A cop is supposed to get right up on criminals, make arrests, etc. An OCer has no obligation to do any of that. Criminals hate cops, and a crazy one WILL target a lone cop, or even 4 of them sitting in a coffeehouse. Criminals probably get a brain freeze when they see an OCer, which makes many of them think WTF and then either leave or cease pursuing anything criminal they were planning just before.
When people see an OCer, they typically do not think ,"Oh hey look a citizen." Through all my interactions with the public, there's more people who ask if I'm a cop or a <insert government profession here>. I'm probably one of the individuals who do socialize on a larger scale with the general public, passersby, etc, I've one of those faces apparently which say "Oh Hai der!"
Do I have to reiterate my experiences in Pittsburgh? Even when I don't wear fatigues or any tactical related clothing of sorts, I get "FUUCKING COP!", "PIG!", "OINK OINK", "WANT A DOUGHNUT?" among other statements shouted behind my back.
Would a criminal come up and grab your gun... maybe in Philly or a bad part of any city.
I think that is just your fault for looking like a LEO.
If a $60 USD holster is crap, then my snap-retention $20 USD holster must be incredibly crappy.
As for training vs practice, training is the act of giving/receiving instruction, while practice is using the knowledge and skills one has over and over in order to improve. So, to put these into context, consider yourself trained on the true meaning of these two words, and be sure to practice their proper usage often!
Cops need high levels of retention; civilians don't.
Most citizens do not open carry
Most citizens do not open carry, what is wrong with your brain. Open carriers need to be using high level retention holsters.
Also to your unknowing example, since you must not have be from the east coast or california, let's see how well you're doing when some thug takes a cheap shot from behind you.

Your response is both uncalled for and inane. The percentage of citizens who open carry is irrelevant to the topic and immaterial to how they carry.

Gunslinger...Saw you rcomments before removed and agree 100%...I too grew up in Chicago and have seen more thugs in my life than this clown could have hoped to.
You know what they say, opinions are like a$$holes...everyone's got one.
Actually if someone makes the decision to open carry, they should do it with the holster they feel the most comfortable with. I'm a civilian, but I have 5 years military police behind me. I've been in every type of situation you can think of, and I don't feel like I need a high retention level.
And some people are one...
Just makes me wonder how lowly free citizens with no formal training supplemented by expensive equipment and the approval of the self anointed knower-of-all-things manage to survive.
