You should have reversed it and taken his wallet!

Not so, even in jest this is poor advice.

Be aware that this is a highly read forum by the media, politicians and the antis - any of which would love to quote your post out of context, even if intended as sarcasm.

That and you are suggesting an illegal act in violation of OCDO rules.

I probably would have laughed hysterically while telling him he brought a knife to a gunfight.
A trained person could clear 15-20ft faster than you could draw/aim/fire.
Glad your OK, BUT. This guy should have got a ride in a cop car. His action was a felony and should go to jail for it. You can draw and not shot, have him get to the ground and call 911. Now if he runs away I wouldn't give chase.
I might not have let it go without some well placed defensive shots. It carry to protect me and my family from the ugly stuff that can happen. Although you are fine what about his next victim. He WILL do this again. Next time he might not give the person a chance.

While I do agree with you, there are a ton of others in this neighborhood just like him. Break-ins in apartments around me are an almost every other day occurrence and the cops are here just about every day. They actually just left about half an hour ago from a break in right below me. It took the cops about 45 minutes to show up for this one. They care less and less about this place lol. I'm used to being in environments where people want to kill you or hurt you, and the way this guy handled himself and acted, I didn't believe I was in danger. Looking back on it, yes I could've drew on him and waited for the cops to show up. But at the time, I wasn't thinking like that, I was just going off of training. Which dictates the only time you aim a weapon at someone is if you're going to pull the trigger. If he's stupid enough to try the same thing with me again, he won't get a third chance.

This was a pull the trigger event... Next time he will have a gun... and he knows what you drive/ride and where you live. That is scary all by its self.

kid with cape

i have had some interesting encounters at MickyD's. i can't stand the food but i take my GKs there quite a bit, because they love the indoor playground (a/c in summer and heated in winter). today i had to take my 7 year old grand daughter to cheer-leading. it was cold and wet. so afterward i took her and her 2 year old brother. there were a lot of kids there including a few of her cheer buddies. i got a few looks, but no one seemed upset by me OCing.

the main point was there was this one kid, looked to be about 4 or 5. he had on a red and yellow cape, PJ's and rubber boots. i swear he looked just like the kid from "Big Daddy". turned out his grandmother was a teacher at my GD's school. he first got excited when he seen my side arm at the counter, but his GM hushed him. in the play ground area we sat with others from the school. while my GKs were playing. he came over and acted the super hero. he just had to ask "why i had a gun" and i said it was because i was looking out for bad guys , so they would not hurt anyone. he smiled and said "ooh" like it made perfect sense to him. i hope i made a good impression on them so they would not be afraid in the future.

even got in a conversation with some of the girls about their dads and brothers had gone deer hunting. seemed like a lot of good experiences.

Yesterday I had a nice uneventful day - my travels brought me to Discount Tire, Great Clips, Harris Teeter, Sam's Club & then Wal-Mart.

Haven't been OC'ing nearly as much as I used to following a particularly unpleasant experience involving the High Point PD harassing & threatening me at Food Lion back in April.

Carry a recorder and educate, educate - follow through as appropriate.

CDT COX, sorry to see your jeep got wrecked, but glad to hear you're ok. Btw is that a NC State logo I see at the top center of your windshield? Go Wolfpack!

OC'd at Circle K last night. While I was getting a hotdog, a group of about ten kids ages 11-15 ish walked in past me toward the doughnuts. Even though I was standing strong side toward them not one of them or the adult with them seemed to notice.

Earlier today at Walgreens, I was getting a prescription refilled and there was a problem with the credit card on file. I called my father who has asked me not to carry while I'm out in public with him. I usually honor his request but was already in the store with my S&W. He came down to get the problem sorted out and give them a different card number. Maybe after seeing that nobody ran for the hills as we walked thru the store on our way back to the parking lot he'll be more comfortable with it in the future.

Welcome to OCDO diablos30.

Recommend that you become quite familiar with the laws in NC and get all of the training time you can afford. A good digital recorder can be your best friend too.

thanks for the welcome. from the reading i've done on here and the state website, the same rules apply whether you openly carry or conceal (although the wording allows open carry in banks that aren't posted??).

please correct me if im wrong, also what recorder are you guys using.

Diablos30 question

Open carry in financial institutions (banks, credit unions, etc.) is legal.
I use an Olympus VN7000 from WalMart. It's capable of 1200 hrs recording into 4 separate files. I turn it on, lock the controls, put it in my shirt pocket and forget it until I'm done. Then delete everything and be ready for the next day.

RUGER, sorry you had such a bad experience, have you shared it on here?

welcome DIABLOS30. i am always carrying when i go to the banks (in NC and VA). do make sure that your bank is not posted, and if it is, move asap. also, i would like to add, look into joining GRNC.org

This http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f177/jeep-took-nap-wreckage-pics-1263762/ happened last saturday, since there has been talks on how to carry while driving I figured I'd share my experience. I'm glad I had it holstered when this happened. When I climbed out, the people that stopped to help didnt seem to care at all that I had it.

hope everything is getting better CDT COX

OC'd in Cary yesterday and the sky is still in place. We were down near the crossroads mall area - specifically JoAnn's fabrics and then at the Golden Corral.
