Wrong, no the government does not rule by majority rule and have authority over an individual! The rule of law is what governs an individual, natural rights govern an individual. Majority law is overturned by the courts when it exceeds natural and fundamental rights.

well head on over to Zimbabwe and tell me how those "natural rights" are working out. Head over to Somalia, and tell me how many "fundemental rights" they have this week, how about communist china? or even France? Doesn't sound like Divine planning to me...

The very fact that the majority of humans living today do not have these rights should be a clue to the "fundemental rights" crowd that there is no such thing. Rights are not inalieable, no one was just "given" rights, rights are something people TOOK or that someone else TOOK for you and you must MAINTAIN god isn't coming to bail us out if we lose our rights. tell me how often "fundemental rights" appears in the constitution? ZIP ZERO, NADA.

Either you fight for your rights, have someone else fight for them for you, or they will be taken from you.

one last homework assignment, google "Japanese Americans 1942" and then tell me all about your frickin' natural rights. obviously "the greatest generation" had no problem rounding up american citizens and holding them without trial, without charges, no right to a lawyer, and had their property taken by force with no compensation. you ever visit pike place market? in 1941 70% of the stores at Pike Place were owned by japanese americans? are they now? no, why? oh becuase their "natural rights" were not as useful as a roll of TP when worst came to worst.

so name me ONE group of people who had "rights" by the basis of existing without having to fight for them? name one... they don't exist, in my sutdies of history I haven't found one group of people who had rights by nature of existing, they always came together, said "enough is enough" and TOOK THEIR RIGHTS (often violently) from their oppressors. God, Nature, the Easter bunny, or John Locke didn't amount to a hill of beans when it came to taking them

The government in the end rules for the majority, or in some cases, a minority big, bad, and violent enough to keep control over the majority. governments only give you rights if they feel it's the easier path to take. to claim that the courts will uphold your rights all the time is ludicrous, look up Jose Padilla if you don't believe me. YOU are responsible for your rights, you and the public at large, and if the majority of the public won't stand up for your rights, you WILL lose them. there is no way reading back through history you can conclude otherwise. Even in the bible Essau sold his rights for a bowl of porridge. having rights is not a given, it's not "god given" it's not "easy" having rights brings with them serious responsibility, including keeping them. to claim your rights are fundemental is an insult to thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of people who died so you can have them. there is nothing fundemental about it.

RANT MODE OFF

let the hate mail pour in...

If you are correct or at least think you are correct why would you expect the hate mail to pour in?

Because saying what I think is so evidentally true is generally not popular.

I don't believe in the concept of natural rights, for several reasons, but I outlined the whole thing above.

rights are things we the people take for ourselves, no one deserves them by nature of existing, and it's obvious with that philosophy we're losing the rights previously fought for. we have a society full of Essau's, who will give up their "birthright" for a bowl of lentil stew when they feel just a little hungry.

and I'm not optimistic about how the country is heading.

we have republicans who are beginning to act scary, passing laws eliminating due process and allowing indefinite detentions, and some who seemingly think we need to impose religious law on the masses

and of course democrats who think you should only have rights if you agree with them and generally dislike the RKBA.

The sad thing is, I love my country, I love the United States, and I even enjoy some of the stuff I disagree with, but I love living in this society with freedom and rule of law. but the fact is, the constitution is being watered down "for the public good" so you basically get two menu options for which set of rights in more important, becuase no one supports them all, and those few who do are convinced they're owed the very "natural rights" that are being taken away right now.

and I expect to be unpopular for saying this.

Eric you are a defeatist, most here do not have time for that dogma. I detest defeatists because they have lost the race before they stepped into the starting blocks they are done before they start. I hope your chains are comfortable you are carrying quite the load of them.

you know I'm sure we'll discuss this again sometime in the future in the social lounge or maybe in person. in the meantime, to try and return the thread...

how's your whatcom 2A rally going?

Actually thinking of another time, not so close to so many other events. We are in discussion.

Wrong, no the government does not rule by majority rule and have authority over an individual! The rule of law is what governs an individual, natural rights govern an individual. Majority law is overturned by the courts when it exceeds natural and fundamental rights.

+1 When the courts work properly, and why we should have a fully informed jury and jury nullification.

Open a social lounge thread, I will debunk this line of thinking again.....but will leave you with this thought, saying the majority has the right to......is the same as saying minorities have no rights.

Have fun on Feb 8th folks, I have made many trips to Oly this week and it does not look like it is in the cards for me on the 8th. Being a work day and being swamped and behind schedule and low on funds all contributing to this.

Well,,,

While I bump this thread to the top...
I want to thank all those so willing to argue about anything and everything else to derail this thread,,,
it seems to me that many of you are quite dickish..
I hope you come to the capital in the morning,
petition our leaders for redress of our grevences,
and generally show the forces that be that we are sick and tired of the same old BS...

I will not be attending. Partly because I think we are beyond the help of "protests" and it's time to step up the game. But mostly because I have to work all day. Nothing would tickle me more than walking around the Capital park armed to the teeth but customers want their guns too. Good luck all and have fun. But most of all be safe.

If anyone would like to grab breakfast or coffee with me over at the Spar before the meet, I'll be there in about 15 minutes.

So I got interviewed by King5 while at the rally. The reporter said that it would be on the news at 5. Hopefully I don't come off sounding like a schmuck!

you know what I forgot to do? I forgot to pay Donna Bezon a visit at the capitol building.

see if she or sherry would be more willing to back up their claims when someone comes in person to question them.....

oh never mind... But I did visit the offices for both my reps and left notes with their legislative assistants.
