I walked into the Taco Bell and got in line behind the lady ordering her food. There were about 4 or 5 other people in the restaurant at the time sitting down and eating. After she orders, she steps aside and I order my food. I see her notice my sidearm and she gives me the stare down as I order. After ordering, I walk past her to fill up my drink when she says:

Her: Walking around with that THING on your hip like that. Next thing you know, people are going to get shot

Me: *silence as I fill up my Pepsi*

Her: No need for people like you to have guns

Me: *More silence*. She clearly was a clueless anti, and maybe racist as well...not sure if the "people like you" comment was directing at me being a regular citizen or because of my skin color (Indian-asian ethnicity, and I have a pretty big beard).

Her: Because of people like you, innocent children were shot.

Me: *more silence*. Now some of the other patrons are staring at the woman. Her food comes up now. She stares at me for a good minute muttering something I dont remember at me, waiting for me to respond. She gets frustrated and leaves.

Haha! I wouldn't have said anything, either...though, I would have pulled out my cell phone and had a nice video to upload to YouTube when I arrived home. ^.^

Not me, I don't eat there, don't like those sort of places. It has been known for sometime that Cracker Barrel is anti gun, yet they hang a shotgun over the fireplace in every one. Besides IMO there food is not that good.

Not me, I live <6 miles from there, but the food is over priced and low quality.

Re: OC experience reports

I open carry almost every Thursday night at Whataburger in Concord without any issue. The food is not the best but the prices are good and the people are nice and they never give you a hassle about your gun.

Fat-fingered from my Samsung Galaxy TAB2...

Which one do you usually visit? I keep meaning to stop in and try them out. ;-)

took my grandson to pre-k the other day. it is a private school , but they had the kill-zone signs up. so i had to leave my OC firearm in the truck. as i walked in a little pissed about having to disarm. i said to my GS, well here we go into a kill zone. a teacher that was at the door said, you're right. as i was walking out to leave she said to me yes it is a same that we are not allowed to protect ourselves. i commented on how the teachers could have saved the lives of the kids a sandy hook, she said you are absolutely right. good to hear a teacher say that

couple days later went to McDs with 2 GC and as we were leaving we started talking to some folks and the young man there asked if i was a cop. normally i would say i can't tell you. but today i said no, to which he mentioned my gun. i said i carry for self defense and that everybody should carry, and maybe some day he could. the older adults agreed . but then they mentioned a child that shot his self through the finger. i related that my father did the same thing, which showed that age had nothing to do with it. but also9 that is why young people need training to stop such things
one woman said how she hated guns . i said that's alright just as long as you don't try to take my constitutional rights away from me. the young man talked to me as we left and we parted positive

another young man about 6-7 years old came up to me and asked me why i carry a gunand i told him because if any BGs tried to harm either me or you i would be able to do something about it. he said OK and turned around and walked off. hope he remembers it being good

Matt93eg pls go back to the store tomorrow and ask for the manager and then ask your question...if the manager states it is Wally's policy no OC then ask for the District Manager's name and walk out...

then call the DM and ask when that wally changed corp policy...be pleasant if the DM also states it is corp policy smile sweetly and contact wally corp office on monday with the information you have gathered as for names, etc.

i open carry in at least 8 wallys in my immediate area (Goldsboro - 2, Mt Olive, Wilson, Clayton, and several others) on a weekly basis including back in their sports area (aka gun/ammo) w/o anybody saying a word...

i believe you will find the manager is quite receptive of your complaint...

keep us informed...

wabbit

I always OC in the one in Greenville. Went in last week and as I rounded the corner a Greenville Officer in uniform was standing there talking to the clerk. I walked between both (they were standing in the middle of the isle), strong side to the officer, and went to the ammo case. The clerk came over and asked me If I needed help. They had no ammo so I left. Neither the clerk nor the officer batted an eye at me. I have seen several officers in there and have never had an issue. Im sure you are right, that was just a personal opinion by the woman who answered.

The wife and I have been to the one in Greenville behind Panera a few times. We go to Morehead often but have not been to the Coldstone there. You, sir, just got yourself two loyal customers. Maybe you should post some pro-OC and CC signs. :D

This isn't so much of an OC experience report as it is a CC experience report and the subsequent appreciation for the ability to OC here in NC.

We took a drive down to Florida over the weekend to visit with family and get away from the cold weather. Turned out that the weather down in FL, although much nicer than it was up here, had turned cloudier and slightly cooler than it had been before we arrived. Oh well, it was still nice. Anyway, I had to CC my full size .45 SA XD the whole time. I don't have an IWB holster or anything like that - just my serpa cqc level II holster. Perhaps it is somewhat akin to OCing in that after a time you don't think about it so much, but I was always checking to see if my shirt had ridden up over my gun. What a PITA. And what a relief it was to be able to OC at our first stop in NC - at the rest stop on I40W just after the I95 intersection.

I always found CC as a police officer uncomfortable, and a pain. But we were not allowed to OC in plain clothes. Many times I just left the gun at home, against policy.

The way things are going everyone really needs to get in touch with people in your specific area and do our day to day running arounds with as many people as we can muster just a thought.Politicians have no problems showing their strength why should we.

Today during lunch

Today during lunch I had an interesting conversation about firearms with a couple seated next to me in the restaurant.
I should preface my comments by saying that I was carrying my Sig P226 in an OWB holster but due to the wintery weather it was covered by my coat. Following my wife’s doctor appointment this morning, her, my son, my granddaughter and I decide to have lunch at the recently renovated Golden Corral in Morehead City. Shortly after being seated an older couple seated themselves at the table next to us. As I returned to my table from the buffet, the lady seated next to us observed that I was armed and asked “Excuse me sir but are you a police officer?” I responded that I was not a LEO, just a citizen that has taken responsibility for the safety of my family and myself. She responded by asking if I had a permit to do that. I told her that a permit to openly carry a firearm is not required in North Carolina. She said that she always thought that a permit was required. She apologized and said that anytime she sees someone with a gun it gives her cause for concern. She said that she has no way of knowing what that person’s intent is. I explained to her that I was one of the good guys. I told her about an experience my family and I had late one evening when we came home and interrupted a burglary in progress. This experience drove home the importance of being prepared at all times. She acknowledged that there are so many bad things going on in the world today that she probably should do the same thing. During our conversation her husband had numerous questions about what was required to legally purchase a firearm in NC. As we parted company they thanked us for the conversation over dinner and seemed genuinely appreciative of the information that was shared. The husband said he planned to apply for a purchase permit next week. All in all it was a positive encounter.

Nice first post Swindadd - welcome to the forum.

Keep on OCing and educating - nobody does it better than those that do so by example.
