Sometimes, that's the only recourse left. But frankly, I'd rather cut off my left leg, than have to beg someone. It would be less painful.

The worst part, is when you go to pickup your kids from school, on the last day before Christmas vacation, and the principle comes out and gives boxes and bags with gifts of clothing and toys and games for your children. All you can do is say "Thank you," and try not to break down into tears in front of your kids. At that point, I'd rather die. But you can't, so you carry on as best you can.

I know the feeling, I used to live in a car, then the car got totaled, I was jealous of that car. Until you have been there, you just don't know.

or you could try harder and supply a good live for your family.
I have been unemployed before and I understand times are tough but there is always a way to make money.

if you just quit and say im going on welfare that is just pathetic
And sometimes, in spite of your best efforts, you still have no other choice. I have been unemployed, and underemployed. And sometimes, there just is no other way.

Not everyone's situation is the same. Sometimes there are health reasons and sometimes, there are just no other opportunities.

Very true. For some people it may be easy to find a new job, for others it isn't. For instance, I can't work in fast food restaurants. I have a bad back and can't stand for very long. I wish I could, I'd work at Taco Bell. :)

The other thing, I'm 54 now, and that also proves to be a stumbling block in getting hired. And in spite of years of experience and an A+ certification, I've not been able to get back into the technology industry. So I'm stuck working a crappy job as a security guard, for crappy money from a crappy agency. Assuming of course, that the surgeon tells me tomorrow that I can go back to work.

There is a myth in this country that you can start from zero, and work your way up to wealth. As with anything else, there are rare exceptions to this rule. When you are homeless, you can't get clean very easily, so you stink, you can't get a job when you stink, and look dirty. Then there is the problem of an address, it is illegal to fake an address, and without one, you can't get a job. There are payroll and tax issues, and then there's the company itself. One potential employer I had when living out of a car in South Carolina said something like this to me:, "I would love to hire you, I believe that you want to work, but if you decide to runn off with a drill or something, I don't have a place to send the police to". Whether you are homeless, or just poor, there are so many "glass ceilings", that very few ever get out.

What if it happens to you Beerme? Seriously though, anyone can be broken through life's circumstances.

{sarcasm}Oh, it wouldn't dare happen to him.{/sarcasm} I said the same thing about open heart surgery too. Look at me now, nice scar down the center of my chest, and a hospital bill that probably exceeds Lansing's budget. :)

I guess I shouldn`t have tried this, NOTHING HAS CHANGED. Every one keeps getting off track on EVERYTHING in the forums. I can`t get even a small side job due to a family medical condition. My Mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung/Bone Cancer, And had a Hip Replacement recently so she is very limited on daily activities she can be involved in. That is when I am unable to take any kind of work, My Dad does a a 2nd shift position, But that is just barely getting us by. And we will have to wait till next year to even think about Disability or any other assistance from the state.

Disregard any help asked of anyone, I have already got the money from someone else that I am sure a lot of you people on here know, Just don`t see from him anymore, And it is a shame. He is a really DAMN GOOD GUY.

But again thanks for getting so off subject, I didn`t miss a thing while I was gone since last year.

Highly unlikely, I have always maintained enough extra savings to get me through at least six months of the necessities,(rent, gas, food, not cpl class) and even during that I have savings in safe deposit boxes and in the form of short term CD's that I can utilize if needed. I also have a wide skill set so if I do end up unemployed I have a few other traits that I know I can get into working jobs within one month.

So yes one goal of my life currently is to up that from a 6 month to a year and a half plan.

If you actually come with a plan to stay safe financially you will do just fine, but if you quite your job or get fired with no savings then that is exactly where you will end up, in the gutter. It does not help to make irresponsible choices with your money such as paying for part of a cpl class when you can not afford the whole thing, it seems that there are simply better options to use that money one.

Wally, unfortunately, that is the nature of the beast when it comes to internet forums. Sorry if I aided in that aspect. I wish I could have helped out, but I've been off work since October 10th, and I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. All we have coming in is my wife's disability check, and what she gets for our 2 sons as well. I am glad that someone was willing and able to help out. Goes to show that some of us have a heart, and are willing to help if they are able.

I wish you good luck and will keep your mother in my prayers.

No need to keep kicking him while he`s down. Please stop, thanks

Wally im sorry to hear about your Mom, I myself had to take care of my father a couple of years ago when he had cancer. It was a very stressfull time for the whole family.
I hope you stick around here on the forums, you have come a long ways in the last year.

Beerme, I am sorry you feel this way. I was the same way when there was another CPL fund going on just a year ago, And I realize I was acting like a child. I am only 21, So I am very limited on previous work experience. It took a very dramatic life changing event to finally get me to mature, And make me a better man because of it.

I do appreciate everyone that would help out if they were able to, And I am thankful that there are people to stand behind me emotionally as well.

Wally I am adding you and mom to my prayer list, along with Big Al.

I wish I could do more.
