This forum is getting tired...

Anytime I log on to get information about Open Carry, I'm swamped in arguments and user-bashing. No longer can I log on and learn or find new stories or get quality information or feedback. This forum is turning into a pissing contest. Threads are extending to multiple pages filled with users arguing and bickering back and forth about whose opinion is better.

Once in a while is understood. But to go on for page after page after page or nonstop bickering is just getting annoying.

I have been active here since the inception, and on PDO before OCDO. I believe that all well found open carry questions have been discussed and resolved, and are available to be reviewed through use of the search function.

OCDO is a virtue signaling site and profit center. Virtue signaling is effective ONLY within one’s social circle of common values.

An illustration may be the difficulty in identifying a fact differentiated from opinion, here it would seem that only black letter law is fact, but even that is quibbled.

Well, I have to question that one portion factually. I see plenty of new/news stories mentioned relating to 2A or OC. Quality is subjective, but national information and news are still flowing well. (Fewer state/local OC reports though.)

I suppose that disputing an assertion of fact here could be seen as bickering over a small point, but do facts matter? Does truth matter? Should opinions override facts? Should some opinions never be crossed?

Outside of that, I will always agreed that bickering too much is not great for the 2A cause. We should have a lot in common. However, we've always had a variety of opinions and schools of thought in this forum, and always a lot of back and forth too. Having an opinion requires tolerating other opinions, unless you're in a very like-minded circle. That has been the case here forever. Why is that same condition suddenly "tired"? I'd say start the kind of thread or add the kind of comment you'd like to see, and more power to it!

Hammer6, you are correct, as is Doug regarding the resolution of the majority OC issues [yes, even down to members finessing the letters of the law to assure understanding]

Hammer6 & Doug, et al., if you review olde OCDO threads you will find these same long winded finessed discussions which worked nuances of such important aspects such as ‘can i leave a cartridge chambered’ or ‘should put the safety on and leave hammer back on my 1911’ or ‘is a revolver or pistol better for SD purposes’ ad nauseam.

During these discussions everyone posted their unsubstantiated “opinions” based on their Pappy’s or their BLET/Military, or what a neighbour four years ago taught them. Unsubstantiated info would/could/might get someone into judicial trouble so members got savvy and wanted viable background to the information presented, not just the legalese.

Further, look at ‘new’ internet profit centers who now provide info on SD techniques, ammo, which firearm is best, etc. these didn’t exist when this forum began so OCDO provided a viable national platform for this country’s citizens to get reliable information.

Finally, OCDO was one of the first specific forums and now there has been a proliferation of ‘new’ state/national level forums, usacarry/defensivecarry/N/Swest/each firearm manufacturer forum/ad nauseam, on the internet.

A lot of these are owned by a Canadian org and have instituted strict moderator mandates, e.g. the high road does not tolerate any discussion off the preconceived established party line(s) even tho that line is might be years olde or changed by law or convention so the moderators react swiftly and unceremoniously if members challenge that line and individuals find themselves ban’d.

Perfect ~ nope; bickering ~ yep; opinionated ~ yepper; do members still post BS ~ yepper; do members still whine & get their feelings hurt when called out for insistently post BS ~ you betcha!

But except in the extreme BS threads, as Doug stated readers/members unequivocally get, for the most part, substantiated and reliable information.

I sort of don't look at threads, I don't want too.

For the longest time this place was lucky if it had 5 posts in 3 days about anything except in legislative session time.

Guess we could go back to that

If you wanted to avoid the bickering you would have to not look at any threads, it has gotten that bad. The shame of it is that the quibling is not over the substance, but personal grudges or dislike of other members, which is very juvenile. There is nobody on here that I have not disagreed with, or agreed with on occasion, but it is stupid, ignorant, and down right crazy bordering on red flag to be this obsessed with other members. Gun control fanatics could use our current threads for justification of red flag laws. Is that what we want to look like insane gun owners? Keep in mind we are not the only ones reading these forums.

Grudges are not worth the aggravation, and the damage they cause.

What a concept! Never thought of that and I am still struggling with it, paraverbal.
Don't tell me you did not look-up that word.
Example: When eye95 starts beating that dead horse, we don't always know if he is doing it out of anger, out of frustration or out of his determination in selling a false hope. He could be beating that dead horse becaue it gives him pleasure.

(y)(y)(y) Right on target as usual, WW! We should focus on what's what, not who's who. There is not one person here that I have blocked or treat differently than others. Right is right, wrong is wrong, no matter whose lips or fingers make the words.

Gun control fanatics could use our current threads for justification of red flag laws.
(n) No justification whatsoever. Having a disagreement or even a "grudge" on a forum does not constitute violent behavior or mental illness. Although we need to set a good example, FunnyTown Inc and its criminal cohorts constantly spew out grudges online, so that's a nonstarter. There is no justification (this or otherwise) for infringing the 2A, as S9 said.

Outsiders should never interfere in a family squabble. They could get hurt. eye95 and myself have spent time in each others presence. I can't speak for eye95, but I was there to deal with hoodlums.

Ha ha, lovers' quarrels too? COL, I don't even follow exactly what you're talking about or whether your "could get hurt" was directed at me or elsewhere, but either way I'm not interested and couldn't care less about such loves and hates. Pillow talk is private, and feuds are also tedious to outsiders! Lovers and family, grudges, who cares! I was replying to what was said, not to who said it or who they share their private lives with. :p

I'm to old for that, I'm talking about those outside the gun community.

Good to know, thanks! Anyway I think the forum is doing OK. Busy time of year for me so I'm more likely to just comment than start new threads, but I certainly appreciate everyone here and enjoy the conversations. For those that do have the time for new threads they can steer things in the desired direction. Take heart! (y)

This is trollish, jerk behavior. John won‘t deal with it, so I will.

I am not participating in this thread. I have deliberately avoided it. Then this jerk troll has to drag me into it.

John, this is what your inaction has wrought. Do something about this resident troll. He instigates at every turn—without provocation. He is trying to cause trouble. That is the very definition of trolling.

This is what the troll was trying to cause. Is he (are those of you who saw no problem) happy now???

John, moderate your site. Deal with trolls like color of law! Or you site will continue to die.

Oh happy days eye95, the petulant childish elementary playground name callin behaviour we have come to expect and in a thread eye95 you flatly stated you weren’t participating in...

Oh for the record eye95, do not see one iota of a problem as you yourself jump in for the flogging which gets you your martyr attention, doesn’t it eye95...

Now where did i leave my little violin to play sullen and squeaky music to accompany your whine and martyr mantra....
