Good grief ! Talk about going in circles.
Either the cop missed with the Taser or the perp was so hyped up on something, it kept him going.
Listen to that cops voice when the female officer shows up. He sounds like the crybaby character Bill Pullman played in "Aliens".

Put yourself in his position after killing a guy. Six shots fired and 4 were center mass. There was no saving him. He has been on the force only 2.5 years.

Or firearms instructor...since there was prior history with LE regarding the suspect‘s known mental heath history the rookie could’ve stayed in or retreated back to his save SAFE (sry for missing typo initially) haven, his vehicle, and called for assistance to handle a “disturbance call”!

no instead, fire instructor, the rookie ventured out anticipating the suspect would yield and heed and immediately obey the kind LE’s Hollared and unlawful orders to stop!

if a citizen hollars stop to approaching LE(s) waving taser/batons/firearms at the, do those order get immediately heeded - think not!

guess this here is what‘s called in realty - a learning experience which turned out badly for both involved!

NOBODY wants to take a person's life it is not the easiest thing to live with and you will question yourself million of times over if you could have done something else and be guilt ridden for the rest of your life I know as I had friends that had to make that call and one even took his own life because of not being able to live with the feeling SO before you think he is a cry baby walk a mile or better a block in his shoes .

sorry regarding the loss of your acquaintance and their inability to get benefit from MH oversight...

unfortunately, one of the main consideration(s) why LE agencies concentrate on recruiting/hiring discharged/retired service members as there is already a mental ‘resilience’ to taking of lives.

please realize the psychometric instruments administered to LE recruits are designed to root out mental “cognitive” problem(s) but mislead those who are not in touch of the perceptions of reality after playing ”shoot & kill” video games!

alas, perhaps Officer Porter immediately realized his choices in this life/death situation and he failed in his mind to actually “serve & protect” his community!

Wish I felt that way after shooting someone. I think your approach is a more productive one.

People shouldn't put so much stock in feeling for their attacker. When you put them down, they asked for it.

When mental health issues are in play...they truly didn’t asked for it...

that our society has failed to assure these vulnerable individuals safety within our communities is a disgrace, only exacerbated by LE agencies not training their personal appropriate modalities to deal nonviolently with a citizen’s psychological disturbances/emergencies!!

multiple people hollaring commands, lights blinking/flashing is enough to rattle non psychotic citizens, then there is the ever handy tazer/service firearm being used way to quickly cuz the individual do what the responder(s) were screaming...

ya they asked for it, now didn’t they!

Send a social worker...they are trained to deal with vulnerable individuals...if I am faced with a vulnerable individual and a social worker does show up, before I am forced to react to a threat, I'll not shed a tear for the outcome that transpires...nor will I intervene on the behalf of the social worker...I will be a good witness...

It is not really that difficult to recognize a psychotic episode from someone just being an a$$. And it really does not take a lot of training to deal with violent episodes. The problem is most police officers don't have the mental bent in dealing with such mental psychotic episodes. Their training does not include compassion. Compassion could get them killed. Many large police forces have trained negotiators, but that does not help then a cop over reacts.
