First day back in the OC saddle in a while.

OCed at Freedom Firearms in Battle Creek and On Target, Starbucks on W. Main, & Erbelli's Pizza on Portage Rd., all in Kalamazoo. No comments and no issues at all. Just like before.

OCed so far today in Battle Creek at Wood Bros. Automotive, my dentist's office (Dr. Earl Gaball), and Family Fare in Pennfield.

Nothing was said anyplace I went and I know the hygenist saw my pistol because the chair adjustment controls were right next to my right hip.

All as it should be.

OCed at Walmart in Livonia, no problems no issues.

A middle aged black man approached me and asked was a I a police officer at which point I promptly replied, "No." He then disclosed that he has a CPL and asked "I can just come in here like that? while pointing at my guns. I told him "Yes." He replied he didnt know that and had left his gun in his vehicle. He thanked me and walked away.

It didnt surprise me that he didnt know about open carry, what bothered me most was that he didnt know it was lawful to carry it in a place as pedestrian as Walmart. I worried what other misinformation he had been given as well as other places where it WASNT lawful to carry and how he might go there concealing and not know better. Only a few seconds had passed, I turned my cart around and sought him out. I handed him a tri-fold and gave him a crash course on where he could OC with a CPL while reviewing some of the places that were absolute no go-zones. He had his small son or grandson with him. He seemed to be a well-intentioned man and thus I wanted him to be able to protect himself and his loved ones whenever and wherever it was lawful to do so.

Once again folks this is where OC trumps CC because this encounter wouldve never happened had I been CCing. Finally, that citizen would have continued in his ignorance and God only knows where that may have led him - prison or an early grave.

I usually carry 2 of those and 2 MSP LU#86 in my back pocket in case anyone has any questions or wants more info. I rarely get asked about OC any more.

Did I read this correctly? Therefore, a CPL holder may openly carry a pistol in Michigan's pistol free zones.” Sgt. Thomas Deasy, Michigan State Police Executive Resource Section

So is this stating that I can OC in a pistol free zone? That doesn't seem correct.

Had dinner tonight at Johns pizzaria in Davison. Hostess noticed my side arm right away as I walked in the door, nothing was said. Quite busy too with a good mix of families with young kids and the "older" crowd. NO ONE seemed to care one bit. Had the recorder going just in case though. Great food there too. I highly recomend it.

Open carried 3 weeks ago (OK, slow to post I know but I've been lurking here for some time) while I got a coffee at the Starbucks at the Village of Rochester Hills. My 4&6 year old kids were with me. No negative comments, but one lady customer (about 65 yrs old, I'd guess) gave me a look like I had just shi* myself. I was very friendly to the staff, and they were very friendly to me. I gave them a good tip ($1 tip on a $2 cup of coffee, lol) just to make sure I left them with a good impression.

Also OC'd at Meijer on Adams Rd. in Rochester Hills a couple weeks ago while shopping with my 14 yr old. Nobody said anything, but several customers were noticeably staring at me when I walked by them.

Welcome to the forums. Glad to see that your first experiences went well, as they should. As you saw, not everyone will warmly greet you, but rarely will they say anything. make sure you are well versed in the law, always have a recorder on your person and activated, and if you do not yet have your CPL I highly recommend getting it as it makes the process of OC much less complex.

I OC at that Meijer and Walmart a lot. I always get looks and only one time someone said something, but overall I feel like no one there knows that OC is legal.

Had my CPL for a little over two years now. Seems to me like law enforcement looks for any opportunity to go after open carriers. Hmmm, what a surprise, if we have less crime we need fewer police officers. Funny how that works...

That's what's known as a "conflict of interest" folks!

That Wal-Mart gets a little shady around 10:30-11:00pm. Been in there carrying concealed at that time and felt like I was in a "Boyz in the Hood" sequel because of the folks around me...

I probably should have been carrying openly, because concealed carry provides NO DETERRENT to the possibility of someone jumping me in the parking lot.

Went to the RV show at the Birch Run Expo center. I looked to see if the facility was posted and did not see anything. We were there early and it was cool out so I had a jacket on and therefore I was concealed when we went past security (he was helping taking tickets). It warmed up in there pretty fast so I took off the jacket off and was open carry from then on, for about 3 more hrs. I had no issues, no comments, I did not see any odd looks my way, not even one single question, and I had the tri-folds at the ready to give out just in case.

yeah, due to work I can only do my shopping around that time. I always OC there that way if any shady "people" feel like grabbing someone's wallet they know that mine is out of the plan, if you know what I mean. After my umpteenth time going there I think the employees started to recognize me and Maverick (my sidearm).

Ha, ha! I haven't given any of my carry guns names, but now I'm thinking maybe I should! :)
