Anytime I log on to get information about Open Carry, I'm swamped in arguments and user-bashing. No longer can I log on and learn or find new stories or get quality information or feedback. This forum is turning into a pissing contest. Threads are extending to multiple pages filled with users arguing and bickering back and forth about whose opinion is better.
Once in a while is understood. But to go on for page after page after page or nonstop bickering is just getting annoying.
I have been active here since the inception, and on PDO before OCDO. I believe that all well found open carry questions have been discussed and resolved, and are available to be reviewed through use of the search function.
OCDO is a virtue signaling site and profit center. Virtue signaling is effective ONLY within one’s social circle of common values.
An illustration may be the difficulty in identifying a fact differentiated from opinion, here it would seem that only black letter law is fact, but even that is quibbled.
Hammer6, you are correct, as is Doug regarding the resolution of the majority OC issues [yes, even down to members finessing the letters of the law to assure understanding]
Hammer6 & Doug, et al., if you review olde OCDO threads you will find these same long winded finessed discussions which worked nuances of such important aspects such as ‘can i leave a cartridge chambered’ or ‘should put the safety on and leave hammer back on my 1911’ or ‘is a revolver or pistol better for SD purposes’ ad nauseam.
During these discussions everyone posted their unsubstantiated “opinions” based on their Pappy’s or their BLET/Military, or what a neighbour four years ago taught them. Unsubstantiated info would/could/might get someone into judicial trouble so members got savvy and wanted viable background to the information presented, not just the legalese.
Further, look at ‘new’ internet profit centers who now provide info on SD techniques, ammo, which firearm is best, etc. these didn’t exist when this forum began so OCDO provided a viable national platform for this country’s citizens to get reliable information.
Finally, OCDO was one of the first specific forums and now there has been a proliferation of ‘new’ state/national level forums, usacarry/defensivecarry/N/Swest/each firearm manufacturer forum/ad nauseam, on the internet.
A lot of these are owned by a Canadian org and have instituted strict moderator mandates, e.g. the high road does not tolerate any discussion off the preconceived established party line(s) even tho that line is might be years olde or changed by law or convention so the moderators react swiftly and unceremoniously if members challenge that line and individuals find themselves ban’d.
Perfect ~ nope; bickering ~ yep; opinionated ~ yepper; do members still post BS ~ yepper; do members still whine & get their feelings hurt when called out for insistently post BS ~ you betcha!
But except in the extreme BS threads, as Doug stated readers/members unequivocally get, for the most part, substantiated and reliable information.
