Bersa Thunder .380 with 90 grain Federal Hydra Shok rounds. Agreed wth some of the other posts. Stopping power is based on making a well placed shot and having the BG bleed out and the blood pressure drop so far that they pass out.

.38 Special at the moment, until I can afford a new Kimber CDP II Compact, then it will be .45.

It's nice to see the caliber wars continue unabated on a gun related forum. Isn't America grand?

That, or shoot the BG in the bladder and watch him spring a leak.

Ooh, those PA-63s are stupefyingly accurate!
I am told it has to do with the fixed barrel.

But, yes. It is pretty accurate...but it hurts...horribly.

I just replaced the recoil springs to a 13#...and that worked better, but still causes unbelievable pain.

The best caliber is the one that you have in your hand at the moment. Enough said.

Nice job... but you DID have one stray...

Do better next time please...
I knew I slapped that one round as soon as I fired it, but considering that I shot 32 rounds with 3 reloads in a little over 20 seconds, can you please forgive me? :D
"With 3 reloads..." that is damned fine shooting! I can easily throw better than a round a second accurately, but not with 3 reloads!

I used to carry a .357, but switched to 9mm. Sure the .357 has a better rate of 1 shot stops, but realistically nothing is a guaranteed 1 shot stop, and I'm not going to shoot once and wait and see what happens so carrying 15+1 offsets the lower power for me. I'd probably go for a 10mm before a .45, if you're going to go big, go all the way.

Most assuredly, one shot stops are more wishful thinking than anything else. Back in 1989, two WV state troopers shot a drunken suspect 12 times with their .357magnum; said suspect lived to them both with a .30-06 rifle and then he offed himself.

Shooting until the attacker stops attacking is a better tactic.

.45 acp...

only because .50 BMG won't fit in a holster 'n 20mm HEI/APT/API has too much recoil.

I've got 2 pistols for carrying (once my Tn permit comes). Primarily, I'll have a SA .45 with 5.5 barrel. I've been target shooting with the Long Colt .45 255 gr. cowboy rounds, but I may laod up Super X STHP Long colts 220 grthat according to the stats has a higher muzzle V and E than the .45 ACP @ 920 fps and 423 ft pds.

The other pistol is a Mak IJ-70 that takes the 9x18mm FMJ.

9mm (Taurus PT-92) for me, that's what I bought as a plinker/carry gun. Hopefully upgrading to a 1911 before too much longer.

Currently loaded w/ Federal Hydra-shoks

The low recoiling 9mm will let me put 2-3 holes in your head while you're still trying to regain a sight picture from the excessive recoil of your .45, with which you missed your first shot because you couldn't afford enough ammo to practice regularly.

I was obviously being sarcastic, but that's some damn good shooting.
Thank you kind sir!

I'm considering getting a USFA .30 calSA revolver w/7.5" barrel. It uses the same round as the M1 Carbine. I already have the carbine and it would cut down on the need for stocking various cal ammo.
