I got their wine offering in the mail, I was looking at the paper and printing and how wondering how much money it must have cost NRA members for them to send that out.

I am torn on the NRA, I have been for several years now. They piss away alot of money on useless crap IMO!

But! they have been helpful in keeping our 2A rights from going away.

Maybe if we get at least 10% of this states legal gun owners to join the NRA, we might be a loud enough voice for them to recognize our wants. Until then I do not feel any attention is going to be given to the occasional letter from us. We just are not big enough to be ofany interest to them.

For what it's worth. In my opinion for a crummy $35 a year there is value in supporting the NRA. Lets face it money talks B.S. walks. If you just up and quit you surely have no voice in the NRA. On the other hand numerous members contacting an organization has effect. So from now on I will return every postage paid begging envelope with a letter enclosed. They're paying the postage...What can it hurt? I have attached a PDF with a basic letter. Print it and send it how tough can that be.

Re: Request for Donation.

Dear Chris W. Cox:

I fully support and appreciate the NRA-ILA efforts to protect my second amendment rights. Unfortunately I don’t see enough NRA-ILA activity and support in my home state of Wisconsin. It is very disappointing that you never became involved in the recent Brad Krause case in West Allis Wisconsin or the Jesus Gonzalez in West Milwaukee.

I will continue to keep my membership active but until I begin so see more NRA support in my home state I will not be able to contribute to you further.

There is still opportunity for you to get involved in the previously mentioned cases. Doing so would go a long way to gaining my future financial support.

Best regards,

I like that approach, tomm--- it puts the NRA on notice that they are expected to do something meaningful to merit the donations they solicit.

tomm1963;

Good letter. I would suggest removing the word enough from your second sentence. The word enough gives the NRA an escape by suggesting it has been active in Wisconsin. Removing the word enough putsthe NRAon the defensive to tell where it has been active. Whether or not it will is a question.

This address was taken from my most recent paid envelope NRA-ILA solicitation.

I guess the point is that it doesn't cost you anything to send these envelopes back with a letter inside. It costs the NRA. IF enough people do it, I'm talking hundreds or thousands, then the cost of the wasted postage alone begins to get attention. :?

Just my two cents, but I think the letter should contain the words "open carry". The peeons who will read this letter when returned are likely not aware of the Gonzalez or Krause cases at all and the idea may not go far. Provide a 2 sentence synopsis of the cases:

Brad Krause was unlawfully detained, arrested, and had his property confiscated while doing yard work with a holstered pistol on his hip. He was vidicated when a judge found him not guilty of disorderly conduct and his property was recently returned.

Jesus Gonzalez was unlawfully detained, arrested, and had his property confiscated while loading items into a truck at a parking lot after open carrying a holstered firearm inside the store. He was never charged with any crime yet his property remained in police custody for 20? months.

It is imperative that the "peeons" see these synopsis' to understand what is going on here.

Attached is an email exchange I had with the NRA-ILA concerning the Brad Krause case.

Dear Mr. XXXXXXXXX

Thanks for contacting NRA-ILA. I apologize for not getting back with you sooner.

NRA-ILA was never contacted by Krause or his attorney. In order for our legal services to be available in a case like this, our office must be contacted. NRA-ILA has a policy of not soliciting legal assistance.

I will be forwarding your message to NRA-ILA public relations for the answer to the second part of your question.

Please let us know if you have further questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Krista Cupp
NRA-ILA Grassroots Division

Your refusal to get involved in the crucial Wisconsin West Allis case involving Brad Krause and his right to open carry in public is disgusting. No pledge of support. No anouncement in News releases. It appears that when it comes to gun rights issues the NRA is only interested if it serves the NRA concealed carry agenda. Consider my long time membership cancelled. Also consider me an anti-NRA spokesperson.

"Not soliciting legal assistance" indicates some confusion. I might have expected 'does not offer legal assistance.' Could it be that the inmates are running this asylum too, along with Obongo's Obamination?

And for the NRA-ILA to brag on 4 million subscribers having purchased the most powerful lobbyists that money can buy for the "Grassroots Division" is nonsensical.

The NRA Emperor has no clothes.

You are right. Money does talk.

I'll return every letter/solicitation with a promise that when I see them get involved with open carry in wisconsin I'll THENre-instate/renew my membership.

No more enabling. If you ask me, sending $35 and a letter sends a message that you'll continue to support the NRA while you beg them for their support. I'm sure your letter will go in the garbage and the $35 in the bank. How motivated are they going to be to change when you'll send money even if they don't? That defies logic (to me)

I've been a member for over 10 years. I've already demonstrated my support. Now its time for some reciprocation before I show any more.

If they want my $35 they have an easy easy path to do so. One email blast. One feature in their magazine on the Open Carry issue in Wisconsin. SOMETHING... ANYTHING. Show mesomething before I give another dime. The truth is I DON'T think they support open carry.

The 4 million members is a figment of someone's imagination. With every membership the NRA gives a subscription to one of three magazines. The total circulation of the three magazines was 2.7 million last year. Somewhere 1.3 million members are missing or not getting their magazines.

That may be the case but they were certainly advised of the case and its increasing local press by me. (I'm a member of NRA & a couple of other orgs and make no apologies for it; there is value in my mind to that, my decision. Any debate about thatwill be a waste of the respondent's air.)

That said, theyDO need to be taken to task for not being more pro-active in these things. There web-presence is often severely behind the power curve from a timeliness of intel perspective as well. Fewer TV safari videos of staff in Tanzania and more timely acceptance of news sources from around the country with follow-up action.

In this particular situation I am only the messenger. During my 40 years as a NRA member I was never of the opinion that it had to be invited into any situation affecting gun rights.

Contact NRA director Tom King: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=137&t=827246

Also, Charles Cotton is an NRA director, and he runs this site: http://www.texaschlforum.com/

If you're not happy with what the NRA is doing, here's a possibility:
1) Send a check to Gun Owners of America, and keep a copy of the check. You might include a letter to Larry Pratt requesting support for Open Carry, or more exposure for gun rights in your area, whatever.
2) Send a photocopy of the check to the NRA with a letter explaining why you didn't vote for the NRA with your wallet. Send copies to Tom King and Charles Cotton.

It doesn't help that the NRA has people like Joaquin Jackson on the BOD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSGySNLyACE
