Firearm ownership rates by states. Not too surprised but Alaska has the highest rate.

Hmm?
Michigan, Vermont and North Carolina tied (almost) at 28.something%. Seems odd to me.
Hawaii at 45.1% seems really odd to me.

I'm not sure how much trust I will place in this survey. Since most states don't have gun registration and private sales are allowed in most states, how can even try to estimate these numbers?

Interestedly, another site has different stats on ownership with Texas leading ownership...

https://www.statista.com/statistics/215655/number-of-registered-weapons-in-the-us-by-state/

oh dear...
The stats are bogus. They have Ohio with 173,315 registered weapons. Ohio has about 350,000 concealed carry license holders. I would bet each one of the 350,000 concealed carry license holders owns a gun. This number does not take into account all the other guns the are not "registered," what ever that means.

Darn, I guess I didn’t think alloutdoor was a statistics gathering group...

oh wait, from the OP’s cited article...

‘But it does attempt to sum up gun ownership by taking data from a “gun ownership rate assessment” titled “Gun ownership and social gun culture,” published in 2015.

While Colorado's rate of 34.3% is in the ball park, I understand the nature of this study involves a lot of estimation.

However, this is disclosed in the study's methodology, which states:

Here is a look at per capita weapons data, based on the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, and 2013 data from the U.S. Census.

While the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record is the only accessible list of its kind, it is not all-inclusive. NFA firearms only include the categories regulated by The National Firearms Act of 1934: machine guns, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, suppressors, destructive devices like bombs and grenades, concealable devices with the ability to discharge a shot through the energy of an explosive, and any firearm with a bore over half an inch that has not been determined to have a legitimate sporting use.

But some guns fall outside of this scope, and many aren't registered, meaning surveys on gun ownership come to different conclusions.

It's OK that we don't have highly accurate numbers. Decent approximations are all we need. Whether 80 million gun owners, 104 million, or 120 million, the point remains the same: We are not few in number!

Yeah, 42.7% of the population in Ky. owns a gun. Ridiculous! Maybe 42.7% of the population in Ky. CARRIES a gun. Or 42.7% of the ky. population has a gun in their car. Are they considering minors in the "population"or just adults?

About a decade ago, when I first began looking into firearms statistics, I imagined a lot more people owned firearms here in Colorado (80%) than actually do (about 48%), and that a lot more people carried (50%) than actually do (about 18%). Of those, less than half routinely carry on a regular basis.

It's a bit difficult to pin down exact numbers, but ballpark figures get the point across.

So you think that 42% of the people in Kentucky actually carry a firearm on a full-time basis?

You folks did exactly what I hoped you would do. You picked it apart, found some flaws, and provided additional links with more data.
Thanks.
I questioned the results as well as I don't do surveys either.
