Re: NV OC - how did it go?

lol I do keep track and between the wife and I, over $3200 a year just at DH! You did hear me say addict, right. :shocker:

I'm quite positive I've spent a LOT more than that. I tip VERY well for people that respect my 2a rights. My bartenders have given me birthday/x mas cards, and told GAMING customers to gtfo if they were uncomfortable with me carrying.

Wowsa indeed! You're talking gaming too though, right? I don't gamble. Unless you mean with my liver. :p

I buy $1600 gift cards every 5 months. Man that just sounds bad. I don't give them to anyone.

TBG, I could use a DD.....?

No I actually don't game at all. I've spent maybe a total of 200 dollars total in the past 7 years living here. I just eat out often and I like to have a beer or two when I eat. And like I said, I tip VERY well.

Lucky's - NW Vegas

Just got back from oc'ing my S&W 5906 at Lucky's in the NW at Cimmaron and Farm. Awesome! Talked to the proprietor of the restaurant, Walter. Told him Vegaspassat sent me. He is MORE than cool with us doing an open carry get-together there. The pizza is awesome! And they have happy hour everyday 12-7. Oh yea!

So guys, howabout it? I can do the 7th and the 28th of Sept. Nothing again until Oct. Of course we could just do a Sunday lunch kinda thing in which case we'll all probably have more availability. Feedback?

Walter said about open carry, "I have no problem with it. Tell 'em to come on. They are definitely welcomed here."

For those that don't know the area, this is up the 95 N towards Indian Springs. But you exit Buffalo or Durango before you get outta town. Close to Floyd Lamb / Tule Springs.

Gun store misinformation

I was in Spurlock's this evening to see if they had any IMR-3031 (gunpowder), they didn't, as usual.

I got into a discussion with a customer and a couple of store employees regarding laws in Henderson. I told the customer that OC in Henderson city buildings including the court house was perfectly legal and so were the parks. Judging by his reaction the customer didn't believe me I would guess. At least he indicated surprise. I gave him a brief synopsis of the battle over these issues. I still don’t think he bought it.

We also discussed registration and I told him under Henderson law there was no requirement to register with the county and that the only Henderson ordinance was from 1954 and had never been enforced. The ordinance said that citizens of Henderson were to register with the Henderson Chief of police and there is no authority given for him to substitute the Clark County program. That the blue card only applied to the unincorporated areas of the county. The store employee said it was a law that they had to register the handguns they sold under blue card. I asked them why then they didn’t have to abide by the county 72 hour wait for handguns. The one employee turned red and clammed up. The other said it was a Henderson law. I again told him that the only law states that I as a resident of Henderson must register with the Henderson Chief of Police. That there was no authorization for him to delegate that authority to the Sheriff. As there is no procedure in place to register with the Chief of Police there was then no obligation to do so.

I went on to explain to them that with the patchwork of laws in the county, and how they were worded, that I as a citizen of Henderson could only be legally arrested for an unregistered handgun while in the unincorporated areas of the county. That Las Vegas has the only legal law by an incorporated city that requires one to register with the Sheriff. It does not apply to non-residents of Las Vegas as the wording clearly requires that “citizens of Las Vegas” must register with the Sheriff. They didn’t believe it.

This discussion proved again to me that you cannot reason with people who have no desire to be reasonable. In this case reasonable meaning open minded. You can apply the old saying, “my mind’s made up, don’t confuse me with the facts.”

I tried.

I'd be surprised if he remembered who you were talking about if you mentioned my screen name to him. If I recall, he is the really nice black guy from California. He and Joe are partners in the venture.

I would not be available on the 7th, but I should be able to make it on the 14th. Let's get another thread started so we can get a head count. Once that happens I'll post on the face book page and maybe someone can post on nv shooters?

I get that alot - some overzealous employee following me around. I don't know the sense they see in following someone that is armed, but yep, pretty typical. I think of it as, special treatment. Lol

Went to India Palace restaurant over at Twain Ave. Got a few stares from the servers and was asked if I was a cop. I simply told them "no, just a law abiding citizen, and you can do it just as well!" One server made a comment like being able to go outside the restaurant and fire a few rounds, I said I could but it would be irresponsible...and he replied, "in India, you can!"

After that I went back to eating with the family. Great massala and tandoori!

It boggles my mind. On the other hand the gentleman may simply of been a customer interested in the same authors as I.

Could have been. I try to remind myself to treat a situation like that as "no situation". I think that if I want others to accept oc as normal, then the best thing I can do is act as if, "What? What's all the attention for" and teach by example that it truly is normal...or should be. Disarming oneself was, and should be again, considered abnormal.

Hmm, well - suggest that it is better to listen to your instincts. When your spidey senses tingle, it might be better to not suppress them. Someone shadowing me, paying too much attention is going to get my attention. Giving in to bad manners, poor treatment is not part of normalizing OC.

Ask yourself if the employee would have been so interested in you if you had been CCing. Reminds me of the old Wal-Mart question, "Excuse me sir, may I check your bag?" My typical response was, "Are you accusing me of shoplifting."

See this little different. Would have gone to the manager and asked if their employee thought I was shoplifting or do they just embarrass and intimidate all of their customers that way. Respect is a two way street - that is normally so.

Grapeshot,

I think you misunderstood me. I was saying to act as if though what you are doing (open carrying) is completely normal. Not to be rude, but to just simply ignore the other persons nervousness, not bring focus on it therefore not bringing notice upon yourself.

It reminds me of when, for instance, you have a torn or ripped crotch and you cannot change clothes. If anyone notices, you typically just smile and move on thus not bringing any MORE attention upon yourself nor building upon any brought upon you by others.

Did not mean to make it appear that I was criticizing you personally - was just expanding the line of thought.

Laughlin concert - Nugent

I'm going to the Ted Nugent concert in Laughlin tomorrow night. I'm debating trying to oc at the concert. Thoughts?

I usually don't oc in Laughlin because of all the casinos you walk through constantly and I haven't wanted to be told to leave where I'll then have to walk all the way back to my hotel to put my gun away. But given this is The MotorCity Madman....hmmmm, I wonder..... It's at Edgewater and I can't find any mention of gun rules on their site.
