Individuals on Social Security are freeloaders?--that's part of the 47% he is speaking about, the elderly, which, last I checked, vote Republican. Romney keeps playing the election this way, Obama will glide into office.

The stats are of people who reported income, Social Security recipients do pay taxes if they receive benefits over their contributions. Social Security is not income it is insurance. The stats do not even take into account those who file no income tax return. His remarks were exact, he did not say that all 47% were voting for Obama. What he did say paraphrasing was that hard line Obama voters were not worth wasting time on, and many of those were not paying taxes, or receiving benefits. This is backed up by the top welfare states voting heavily democratic. California and New York the top two.

It is funny that no outcry has been made by Obama's continued dissing the wealthy class. Does he not represent them? Is he so stupid to not realize the top 10% pay over 50% of income taxes, the top 40% pay 89% of income taxes. Add on top of that these people pay billions to Hospitals wings and equipment, studies that save lives. The rich have been providing and lowering the cost of health care to the poor and indigent, they have funded AIDS research and probably responsible for the developments that have saved or extended lives. They provide funding for plastic surgery for disfigured youth. The list of what the wealthy provide is endless, and Obama has done nothing but diss them, he claims he is not their president.

Obama is a hypocrite.

I'm not remotely interested in defending Mitt Romney. He's as much of an inexcusable ****** bag as Barack Obama.

Having said that, anyone with income on which they don't pay taxes is a free-loader. Period. I don't care who they are, I don't care what laws enable it. Our non-Medicare, non-Social Security tax system today is fundamentally predicated on income taxes, so anyone not paying those income taxes is a free-loader, whether they're legally a free-loader or not. Take the emotional "What about granny and gunny?" crap and shove it in your pie hole.

Now. It is also true that income-based taxation is a horrible system, and we should replace that model. There are several viable methods, the details of which are irrelevant.

However, until we switch to a better taxation model, if you don't pay income taxes on income, you're a free-loader. End of discussion.

Preemptive edit for the simple-minded: If you have no income, obviously you shouldn't be paying income taxes. Duh. However, such a situation highlights one of the reasons income-based taxation is such a crappy model in the first place, which is that those without income end up receiving government "services" without paying for them, which then makes them free-loaders anyway. Duh.

That's a flat % tax, which is unfair. If you're required to pay a percentage of your "income" then you need to disclose that income to government(like we do now) and I see that as an unacceptable invasion of privacy. The only tax that would be fair would be a flat AMOUNT. Everyone pays $1000.00... EVERYONE.

Actually a flat dollar amount is the opposite of "fair". Take your $1,000.00 example: If you only make $20,000 a year that's 5% of your income, but when your income is expressed in millions, that thousand dollars is a rounding error. Even though I support it, a sales tax is regressive as well. Families with lower income tend to have less discretionary income. You're taxing them on money that they have no choice but to spend. There's ways around that with a consumption tax, but not with your "flat amount" example.

Taxing should be left to the states, and the federal government collect it's share for limited government from the states. The federal government should increase import taxes, this was how the early government got it's revenue. This would encourage moving business back to this country, and pay down the dept. Nixon put a 10% import increase during the economy problems at that time, I think in our situation we need 15% import tax.

The amount of police has gotten ridicules, we do not need dog poop police, actually we do not need the DEA, BATFE, or even IRS police. Without federal income tax there is no need for the IRS. The responsibility for public safety is with the public. Let the public have the tools to defend themselves, and have only enough police to investigate, and run the courts. FBI should only investigate federal crimes, let the states take care of state laws. Let colleges and universities run on their own, quit pushing college. There is nothing wrong with education, but bankrupting the country to pay kids to party is getting disgusting. Not everybody needs to or should go to college, especially those that see it as an excuse to get falling down drunk every opportunity. Why should the tax payer payed for that. If I have to pay for it, I want standards put in place to protect my investment. Change the structure of welfare to encourage work, a person actually ends up with more money in their pocket the more money they earn, until they reach the point they do not need it.

If Americans are all to be treated equally, then everyone should pay equal taxes. Either the same dollar amount or the same percentage.
