Shoulder holsters?

Double Gun Shoulder Rig

I use a shoulder rig.

I carry two S&W M&P 9s each with Arrendondo Accessories extended mag plate which add 5 rounds to my 17 round capacity. And I have 4 extra 17 round magazines, two under each gun.

I took a Tactical Tailor Modular Shoulder Harness and added a left and right handed Serpa holster each with a STRIKE platform to mount to the MOLLE on the Harness. Then I added a Condor double mag pouch horizontally under each holster. I've been carrying this setup for about 2 years now.

The plus side:

I'm a bigger guy and while I do occasionally carry concealed, depending on where I go, I open carry for the most part. This rig allows me to carry 2 guns and 4 extra magazines easily and comfortably. Yes, it's "In Your Face" open carry. And that is what I'm going for. I live in the state of Arizona by the way.

The down side:

This is an expensive setup.

The Tactical Tailor Modular Shoulder Harness is $36.00
The Blackhawk Holsters and the STRIKE platform mounts ran in the neighborhood of $90 to $100 for everything.
The two Condor Double mag pouches ran $13.00 retail each, $26.00 for both.

That puts the cost of this rig at around $160.00. Yes, costly, and as I said, I've had this rig for two years. I put it together expecting that I would use it for a long time and that is the way it is looking.

In conclusion: The bottom line is that you need to find something that works for you. It took me awhile to find what worked for me and what I liked. I have a hand full of OWB holster that I occasionally use.

I'll take some pictures and post for you when I can.

My advice, find what works for you.

I may have to break down and buy a shoulder rig. I have come across a beat up S&W model 29, but the damn thing has a 8 inch barrel. Still debating buying it.

Need a vertical rig for that long of barrel :)

The gun is pitted fairly well, so I may just cut the barrel down to five, or six inches. I just can't see carrying it with a eight inch barrel. But if I buy it, and keep it at eight inches, yea I will need a vertical.

Still trying to talk myself into buying it, I have no need for it. It is just a project calling out to me. If I get it I will strip it, and do a mustard patina(antique finish). That would pretty much duplicate the finish on 19th century guns. There is no way to return it to it's original finish.

An interesting exercise with a gun holstered in a shoulder holster, or any holster but particularly other than a hip holster, is to install a laser pointer, like a bore sighting laser, and then draw and watch the muzzle sweep.

All guns are LOADED until they are not. Cover with the MUZZLE that only which would be destroyed. Keep your finger off the TRIGGER. Know your TARGET and what is beyond.

Shoulder holsters are allowed in SASS, muzzle sweep is kept to safety standards by doing the cross draw dance. I am less bothered by slight muzzle sweep than I am from morons who can't keep their finger off the trigger.

Anybody who has been in the military gets muzzle swept hundreds of times during training. Although with empty weapons, usually with safety plugs. Hell during WW2 the trainees got shot at with live ammo.

Okay, finally took a picture of my shoulder holster rig. I did take some pictures wearing it. However, the camera adds way more than 10 pounds. Not going to post those kinds of pics until I've replaced the "Keg" I have with a "6 pack".

armory express outlet

I bought the double vertical bikini holster from:

http://www.armoryexpressoutlet.com/Double-Vertical-Bikini-Shoulder-Holster_p_593.html

Very thick leather, hand made, several videos on website and YouTube.

I got it mainly to use when riding my motorcycles, I feel it is to bulky to wear CC. I wore it OC from Las Vegas to Arizona and back.

I use an Alien Gear or Cross Breed appendix holster for CC of my XDM .45's

I don't really OC very much, but plan on doing it more often.

Had the twins out this past Saturday. Love those Trijicon RMR's. I'm taking a Costa Ludus (www.costaludus.com) training class this summer and I'm excited to use the twins for the class. Should be an awesome time.
