but was totally wrong on OC. first said you couldn't do it but then said you needed a permit

Cardinal State Bank OC Friendly

I went into the Cardinal State Bank in southern Durham on Friday to open a new checking account. Not one word said about my pistol. I went to another branch in northern Durham the next day and nary a word was said there either. Cardinal State Bank is part of Yadkin Valley Bank. They also have Piedmont Bank, High Country Bank, and American Community Bank. I can only assume that these other banks have the same policy regarding OC.

I spent last week in Florida. Some of their laws (or lack thereof) are pretty good, but the biggest and most glaring difference is there complete lack of trust in their residents when it comes to open carry. Due to me not wanting to deal with TSA and flying with a gun, I left them at home. I also do not have any kind of CC permit from any state, so carrying there for me is virtually impossible. I've learned a few tricks around their laws like being able to OC if you are going fishing or hunting, or on your way to the range. I guess in that regard I could have picked up some cheap fishing junk and put it in teh car, but I really just didn't want the possible hassle that could come with me being confused about their laws there. So, I left them at home this time.

My main point is this: Compared to states with no OC provisions or such, we here in NC have it pretty good. Not perfect by any means, but we have it pretty good compared to FL, TX, and a few others that do not allow OC in general. I felt completely naked and exposed without being armed. I was surprised at how heavy the impact of it felt.

Now, I understand CC and all of that kind of thing blah blah, but CC is just not for me for various reasons. It may be one day, or maybe my views will change in that regard, but at this point in life, I doubt it. But we never know in life. All I know right now is that being in places that do not allow for OC just pure sucks.

Rotorhead, I completely get your point on feeling naked and vulnerable without your sidearm. Let me reassure you, though, that flying with a handgun is NO BIG DEAL! It is REALLY easy once you read the rules and follow Mac's Guide to Flying With a Firearm (on GlockTalk).

And I was at Wilkesboro Walmart the other day had a guy ask me what he had to do to oc told him all the laws I knew and gave him slip of paper with the open carry.org website on it.

Sweet! I'll check that out some time.

Honestly, I don't fly all that much any longer these days and I don't have one of them fancy cases the TSA requires, unless a gun's original manufacturer's case (the case the gun came it) counts. It was a busy trip with many moving parts and this was just one less headache to deal with, even though it's probably much easier than I think.

Thanks for the info!

You can use a gun's original case if you can lock it. I use a Glock case and Master Lock with the adjustable length shackle. Your luggage is also safer as TSA keeps a close eye on it and I guarantee it will make it to your destination with you. They will hold a plane to make sure your bag makes it on a connection. There are people that pack a starter pistol (TSA treats it like any other firearm) in their checked luggage for that very reason. They don't mark the bag in any way so the baggage handlers have no idea.

Here is a fun site to read about packing your weapons.

Not entirely "work safe" if you watch the videos...but a fun read with airline and airport reviews/experiences.

Cool stuff, thanks.

I'll read up on all of that crap eventually. I've really gotten away from flying so much and drive when I travel when possible. There was no avoiding it on this trip though lol. I hadn't thought of the extra care given to the bagage though, great point.

And thanks for the link, btw, carolina guy!

in Fayetteville (behind Smithfields). I had a rain jacket on so I was using my concealed carry option. Saw a younger guy (20's) with wife and kid grocery shopping. He was carrying what looked to be a 1911 with extended magazine (very prominent). I didn't notice anyone give him a second look. Lots of employees re-stocking. Whoever you were, good for you.

I did see someone from work who I avoided just because it was easier. :uhoh: Not that I care what they think but it would be just easier not to talk to them.

Sounds like me and I would imagine a lot of us when we see someone we work with/know of in a place like wal mart lol

Have learned so much from all of you!

After keeping a eye on this site for the past year or so and learning my rights and all about the 2nd amendment I've finally decided to open carry. Just waiting on my Owb holster for my LC9 and I'll be proud to open carry and educate as many people as I can. Thanks everyone on this site for opening my eyes and helping me learn all about my right to bear arms.

I've lived in n.c my whole life and have only seen 2 people that were not Leo's open carry. Let's continue to change this!

Oddly enough almost twenty years ago it was a lot more common to see folks open carry. We can thank the pushing of the privilege card for less people CCing as opposed to OCing. A lot of people have been misled by instructors, and LE that OC is illegal without a permit, or illegal. IMO if we do not exercise the right and stand up to those who wish to get rid of OCing we will get screwed.

Oc everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!

I open carry everywhere I go either in Greensboro or in Fayetteville when I visit the folks. I do it for the simple reason that I want to educate people on the rights they have and could possibly lose. I have never ever had a bad experience. I had one woman in a restaurant whom my friend said looked appalled, but she never made mention of anything to me, so I don't know. I am approached quite frequently by passer by's and they ask why I don't conceal it. Well, I tell them, because I don't have to. Then we usually get into a discussion over our Bill of Rights and The Constitution, so all in all it generally goes well. The more people out there educating, the better our success. I often tell people who say so what if we lose the Second Amendment? Well, I say, what if we lose the 14th? And that usually shuts them up. I mean you lose one, they all come tumbling down.
I had an issue over the phone one time with a Guilford County Sheriff who has since been re-educated due to numerous phone calls to his Training Commandant, where he assured me that open carrying is GOTTOP. Well, I called the NC AG where his office assured me that it is perfectly legal to open carry in the Tarheel State. I mean if they want to haul me off to jail and let me sue them for wrongful imprisonment, so be it. Throw a little mud in their face. Standing up for our Freedoms is what we all are supposed to do and should do to keep them. I teach my kids about our Rights so they will know how to keep them if ever I am not around.

You will never have these encounters with people if you conceal your handgun. There is no better way to promote and uphold your 2A rights than open carrying. Don't forget to print out a bunch of OC flyers and hand them out to those that you talk to!

I had a cute, freckled, redhead (*drool*) chat me up last night at wally world in Cary due to my OCed sidearm. She asked if I was an off-duty, or someone just exercising their rights. I gave her an affirmative to the latter, and she started talking about an incident (I forget if she said it was in NC) where a guy and his family were kicked out of a Home Depot for open carrying. Apparently he was there to get supplies to renovate his daughter's room. He left, went to another home improvement store, bought a few grand in supplies and posted his story and receipt to Home Depot's facebook page in protest. I havent looked in to this, myself..anyone heard anything?

*edit*
Nevermind, I found what I think she was referring to. It was another incident with an anti associate that happened in January in Iowa.

Good afternoon: Thank you for your note. Our policy is that we do not prohibit anyone who is legally permitted to carry firearms from entering our stores, provided the firearms are carried in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

I’m sorry some of the store associates your colleagues spoke with were not familiar with our position.
