Lack of moderation

I feel that this forum is well self moderated on most of the sub forums, especially the state forums.

But in the general discussion forum, well, I find it to be almost a free for all.

I decided to see what it would take to get banned from another forum I frequent, and after calling someone a moron twice, I was banned for three days.

I would link the posts, except that they banned my IP and I can't even read the forum.

Anyway, I feel that this is ridiculous over moderation, but in my experience with the other forum, it is an extremely pleasant forum to read and trolling is nearly non existent.

I believe that one or two moderators for the general discussion forum, and a closer adherence to the rules would benefit the forum and the movement as a whole, while still allowing open and honest debate among members.

Just my honest opinion, and I am not pointing any fingers, merely making a point.

I think you learn a lot about a person by seeing how far he'll allow others to practice matters displeasing to himself.

One of the disadvantages of web forums is that moderation, a.k.a. censorship, is permitted. Much more honest Internet discussion occurs on USENET, but nobody knows how to configure a newsreader, anymore.

This board is so much less effective and honest than it could be. I endure so many warnings and have so many posts deleted that it's clear that gun owners are the source of the liberty-restricting mechanisms that wend their way through social intercourse and government, reemerging later as gun control.

Deriding an entire class of people based on the fact that they don't agree with your anarchist views does not exactly encourage open and honest discussion.

What I am speaking of is aiding in the removal of emotionally charged attacks on other posters.

Honest discussion based on ones opinions can be done without such unwelcome attacks.

And of course, if you so hate this group, why post here?

You are not obligated to do so, and quite obviously despite your many posts going against the wishes of the owners of the board, you have not been banned.

John and Mike's patience is far greater than my own.

Especially in late of your blatant, how do I put this, lack of respect for The LE community.

In a real life forum, moderation may not be required. On the Internet.....the relative anonymity means that people can and do become absolute jerks and run their mouths without any fear of reprisal. This is why moderation on Internet forums is necessary. Not to mention, that the equivalent of the Internet forum is a private residence where people are invited in to discuss their opinions so long as they follow certain guidelines. The First Amendment does not apply here, just like it does not apply to you in my residence. If I do not like what you have to say, or you refuse to abide by the rules of conduct, I can and would force you to leave. On the Internet, that equals banning.

I understand that John and Mike are both busy guys and can not always be on the forum to police and make sure things don't get out of hand. For those that have not been here to remember, there was an incident a while back where John and Mike decided that there would be no moderators, and only they would have any admin powers. While understandable, it's kind of like throwing the baby out with the bath water.....instead of punishing only those responsible for the incident and being done with it, they removed the rest of the moderator staff, which had done nothing wrong, from their positions. Ever since, this forum has degenerated into the back stabbing, troll fest you see today.

The bottom line is, if there is not some moderation brought back onto this forum, and quickly, the number of visitors to this site will continue to diminish, and the business of furthering open carry will never be attended to. There is a choice to be made.....either decide to trust some other members again with limited moderation capabilities, or lose this forum to trolling and the inability for people to act like adults on the Internet.

I remember that, and I've noticed that many who posted when I first joined this forum, have since left.

Maybe they still read, but they don't post. And at times, I can't say that I blame them.

Notice the state forums stay self moderated. I attribute this to the fact that we hold meet ups within the states, and therefore the restrictions of meeting face to face are brought into the picture.

Note that none of the trolls show up to any of the meets.

Note the civility that generally prevails in the state forums where the membership will frequently meet face to face.

Note the lack of civility prevalent in the general discussion forum, where it is very unlikely the members of the "discussion" will ever meet face to face.

It is only in the general discussion area that I would advocate moderation.

Some people have a noted lack of self control.

Welcome to the internet. Nearly all GDD forums are free-for-alls.They don'tpermit racism and outright bigotry, threats, or extreme vulgarity, just like this board. Aside from that, it is a free-for-all, as it should be.
