I went to my first city council meeting. This is Torrance California.

Torrance police were the ones who, while protecting an LAPD officials home, rammed and shot the truck of an innocent white man going surfing.

Just a block away LAPD shot the two women delivering newspapers. The city of LA settled and paid each woman $2.4 million.

However, Torrance didn't want to pay up. In fact, 3 days ago, a newspaper article came out where the police not only said they weren't going to settle, but he BLAMED the victim of the shooting.

In the official lawsuit papers, the city of Torrance actually blames the victim and says he is at fault.

So me and my partner go to our first city council meeting.

Here is the video.

There has been a change in behavior by the self-titled "patriot."

He hasn't stopped starting thread titles with "I" (or first lines of posts), but he does now, more often, use the implicit subject instead of an explicit subject. However, that subject is still "I".

He is still his own favorite subject. He is just trying not to be so obvious about it.

Didn't work.

The only comment I see from Eye now is......"this comment cant be seen because the jerk ward is on you ignore list"

For what its worth.....today the city of Torrance DOUBLED their settlement offer to the victim of the police shooting.

The mayor challenged us to come back and we most certainly will be coming back every Tuesday !!!

Well the shooting is going to cost the city big dollars.

But what did you real think the city was going to say facing a multi million dollar law suit.

Why did you bring your problems into the into the issue they have nothing to do with the shooting just muddies the water.

It is always best when addressing and asking questions of politicians to keep the question simple and to the point. Adding information that is not relevant to the question just gives them the opportunity to change the subject and avoid it.

For others going to meetings here are some ideas, it pays to dress appropriately , remove head gear, talk respectfully and get the question simple and on subject.

The person speaking wasn't me.

However, do you make good points. Our decision to attend was totally spur of the moment.

I do disagree on your point about dressing appropriatly and talking respectfully. I think its always important to never elevate government above the people. Government is nothing special and it doesn't deserve any special respect. In fact, I think its always important to bring down government to the level of the people because government is supposed to be by the people for the people.

If you notice on the video how the city council seating area is about 8 feet higher than everyone else. This is deliberate. Its meant to show that government is bigger and more powerful than the people. That government is above the people. its a master/servant symbol.

Its not only what the powers to be think, it is what the other citizens, media think about you all so that is important.

Making a good impression on all goes along ways to getting your point across.

Looking, speaking, acting and professional has a strong impact on making your case.

As shown one does not have unlimited time to address bodies like this.

Having a prepared stated that is short and to the point that address's the issued is a lot stronger then not.

(I think I would have said something like this.

Mr. Mayor, and respective council members.

I am (name inserted) a resident of the City of Torrance (gives you standing)

I bring before you a matter of legal and monetary concern.

On Feb 7th 2013 a Mr. David Pardue was stopped by city of Torrance police officers in a case of mistaken identify.

During that stop Mr. Pardue's person and property were damage.

Mr. Mayor and respective council members you have the authority and obligation to see that this matter is resolved.

What are you going do as individuals and as a whole to see that Mr. Pardue is made whole.)

End of statement wait quietly for the answer

Not only does the above statement gets that facts out it places personal responsibility on the mayor, each member and the council as a whole to solve the problem.

No matter what you think the way you look the actions you take and the words you use have a great impact on the case you are trying to make.

It is pie in the sky to think otherwise maybe after you have attended and addressed many such meetings you well come to understand the impact of such things.

Mr. Mayor, who were the fraidy cat cops that riddled that dudes truck? Their names please. We will learn their names eventually, so, to save time and grief, just out those POSs right now and we can move on to writing really big checks. Those fraidy cat uniformed goons are running loose on the streets of our city even as we speak and the safety of the voting public is in peril. You are the mayor, control your PD or we will keep returning to bring this subject up at every meeting and we will keep this subject in the public eye. Trash talking government is protected and trash talking politicians and bureaucrats is protected. You want this incident to be left in the trash heap of history? Then do your darn job and fire those fraidy cat idiots and get your PD under control. Oh, what's your twitter handle again?
