this weekend

OC'ed this weekend at Walmart in Rochester. No looks or anything except one young dumba$$ employee who saw my sidearm and said "WHOA! you gotta piece? damn!" so I looked at him and said "yeah." and walked away. Other than that nothing to exciting.

Still waiting to run into another OCer

they have no written policy against it, but i open carried there once for over an hour before they asked me to cover up or put the gun in my care. i said, "no thanks, i'll show myself out, and let your manager know they've lost a customer."
they said they are OK with CC.

Well I guess I'll just have to try it out... lucky I finally got my CPL so if needed then I'll be prepared to use it but if they as me to CC then I'll probably leave too. I just want to go to the Apple store but there is no other Apple store near me.

I think it is absolutely charming when certain posters/users have no compunction about violating their own call (interpretation) to mind the rule about off topic posts i.e. making small talk. You were quick to complain when someone else did it. What is the difference now?

Truth be known, I think a little of that is a good thing. It builds inter-personal relationships and lightens the tedium. Most often when it become excessive or redirects a thread then the rule is applied - so no I'm not criticizing your post this time. I'm chuckling at the sameness of the difference.

OC at DIA

OC'd at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Only three people said anything, two were negative. No real problems, though. I was there for about an hour. At one point, a volunteer floor monitor and a security guard were nearby. The monitor asked if I was finding everything OK. She was very pleasant and informative. The talk led to me mentioning I live in Oakland County. The security guard said "the open carriers are coming from Oakland county" and "the open carriers are causing problems". I asked in a most pleasant voice, "What problems are they causing?" The guard just walked away. She probably sensed she was about to be exposed as a fool by me.

The monitor didn't seem to mind me, but did ask why I didn't leave it in my car. I told her it doesn't do any self-defense good there, but also I would feel terrible if it was stolen from the car and used illegally. She seemed to accept that logic, certainly didn't have a rebuttal for it.

Later, I walked by the same monitor and another lady. I asked for direction to the cafeteria. Again the monitor was very pleasant and helpful. The other lady asked why I was carrying. "Self-defense", I replied. She said, "Well, you have that right, but it makes me nervous so I'm going to walk away." Ummm . . . ok. I looked at the monitor and, though she had no expression on her face, I imagine she was mentally rolling her eyes at the lady.

Finished up by eating in the cafeteria. Yummy food!

Obviously, it would be nice for all staff at the DIA to get VERY accustomed and desensitized to OC'ing guests. So, I encourage OC'ers to visit the DIA. It's free for Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb residents.

nice! i'm sure security was briefed after i left based on my discussions with the chief of security. i don't think they will ever "endorse" it, and they may continue to "ask people nicely" to put their guns in their car, but i doubt anyone will get hassled the way i did after i showed that i was polite, yet firm, and not willing to compromise my position. it sounded as though they'd never come across someone that didn't comply with their request to lock it up.
let me know next time you go, maybe we can make it a group event :dude:
