GREAT!!! The more the merrier. See you there.

Welcome to OCDO. If you would please update your location info to reflect Michigan. Do this by clicking my account in the upper right next to search. Remember you MUST choose your country first in order to get the state selection box. We are trying to keep an accurate count of all of our Michigan brothers and sisters, thanks

I am going to do my best to remember this.... I think it might fall on a drill weekend in battle creek with the Marine Corps.... and after giving me 3 onths off they won't look to kindly on my skipping out. But if I can make it I will bring paper plates and plastic flatware. I would love to be there!!!

I hope i can make it... this is a great idea... i think i might have to go to a wedding though... i'll check with the "boss" and get back with you.

Welcome to OCDO Maeq. Ask that the wedding be re-scheduled, the Warren picnic will happen only once this year. :)

Any chance of someone with proper wording skills to put together a little press release statement to be sent to local media, similiar to the Hastings one for THIS event?

Ok, here's my first draft. Please feel free to modify:

[align=center]Press Release – For Immediate Distribution[/align]

Citizens affiliated through OpenCarry.org have scheduled an informal social gathering and picnic at Veterans Memorial Park in Warren, MI on August 16[suP]th[/suP], 2008 at 1pm. All law-abiding and responsible members of the public and media are warmly invited to attend.

Many attendees will be lawfully open carrying their handguns, and lawful open carry is generally encouraged for this informal gathering. Open carry of a firearm is generally legal in Michigan for anyone 18 years and older with their legally owned firearm, without any permit required. However, individuals should review Michigan state law to determine if they are in legal possession of a firearm before openly carrying such firearm.

While this gathering is informal, it is important to note that well-mannered behavior and the wear of ordinary clothing that fits in well with the general public (not paramilitary-type clothing) is expected.

Please contact [insert contact name and contact info] for further information.

Minus the obvious changes (signature/contact info) i like it. Would like to have others chime in and suggest changes and ideas before submission.

May I suggest this addition:

lawful open carry is generally encouraged, but not requiredfor this informal gathering.

edit for credit: I have to give credit for this suggestion to Mike. He suggested this to me on the poster I made for this event. I was possibly implying carrying was required to attend.

"Generally legal", somewhat implies a gray area, IMO. I think "...is legal...." would be more appropriate.

Also,"legally owned firearm" is somewhat vague to the general public.Use something like: registered firearm or safety inspected firearm.

Ha Ha It's all good i got the green light and am planning on attending... what else do we need to be brought?
From what i can see looks like we got all the bases covered. IF you would like to bring a dish......cole slaw, cookies, cake, watermelon (and a way to cut it lol), anything picnicy comes to mind. We are bringing pepsi and bottled water (along with our food items) not everyone likes pepsi. So maybe a different soda option?

IF not that is fine too. A dish is NOT required to attend.

Hi, Dan here, author of the press release rough draft.

I'll post a second draft this evening, incorporating allthe sensible suggestions that came in and are to come.

This second draft will be open to amendment as well. I just want to keep on top of the suggestions and keep the draft as current as possible.

Who's the leader here who will make the "executive decision" on when the draft is finished, who to put in for the contact and signature lines, and get it issued to the media?
