This got me thinking: what do we do for scriptures? If we want to be taken seriously (
), and get to drink in dry counties without any trouble, we need some doctrine. Major recognized religions have doctrine, be it a characteristic book or set of teachings, so people will wonder what ours is.
For instance, the
Hindu family of religions have certain emphasized scriptures, like the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Mahabharata, the Brahmana, etc. The
Jewish faith has the Tanakh (made up of most of the books of what Christians know as the Old Testament),
Christianity revolves around the Bible,
Islam has the Quran,
Mormons have the Book of Mormon,
Atheists have Darwin's
On the Origin of Species, and the
Jedi Church has the original Star Wars trilogy digitally remastered in High-Def on Blu-Ray with the extended director's cut and deleted scenes. :dude:
I would imagine that books on basic firearms safety, as well as marksmanship and basic reloading are in order, but what would you all say to the U.S. Constitution and a book by Jeff Cooper? And do we need to narrow it down to just the one, or should we compile excerpts from his various books?
