This is not a rally. It is simply a barbecue, a get-together between friends with a common interest.

Thanks,

Hey guys, just learned that we're going to have a lot of protesters. Remember that this is low-key and that we are there for a family event. This is NOT a rally or anything like that. Also lets not make this into a shouting match. Lets just ignore them and enjoy the beautiful day and good friends! :)
So you are having a picnic and they are having a demonstration - wonder if they have a permit and if so for what area?

Well, they said that "banners, signs and NOISE-MAKERS are highly encouraged." So that should be interesting... they said that they are going to have this little demonstration across the street from us. I'm interested exactly where this across the street is?

here is a link to Maine's Disorderly Conduct Statute. It sounds like they may violate it. http://www.mainelegislature.org/legis/statutes/17-A/title17-Asec501-A.html
Now why did you go and post that?

Having let the kitty out of the bag, I guess we can discuss openly letting the local LE know of this potential, possibly illegal activity - Yes?

Those against the 1st & 2nd Amend. still tend to lose control even in the simplest of circumstances - its their hallmark. I'm having a giggle imagining them with new jewelry.

My plan is to simply ignore any protestors. If they get load and try and goad us on or anything of that nature, I will approach the police officers who I'm sure will be present, I will show them the statute, and ask that the offenders be removed. If the police don't do anything about them, then I'll just continue to ignore them, but I will not give them ammo to use against us. I will not engage them directly and I hope the rest of those in attendance take the same stance. If we are peaceable and don't get into a shouting match with them, then they will look like the aggressors and we will be the victims.

Maine's Constitution, Article one section 16 states, "Every citizen has a right to keep and bear arms and this right shall never be questioned."

There are those that do not grasp that fundamental principle.

Those that oppose the Maine Constitution have no argument except for their imagined fears - sad. Reality, facts and truth are lost on them

This is a critical requirement for all who plan to make an appearance. You may or may not know that DanSkolnik is a rabble rouser Councilor on thePublic Safety Comittee. He is the guy who obstructed the local police when the prospect of less-lethal (say 'Tazer') compliance methods became a viable alternative for management of out of control individuals. Tried to declare that the Maine Police Academy Standards were in some way unacceprtable for Portland cops. Thought that LE needed to answer to him instead of the Chief LEO.He is getting airtime on 560 AM slamming all manner of IIacarry and ownership. He is organizing a 'counter demonstration' for Sunday afternoon the 25th. People must not give him any creedance whatsoever. He is to be ignored. Folks must not be baited by him and his crew.

Maybe pitch a big ol' blue tarp, lay out some chairs & a table. Sling the 870 and hang out. Have a picnic.

I'm thinkin' some ribs will be nice for quiet Sunday afternoon. Maybe some potato salad. A nice tall, cool Moxie. Top off with a fudge brownie. Yeah, baby! That's what I'm talkin' about.

Good thing this is going to be his last term on the city council. I was looking at running for city council this year and was encouraged by other people within the system and told that everybody on the council has a real distaste for him. So he wont be around much longer.

He doesn't really seem to know what's going on? I've been reading his press releases and every time I read them I'm like "what? That's not even close to being right? Facts? Umm? Is this just your opinion, where'd you come up with that?"

Only properly holstered hand guns PLEASE.

There is even an OCDO rule/statement regarding long guns - its there for a reason.

No pushing the limits, no in-your-face approach. Just low key, legal carry by honest citizens enjoying the companionship of friends.

"Moxie" is a little used term meaning soft drink - right?

Moxie IS a soft drink. One of the oldest ones out there, and Maine's official soda.
