Morrow County Fair Board (Mt. Gilead) thinks I am a "radical troublemaker"

It was Rogers' comment, not the sheriff's.

The sheriff seem to respect our rights. Let's not accidentally impugn his character.
Evidently I have a reading comprehension problem! <sigh>

Thanks for the catch. I've deleted my comment.

Nothing really left for me to post...
Did you ever get a response back from Chief Hill? It seems various people in positions of power, like his underling Vartorella, and the Fair Board's Mr. Rogers (Rodgers?) need to be exposed for misusing their authority/positions and otherwise straightened out.

Ah, BB62. You know me so well!

No contact and I already have a public records request in to them, cc:'ed to their legal department.

If no response by Friday, I may just stop by since they're on the east side of Columbus.

Mr. Rogers says he did not contact Vartorella. I'm interested to see who did.

My email response to Dan Rogers' public records reply:

Dan-

I was among those open carriers at the fair yesterday. We even had one
gentleman up from Cincinnati!

We did look for you and the Sheriff. I wanted to thank you personally for
correcting the signage issue.

You can note that, even without signage on the buildings, we chose not to
enter any other than the open-air animal barns. Those are routinely
considered 'shelters'. I won't even bring up the fact that the required
signage ONLY applies to concealed license holders and not to open carriers.
:)

We eventually caught up with Sheriff Brennenman and had a pleasant chat.

I hope you choose to address the following issue with your county
prosecutor:

The state provides representation for political subdivisions of the state.

The Morrow County Agricultural Society IS a political subdivision of the
state.

All county prosecutors represent the state.

The county prosecutor must provide representation for a political
subdivision of the state located within in their county.

This means that the Morrow county prosecutor must provide representation for
the Morrow County Agricultural Society.

If he does not agree, you should ask the prosecutor to get an opinion from
the Ohio Attorney General. If he chooses not to do so, as the president of
the Agricultural Society, you may request such an opinion yourself.

Take care!

And his reply:

The Sheriff and I had a conversation about the whole issue and things may
change in our state, seems like the Sheriff's Association may be changing
their position on a lot of the postings currently up on public property. My
son lives in St Louis but the problem is traveling through IL. Their gun
laws are a big problem even if you have your weapon in a lock box.

Keep pushing for change I joined the NRA a few years ago and enjoy my
weapons that I have and I don't want those like Obama on the far left making
decisions the effect our freedoms.

Thanks again for coming and I was glad to help get things squared away.
Tell Brian I probably overreacted when we first talked and it was nothing
personal. Just I have been getting it from all sides these days. Just five
more years and I can focus on my grandkids.

Thanks again
Dan

I liked the part where MWSY sang the "wonderful day in the neighborhood" song for the sheriff and right in the middle of it the sheriff said "Where's your sweater?"

Brian D.! I forgot you were there! I'm sure I was referring to someone else. :D

If Mr. Rogers is reading this, yes, I admit it...I have this obsessive urge to break into a song about a neighborhood every time I say "Mr. Rogers". I've been forcing myself to refer to you as "Dan Rogers" so I wouldn't be offending you every 5 minutes. :p

Another day goes by without hearing from the Oh. Dept. of Ag. folks. My money is split between the sheriff and the prosecutor.

Open carry in the fair buildings are legally permissible.

On May 1, 2012 the attorney for Vandalia, Ohio (Gerald McDonald) issued a letter to police chief Douglas Knight discussing issues relating to the open carrying and the concealed carrying of handguns. As to open carry attorney McDonald stated in part:

This is why the ORC only points to five places that carrying open or concealed is prohibited. Those are a jail, courthouse or used as a courthouse, school, state run mental hospital and bar (unless you have a CCW).

I may just use this letter at the Stark County Fair. Thanks, COL...

Also, in response to the earlier comment about Morrow being quick with CHLs... they were doing CHL applications AT THE FAIR, IN THE SHERIFF'S TENT! I thought that was kind of cool...

Oh, Eye95, where's the pictures you said you were going to post??? :p
