Re: OC experience reports

Nice evening out to McCall's in Clayton, to meet with some fellow enthusiasts tonight... Need to verify that they are listed as a friend on the map, for sure! No idea if any of us got at looks, but it was a nice easy night of OCing!

JayT It was good to meet you at the meeting at McCall's last night. Great work on the web site you created. McCalls is a place I hold open carry meeting every month, most patrons are use to seeing us with guns. Hope to see you at one of our TOC meeting soon.Lannie Godwin

I've been lurking for a while, finally decided to join up.

OC'd in Home Depot in Hendersonville today, spent about an hour and a half in the store with my wife. No strange looks or anything. I did have the guy in the paint dept ask how I got a permit to OC, told him I didn't because there's no need (and no such thing). He seem surprised, said he was retired LEO from CA. I gave him a flier and we talked about OC. He was definitely interested (he said he tried and failed to get a PPP here since he hasn't been here 6 mos). Otherwise, completely uneventful.

Also OC'd in Lowe's in Hendersonville 2 weeks ago, nothing to report there, either.

Whew! Finally made it through all 2028 posts, I plan on OC'ing when I get home and all these stories increase my confidence in doing it, it's just strange to me that I have never seen anybody OC who wasn't an LEO.

I know you say a lot of people don't notice, but after my first combat tour to Iraq, I get nervous in crowds so I try to be aware of other people and what they're doing. I admit I'm probaly a little complacent now, it's been 8 years since then, but I never see it.

When I get home though, the odds of others seeing it go up, and the more it's seen, the less harassment that will happen.

Just wanted to make sure all of you know. The owner of Country Barbeque in Greensboro off of 68 is a good friend of mine and I spoke with him about OC in his resturant. As long as you are respectful and not acting like a fool you can OC in there and enjoy the meals.

there is also no signs posted

went to the salvation army store today to drop off some stuff. the guy at the dock knew me from past events. commented on my side arm. then we talked about the he wanted to get a firearm for self defense but would probably just keep it at home. i gave him the fire extinguisher analogy and he got it. he is in VA so i told him what the laws were in VA, they are 5 years ahead of NC.

anothe older couple came up while we were talking. they were pro gun too. she said watch out the chief and commander will want to take mine. i agreed

Greetings lads, first time OCer here. Been lurking on this forum for probably a solid 2 years, gaining information on OC for when I got old enough to carry. Open carried at the Wake Forest Taco Bell and Super Walmart, with my full sized M&P 9mm in a G-code XST REAC holster. I was a little nervous being only 18, but luckily I was also with my dad who was CCing at the time. Luckily nary a comment was made about me carrying and made it home with no incident.

there is a few meet and greets around you. i know they have regular ones in the Raleigh area

here is a web site with meeups

http://www.meetup.com/Triangle-Open-Carry/

I'll look into that when I get back, out here that website is blocked, but you will definitly see me after I get home.

OCDO is a huge help, got into a discussion with my wife about OC, she had already agreed to me CC'ing, and she brought up the usual arguments "someone will try to take it" or "you make yourself into a target", but because of info gleaned from here I was able to if not entirely convince her that it makes sense at least I got her to trust me and let me OC with no complaints.

ps. My wife is Japanese, so anything involving guns is literally a foreign concept (pun intended)

Seems strange to me that the linked site is blocked, yet you can get on OCDO.

Admire some of the cultural attributes of that society - she'll follow you anywhere.

My momma said it differently quoting from Ruth: "Wither thou goest, I will go."

I was surprised when I found OCDO that it wasn't blocked. Once I get home though I can look them up.

As far as my wife, I've drug her all over the country for 18 years, she still goes with me, definitely more patient than most.

Also she's a little surprised how much my sons enjoy shooting with me, I can't seem to get her into it though.

From my understanding Japan has a a large airsoft shooting community. Not quite the same, but it shows they have the desire to shoot. Like with anything getting in the presence of others will show that is is not a abnormal behavior. You can also get her involved with this site, and we can debunk her fear of a gun snatch.
