John and Mike, I agree that we have and still are making great strides in gun rights, buthow can you saythat the Republic is strongand the Constitution is sound? Look at what is happening around all of us. The courts as a whole and the federal government in general. Gun rights are not the only issue that need to be scrutinized when determiningif the Federation is on solid ground.

Sincethe focus of this forum is open carry and gun rights in general, I will do my best to stay on topic and refrain from getting involved in the many discussions that do stray off topic.

The Republic is lost and the Constitution is dead.

I'm not saying that I'mgoing to fly a plane into an IRS office or attack the Pentagon, I'm just saying.......open your eyes and look around a bit.

Leave it up to some of us to use a thread asking for us to keep our conversations relevant to the open carry movement to ramble on about the gub'mint, slander, threats, overturning the gub'mint, more slander, how my dog ate a rock, more rants about the gub'mint.............

That's what you get when you ask to keep on topic.

Here's my theory:

The government has secretly planted saboteurs in our midst to change the subject away from open carry. Therefore:

The people who talk about not trusting the government....are from the government.

Maybe the thread should have been locked from the beginning. :?

Our self-moderation seems dysfunctional at times. :(

I dunno, I think I've been a pretty good trooper all things considered. There are some things, however, with very anti-2A stuff hidden in them just below the surface, such as this health care nonsense which could conceivably be used to justify jacking the (Federally required) mandatory premiums up so high (because guns are a "health threat to children" as determined by the CDC) that owning a firearm will be too expensive. $5,000 is a bit much to pay to own a HiPoint, don't you think?

But when John says the Constitution is sound and the Republic is working, he is right. The staggering of Senate terms and the entire house being up for re-election every two years is a true marvel. It is nearly impossible to simultaneously corrupt more than 400 local campaigns, and two years is a short time to pull a fast shuffle. Meanwhiile, 2/3 of the Senators are NOT up for re-election, which ensures that political convulsions like the one we are fixing to have in November do not break the neck of the Body Politic. Two years gives folks like we are having problems with today obtain just enough rope to hang themselves with; and they are doing it in spades. I am astounded at how fast the currrent Administration and Congressional majorities have shown their true colors, and how flamboyantly, and how great the revulsion at them has become.

States are invoking the 10th Amendment right and left over firearms as well as other issues. Here in Virginia we have the antis having managed to install a "kill-bill" subcommittee to try and stop further "loosening" of the gun laws. The State senators who did this will pay with their political careers.

As to how effective we have been, I think it needs to be remembered that this site and forum has been the target of at least one and possibly two "denial of service" attacks.

Others here may disagree with this positive outlook, and I am not saying we can relax and stop fighting; as John says the struggle will continue always, because there are always those who would take away freedom. I believe the motto here is "A right unexercised is a right lost".

But, if you are a total Gloomy Gus who thinks all is lost, PM me, I can get you a great deal on black crepe ribbon to hang all over everything. I was gonna try to corner the market on black paint (for your windows) but the guy at the paint store said some guy in a helicopter pilot suit bought up every last drop he had.....:p

The punishment is having to deal with all us others who sometimes takes topics off topic.

I think we all do it, to some extent. I know I have.

But I do agree that the Republic is strong, just right now it has shakey leaders. We can fortify it by removing leaders that lie and try to take away our constitutional rights. The Constitution is sound for it still guarantees our rights, we just have to make sure more know it and are willing to stand up and defend it.

That said -- yes this is about OCing, and we need to remember to encourage each other to stand firm against the antis and to continue to wear our guns and support others who are fighting to have the same rights as we OCers have right now and to make sure our states dont take away our OC rights. :)

Im not.

I fear the government more than the criminals.
I fear that most of the people in government are criminals which frees me up mentally to just fear the criminals.
