The public has moved on. The media has moved on. I don't doubt that Maplewood will pass a ban, but the legislature isn't going to take any more or less heat due to this incident if they preempt.
If all it took was one incident that resulted in no charges or claims of laws broken to blow up the whole thing, it seems the support was pretty weak.

The City of Maplewood casts their second and deciding vote April 12th at the City Council meeting. I am going there to speak against this. I don't know of any OC person doing the same. Some say they can't speak in public, I have and I do. Some have concerns for their job, I understand. If no one speaks against, they will pass it for sure,, and they probably will. It is my guess the "media" wil be there. It's one of those kind of things. Some will probably speak if the media does not show, I understand that. If we can open carry in public, sure as heck we better be prepared to speak to defend our rights! If you do speak, dress well, be polite. They have nothing but negatives so far and getting intheir face, protesting or generally getting them PO'd will not help the cause. I've been asked by Fox 2 St. Louis to do an on camera interview. This I will NOT do. It serves no purpose and I don't care to be ambushed by soem slime reporter who just wants to distort things and put sensational material on the tube.

we are doing damage control, not more damage. I have avery 'nice " presentation i hope I can get through in the 3 minutes allowed.

The meeting is at the maplewood City hall, April 12th @ 7:30PM. 7601 Manchester Rd.

If you can make a positive infulence, please coem out and share your opinion. If you can't present something positive at least show up and be part of the crowd that supports our 2A rights. Again. I fully expect them to pass the anti-OC bill in Maplewood.

I am one of those that can't speak publicly without losing my livelihood. (which is a crying shame, isn't it?)
I agree that you would be making a mistake to speak to the same reporter/station that did the original smear story. (fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me)
The city is going to to what it is going to do. Laws that are based on near term events are usually bad laws. If they were to be convinced to table it, time could make it obvious that this ban ordinance needs to evaporate.

Do we know each other on another forum? I've talked to another, happens to be an educator who has the same problem!

I would do so, if I weren't in KC, and the gas were something less than $3.85/gallon. I wish you the absolute best of luck next week.

Some one has to stand up and speak up. A smal price to pay for the freedoms we have in which so many have given so much! If we don't fight to keep our rights they wil be lost.

Maybe car pool and split the cost.

An individual can only speak for 3 minutes at the beginning of the meeting, do not know where in their agenda the vote takes place. a long way to go if yo ulive in KC. Thi sis NOT a protest, it's an attempt to get them to vote "NO" or defer to a suggestion I'll make. I will post what I say after I say my say.

Well, that's just the first obstacle. Then I would have to take off work for the 4 hour drive. Get someplace to stay overnight. And finally, find someone to take care of my kids overnight (I'm a widower.) I really do wish I could be there, but there are just too many obstacles.

I am likely going to go ahead and speak, if they want to fire me so be it. I am growing weary of dancing about anyway.

There has been great damage done to the OC movement in Missouri... GREAT DAMAGE!
Doesn't matter if someone is "legally within their rights" when it comes to the media, or public opinion.
Keeping ones mouth shut and their eyes and ears open can be more educational and more productive then grandstanding and getting less than desireable results. Just saying!

the only damage that's been done has been amongst ourselves....which i'm sure the anti's and media is grateful for.

I think he means the Maplewood event is "We shot ourselves in the foot!", (we meaning the individual at hand) would that be correct.

no i mean by how quickly we are to turn on one another just because of disapproval of someones actions because that's not how we would have done something. the amount of chastising that has gone on here has been simply amazing....everyone and their higher than thou art attitudes.

but hey, people learn from experiences like these....if you screw up, forget being around any group of people that you could learn how to better handle something in the future, cause you'll be excommunicated.

but that's just observation. to each his own. if anyone has shot anyone in the foot it's those who have developed this elitist mindset. rock on super stars.

i'm going to say this just because i think it needs to be said. don't pm me trying to justify your rationale in hopes to get me to join your side. be a man and debate it in open forum, especially if you are going to state your negative opinion about someone behind their back based on information that is neither here nor there in regards to the issue at hand...

which is, a citizen who was legally carrying a holstered firearm in the open in a muni with no ordinances against it was arrested.

as i stated in my response to the PM i got...with a few minor changes

he no more baits law enforcement than those of us that attend "get togethers", (edit: which are not bad things). i highly doubt one person has single handedly screwed us (edit: anymore than any thug on the street that is out there committing hanus crimes with a firearm) and i'd like to know who appointed a good chunk of you as judges. instead of taking an opportunity to not only educate the public but also help educate someone who perhaps out of everything needs to be around those who handle themselves correctly in those situations you high and mighty types have isolated and excluded that person (edit: way to eliminate future problems such as this from an individual)....failure to help educate those who would (edit: try to actively on their own) support 2a is just as bad as not trying to educate those who don't understand it.

the comment about (edit: [remove about, add "towards"]) leos made in the cell are neither here nor there and have no bearing on the matter at hand which was that a ciitizen was legally carrying a holstered fire arm in the open in a municipality that had no ordinances against it (edit: as it happened after the fact and while were not the best ways to vent and poorly were poorly choices to do so, still doesn't negate the fact that law enforcement should have handled the situation differently by education etc)

you can try to think of every excuse you want and nit pick all you want, but when it comes down to it, there aren't that many of people in this state and when the time comes, you'll need everyone you can get...but if you want to pick and choose who 2a applies to (edit: and will band together for when an incident occurs), that's your choice...but don't pm me and try to justify your reasonings for failing to help a fellow 2a person handle himself correctly just because of ones past....and btw, his past run ins with law enforcement have no bearing on 2a as well...so that argument is null and void.

can you really afford to fight the crusade on 2 fronts...let alone externally and internally? i would think that the energy would be better spent towards unity amongst ourselves than isolating one another, and educating the public.....remember, the public is watching, and when they see everyone turn on each other for whatever reason, they silently chuckle to themselves while thinking of you in a dark alley alone without protection....but to each his own and let freedom ring.

The more we bicker and chide, the more we divide.

We do not have to be in perfect harmony to sing in the choir. Sometimes it is enough to stand silently beside a brother and let things settle down a bit.

You hit a small bump in the road. You didn't lose the wheel. Hope you all pick yourselves up and regroup - the world did not end yesterday. :D

Mr Darrow's had two issues that made this worse than it actually is/was. 1. He is a high profile me vs police person. The debate over how or why is moot, no one can argue he is high profile. 2. He unfortunate circumstances had horrible timing, folks were working with legislators trying to garner support for the speeches for the rally day.

No matter whether the police had RAS or not, he was not engaged in criminal activity, he had a bogus traffic warrant which either way would make no difference in the grand scheme, most of us have had a speeding ticket, he just fought it and appealed it and the warrant was spit out, who has never had a speeding ticket?

The news is its usual grandeur had a slow day, it hit the scanner, they wanted to run with it, got busy, dug into it a bit more, had another slow day and used it as an "exclusive" to try and ramp up ratings and negative sells better than others. All of the legislators saw it or heard about it and the speeches were pulled back so they would not get hammered by the press on this particular issue vs bill 841.

This event most certainly did play a role, there is no doubt what so ever. It was however not his fault or intent, just crappy timing.

They forget that they are on a publicly accessible forum - just like we do sometimes.

I never forget. It is my hope that my comments are read by ALL on every side of the issue. And anyone who actually threatens someone with physical harm on one of these forums, civilian or LEO, is just plain stupid...

Thanks for clarifying.

If there is something wrong with OC, then it needs to be discussed openly. If there is going to be some places that, while legal to OC, one shouldn't, then let's see the listing of where and why not. It is easy to sit back and Monday morning Quarterback the events as they happen.
