Truth! Too many assume the weapon makes the man, when in reality, the man makes the weapon.

But, without a warrior mindset (and good judgement), a man with a gun is just a MWAG.
That isn't close to what he said.

You are presenting a false dichotomy. If I were to say "If your lunch isn't a hamburger, it is a chicken sandwich", I would match your statement.

One can be an armed citizen, and be neither 'warrior' or 'MWAG.'

You missed my point. Either you leave the house with the mindset that you WILL use it, if needed, or you're just carrying extra weight. Perhaps I wasn't clear....

Then why did you even start this thread?!?!?

You knew before you left the house you wouldn't do anything to help. So Why bother us in asking what you should have done when you already knew you'd do nothing?!?!?

Either you weren't clear, or you presented a different statement than the one you just gave.

"Warrior" -or- "MWAG" is not analogous to "will use it if needed," -or- 'just carrying extra weight.'

You presuppose "warrior" is analogous to 'will use it if needed,' when that isn't what you were describing. Providing for self-defense isn't the same as providing for defense of unknown persons, especially without knowing who is victim and who is aggressor. You seem to follow a worldview that places a person as either a community protector, or as a milquetoast who isn't worthy of defending their own self and/or family. That IS a false dichotomy.

You received it clearly, then. In my world view, there are two camps. Either noblesse oblige, or selfish people. Obviously, you have to pick the right side; training & careful observation will help. My opinion, take it or leave it. Your results may vary, but you will never, ever convince me to stand aside while men do evil.

Then you believe life is black and white, and that is a false vision. The failure is in placing your vision of it upon others, and pointing them out as 'less than' because they do not choose as you would. THAT is what you are doing that isn't correct. In other words, denigrating others for their choice.

Black / White, Right / Wrong. Its simply my opinion. You are free to ignore it, as you have pointed out previously.

I base my world view on the ancient writings. I have a moral obligation to render aid where it is within my power.

Perhaps selfish was too harsh. I'll go look for my thesaurus for a kinder & gentler word.

Feel free to select any one of the following that you find less offensive:

Synonyms: egocentric, egoistic, egoistical, egomaniacal, egotistic, egotistical, greedy*, hoggish, mean, mercenary, miserly, narcissistic, narrow, narrow-minded, out for number one, parsimonious, prejudiced, self-centered, self-indulgent, self-interested, self-seeking, stingy, ungenerous, wrapped up in oneself

Oh, now that's harsh:lol:

wrightme is just expressing his opinion about my opinion of his opinion of my opinion of his opinion of my opinion.

I wouldn't call him a troll; he's entitled to his opinion of my opinion of his opinion of my opinion, and so on, ad infinitum.

Oh, lets call the whole thing off:D He's never going to change my morality, and I'm not going to change his.

To each his own. If he leaves me alone, I'll leave him alone. Truce.

you got to be kidding me...

watching this pompous and pious discussion degenerate from the original poster's query has been quite the enlightening experience.

one, i must point out, which has been quite entertaining, worthless on information of late, but never the less entertaining...

PS: according to wikipedia: (quote) In general, an opinion is a subjective belief, and is the result of emotion or interpretation of facts. An opinion may be supported by an argument, although people may draw opposing opinions from the same set of facts. Opinions rarely change without new arguments being presented. However, it can be reasoned that one opinion is better supported by the facts than another by analysing the supporting arguments.[1] In casual use, the term opinion may be the result of a person's perspective, understanding, particular feelings, beliefs, and desires. It may refer to unsubstantiated information, in contrast to knowledge and fact-based beliefs. (unquote)

Someone who gets it!

Glad you were entertained; I've been having a ball with this, myself!

I am always amazed at how far some folks will go, with a little 'encouragement'.:D

It isn't about selfish or not, or about how YOU choose to live your life. It is about how you project your opinion and choice onto others, and badmouth them for not acting as you would. Absent that, it is simply opinion. With that, it is denigrating others.
