We are now running on a new, and hopefully much-improved, server. In addition we are also on new forum software. Any move entails a lot of technical details and I suspect we will encounter a few issues as the new server goes live. Please be patient with us. As for the OP, didn't the FF desire that all men be educated and involved in a "spirited" debate of the issues?
That authority should be at all times viewed with suspicion?
That those who govern should constantly have a bit of fear of the governed?
Don't suppress the harmless rabble-rouser, applaud him/her. Governance of a free people should be confounding and frustrating or they're really not engaged.
HankT's postules (intentional) have provided grist for many a fine post from our friends in Virginia. The temporarily-departed AWDStyles has inspired many a poster to fact check, compare cites, and become better practiced at deflecting his particular style of argument.
Its just practice for the next council meeting or curious person on the street.

I see the problem with GENERAL DISCUSSION only.
The states forums tend to stay self moderated as do the technical threads.
As I have said before, I believe this is because most of the people who post in the states forums are planning on visiting, are planning on going to one of the meets and etc. Making the states forums IMO more liable for people in them to meet FTF. There is not a very good chance of that in GD. That's why I think GD should have ONE or TWO moderators, with powers only to lock threads that are way off topic, or that have degraded to poo flinging.
I am not asking for the powers that mods used to have, or the ones like on other forums.
Very limited scope.
